Try the web installer? Should be fine.

It works with web installer. Have done it 5+ times. Pixel 3, 5, 7. If I recall it never worked unless web install.

From memory, and Linux in general, there's some local udev permissions that need to be set for some of the commands to work. And SNAP- and FlatPak- installed browsers may not work for the process, but you can it it all via terminal which is a quite straight forward process anyway.
