The problem with graphene are the firmwares made by google. Those we can't change, or are very hard to change.
Thanks for the great guide! Here are some additions you could make: - Sensors, network, scoped storage and scoped contacts permissions are unique to GrapheneOS, so it would make sense to mention them briefly. - Your IMEI is exposed to Google during e-SIM provisioning. The e-SIM must be installed from the owner profile. After installation, you can delete Google Play Services again. - For system-wide ad-blocking, AdGuard DNS can be used by setting `dns.adguard-dns.com` as the Private DNS domain.

A nice one. For the eSim it would be good to install the sandboxed google services into another profile

I dont want it in my main profile ๐Ÿ˜ƒ But tbh I dont use eSims as I have a NoKYC sim card
No man, im trying the web installer and terminalโ€ฆ are you using popOS?
yeah, its working fine with a windows pc too (my Pixel 7) but now i canโ€˜t flash my pixel 6a with my new linux device ๐Ÿ˜…
Mine are made offline onto USB/SD. I've only ever actually recovered once to test it out and it worked flawlessly. What did you find that was broken?
Never tried that, but have heard similar unsuccessful stories with cloud backups. One of the main reasons I prefer the manual offline approach once a month which is then dumped into my E2EE proton drive.
Really needed this as Iโ€™m on the verge of moving from iPhone to Pixel. Now Iโ€™m not afraid to go directly Graphene ๐Ÿ’œ Whatโ€™s your experience with Nostr on Graphene so far?
So good! Very different apps, and a level of control of your data you cannot imagine
You can sandbox GP, or install and run it as your everyday driver. The latter defeats the purpose of GOS. I run GP on another user account for when I have to use Google Maps and Uber

With #Google hardware and closed source Google firmware (baseband module), non-replacable battery...๐Ÿคฎ
All smartphones are made by corporations, that (more or less) likes to collect data. What do you use instead?

How do I use a web browser on graphene without traffic forced through orbot? Tor breaks a lot of sites and apps and makes them unusable. Turning off whole device VPN and only selecting which apps orbot doesn't work bc then they aren't allowed to use internet... Biggest hurdle on grapheme for me, on calyx in don't have these problems.

Is there a good or recommended way to backup or transfer your settings for apps if you're still on stock android? I've been using my phone for 2 years and would like an easy way to backup and restore some things on the graphene side without having to start from scratch.
I'm not aware of anything for global settings like that. Some apps will have their own backup that's tied to a recovery phrase or account, but of course that's on a per-app basis. Take the step as an opportunity to prune your digital footprint and cut ties with the services you don't really need/use.
Already on android. Using already ~80% of the apps which are mentioned in the guide - therefore i might not miss much ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰ But this gave me final clarity as I was evaluating the switch for quite some time now.
Is has its reasons why its only working on pixel. ๐Ÿ’ช But i feel you. But this way you have a backup phone at home or some extra cash ;)

A fair and needed reframing of the thought. Thank you
It was really helpful! I especially like the app recommendations. Many I had heard of but many were new to me. I did get tripped up trying to use Safari and Firefox at first. It felt dirty having to use Chrome and I saw your note that โ€œChrome, Edge or Brave will work fineโ€ but maybe if it said โ€œYou have to use a Chromium browserโ€ it wouldโ€™ve saved me a few minutes. Thanks for the great resource!
