mostly likely wallet of satoshi spoke to a lawyer that told them they could reduce liability by removing the app from US app stores if you have significant funds on wallet of satoshi you should transfer them to a self custody wallet to the gents running wallet of satoshi: please don't shotgun kyc people, try your best to unwind it responsibly

Some thoughts about tether, You saw the seizure of 225 million dollars. There is another connection between the Chinese Triads and the Mexican cartels that use Tether to pay out money being laundered. Considering that Tether is an offshore operation, And the US has no jurisdiction to shut it down, How do you see it unwinding? HSBC will literally take billions of dollars from illiterate Hong Kong citizens, And these kind of global banks are “too big to jail”. Do you think Tether is in the same position? Some insight to how the Chinese tether laundering operations work.
What does being "removed from the app stores" have to do with safety of funds when it's apple removing the apps from people's phones and actually essentially rugging people? We should be standing behind WoS to fight this war. They have been here from the beginning. Where would nostr be if there was never WoS? I'd be lacking communication too if my community turned on me simply because of apples actions...
I use muun to aggregate (incoming only) onchain and lightning sats. Once I have a large enough number of sats, I send it onchain to my cold storage or mixer in one transaction to consolidate my utxos. I try not to send lightning payments out using muun because their implementation of submarine swaps can cause high fees even when using lightning. Each transaction OUT requires both a lightning and onchain transaction. Lightning transactions in are fine because the sender pays the normal lightning fees. Muun is great for aggregating all those little zaps into one big(ger) onchain utxo.
The risk reward of using wos has shifted. It's still on my phone but empty for the time being. there's now an added layer of complication when it comes to recovery if anything unforseen happens to your phone/wos install.

So the organization that runs WoS is what they are going after. To regulate our internet. They just turn off access in US app stores. This violates free speech! Let me run whatever free software I want! If WoS was a decentralized protocol nobody could attack it the same way. Like NOSTR. Lightning IS the internet. Let’s make lightning truly native so that nobody could turn it off.

many nostr natives don’t have enough sats zapped up to self custody them via the 50,000-100,000 lsp hurdle i just sent my WoS zap/sats to enuts as it works with imported nostr contacts
What is there to unwind, exactly? WoS will keep operating in the rest of the free world. US people can withdraw their funds to any wallet of their choice, and they’ll have one less option for using LN. Will be very fun onboarding normies on self-custody LN wallets in a high fee environment.
I wonder if a bunch of people in your situation gave WoS their Gmail which is basically light KYC
What’s the best way to get lightning sats back to on chain sats?
Apple isn't taking any actions. WoS is an Australian company that has made the decision to no longer do business in the United States.
removing the app from US app stores will not satisfy regulators - they will expect kyc on all users globally to make sure americans are not using it yes, that is fucked up but that is how large custodians have been treated in the past removing the app from US app stores abruptly with delayed comms indicates a level of panic from their team that is a concern - the only responsible path forward requires deliberate action from the wallet of satoshi team to encourage users to withdraw funds ASAP - otherwise the next course of action is likely a panicked shotgun kyc of all users without notice View quoted note →
I don't know what exactly was the main ground in that specific case, but there is a new attack from FATF (especially on crowdfunding process via self-hosted wallets/ p2p transactions, encrypted messengers): https://www.fatf-gafi.org/en/publications/Methodsandtrends/crowdfunding-for-terrorism-financing.html (page 30) and one more in the EU on self-hosted wallets as post-MiCA legislative process from the side of European Securities and Market Authority : https://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/STUD/2023/740083/IPOL_STU(2023)740083_EN.pdf (page 86)
"Our commitment to providing a secure, user-friendly, and compliant platform globally is unwavering." WoS is committed to compliance. You know what that means 🥶

Can’t you still use WoS pseudonymously? How can I be shotgun KYC’d
Nice! Bookmarking for later. Have a Start9 so might have to get a clearnet BTCPay that connects over TOR to the node. 🤔
I’ll have it then lnurl1dp68gurn8ghj7ampd3kx2ar0veekzar0wd5xjtnrdakj7tnhv4kxctttdehhwm30d3h82unvwqhk26t8dp6xsurjdaj82cm5xyeqgug80k

I've heard they log your IP address. As long as you haven't "backed up" your wallet it should still be relatively anon if you're using a vpn
It's really as simple as: if you want to be an asset that has considerable value compared to US Dollars -- either go it alone (that is without US Dollar investment) or follow the same rules (CSAM bars, AML, KYC and sanctions) as USD. Not sure which path is best right now. But that's only because I generally follow USD regulations as currently crafted. However, remember I was introduced to bitcoin because of anti-poker legislation in the US. Eventually, yes we won't care about USD convertibility.
But I thought ya'll were gonna live in a black market utopia when SHTF @ODELL? These kind of capitulations are only the beginning. The majority own less than 1 BTC. They'll all be forced into the bolshevik banking cartel's approved custodians. It's okay. You'll feel vindicated while meme-ing from your beach house in El Salvador.

The official announcement states removal of the app from the US stores, but it should keep on working fine for the rest of the world!
