mostly likely wallet of satoshi spoke to a lawyer that told them they could reduce liability by removing the app from US app stores
if you have significant funds on wallet of satoshi you should transfer them to a self custody wallet
to the gents running wallet of satoshi: please don't shotgun kyc people, try your best to unwind it responsibly

Still appears in the Canadian Play store.

What do you think about Muun wallet?
There seems to be a lot of that going around.

Some thoughts about tether, You saw the seizure of 225 million dollars. There is another connection between the Chinese Triads and the Mexican cartels that use Tether to pay out money being laundered.
Considering that Tether is an offshore operation, And the US has no jurisdiction to shut it down, How do you see it unwinding? HSBC will literally take billions of dollars from illiterate Hong Kong citizens, And these kind of global banks are “too big to jail”. Do you think Tether is in the same position?
Some insight to how the Chinese tether laundering operations work.

Thank you Sam! I use it to save the sats until I need them, and I always check the lightning tx fees before send or receive.
What does being "removed from the app stores" have to do with safety of funds when it's apple removing the apps from people's phones and actually essentially rugging people?
We should be standing behind WoS to fight this war. They have been here from the beginning. Where would nostr be if there was never WoS?
I'd be lacking communication too if my community turned on me simply because of apples actions...
Not a chance that KYC isn’t the next move.
it is wise step remove from any "such jurisdictions" - while providing service to others. many others have done same in past paxos , localbitcoins, ...
☑️
Amen
You do realize it's off android appstore as well? This isn't an apple only situation like damus.
This
Yes. And it will stay on my phone...
Just like when they remove amethyst next...
The only people that should have to worry are the idiots agreeing to apples terms of control by using their products.
Thank you Sam! I didn’t find another mobile wallet I can trust by now. Any recommendation?
That's not the whole story. The first swap in, or back out it can be horrendously expensive.
However once in, it's just regular lightning. I just sent 500 sats from MUUN to mutiny wallet, 1 sat fee. Instant RX over lightning.

I use muun to aggregate (incoming only) onchain and lightning sats. Once I have a large enough number of sats, I send it onchain to my cold storage or mixer in one transaction to consolidate my utxos.
I try not to send lightning payments out using muun because their implementation of submarine swaps can cause high fees even when using lightning. Each transaction OUT requires both a lightning and onchain transaction. Lightning transactions in are fine because the sender pays the normal lightning fees.
Muun is great for aggregating all those little zaps into one big(ger) onchain utxo.
Lol, I'm a dumbass and covered the fee on my screenshot. It was 1 sat. 501 total out.
😊 In general I see low fees, I check that before sending or receiving.
Thank you for your answer!
The risk reward of using wos has shifted. It's still on my phone but empty for the time being. there's now an added layer of complication when it comes to recovery if anything unforseen happens to your phone/wos install.
We all know how this ends
So the organization that runs WoS is what they are going after. To regulate our internet. They just turn off access in US app stores.
This violates free speech!
Let me run whatever free software I want!
If WoS was a decentralized protocol nobody could attack it the same way. Like NOSTR.
Lightning IS the internet. Let’s make lightning truly native so that nobody could turn it off.
Why do you liv6e custodians? Why don't you become a Bitcoiner instead?
Your post is being well-received.
Added to the https://nostraco.in/hot feed
I've been loving Mutiny
many nostr natives don’t have enough sats zapped up to self custody them via the 50,000-100,000 lsp hurdle
i just sent my WoS zap/sats to enuts as it works with imported nostr contacts
Phoenix
Blixt
Nayuta
…
ofc he didn’t know. Regulation happened🥲
Yeah nah,
ALL CAPS ODELL was more fun.
What is there to unwind, exactly?
WoS will keep operating in the rest of the free world. US people can withdraw their funds to any wallet of their choice, and they’ll have one less option for using LN.
Will be very fun onboarding normies on self-custody LN wallets in a high fee environment.
They will be the last ones to admit they can't afford it.
I wonder if a bunch of people in your situation gave WoS their Gmail which is basically light KYC
What’s the best way to get lightning sats back to on chain sats?
Apple isn't taking any actions. WoS is an Australian company that has made the decision to no longer do business in the United States.
Enuts is wicked good
Hicieron un comunicado hace unas horas
Always wise words 🤙🍀💜
removing the app from US app stores will not satisfy regulators - they will expect kyc on all users globally to make sure americans are not using it
yes, that is fucked up but that is how large custodians have been treated in the past
removing the app from US app stores abruptly with delayed comms indicates a level of panic from their team that is a concern - the only responsible path forward requires deliberate action from the wallet of satoshi team to encourage users to withdraw funds ASAP - otherwise the next course of action is likely a panicked shotgun kyc of all users without notice

Do you anticipate similar from Alby and the like as well?
yes, any custodians that gain significant marketshare will have targets on their backs
I don't know what exactly was the main ground in that specific case, but there is a new attack from FATF (especially on crowdfunding process via self-hosted wallets/ p2p transactions, encrypted messengers):
https://www.fatf-gafi.org/en/publications/Methodsandtrends/crowdfunding-for-terrorism-financing.html (page 30)
and one more in the EU on self-hosted wallets as post-MiCA legislative process from the side of European Securities and Market Authority :
https://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/STUD/2023/740083/IPOL_STU(2023)740083_EN.pdf
(page 86)
"Our commitment to providing a secure, user-friendly, and compliant platform globally is unwavering."
WoS is committed to compliance. You know what that means 🥶
But they are not a US company & are located out of Australia right?
So things might get weird right?
time to figure out zaps on my CLN StartOS node...
they really can't stop anyone from side loading.
Whether the only option to freely use a centralized wallet in the future is to have KYC
us regulators are not known to respect borders
🫡
I assume this is "clean up" but the banks before BR ETF lands. Gotta herd the sheep toward the "correct" answer.
💪
The US is not known to respect borders
Fixed it for ya 😉
#runyourownnode
He must be in all lowcaps mode due to the recent events
What noncustodial wallets can be connected to nostr without running my own node? I would like to run my own node but aren't set up for it yet.
@Alby is going self custodial soon 🫡 View quoted note →
Good
They've never had real resistance though either.
Get to a non-extradition zone, defy them, and show them how little power they actually have.
Laws are just chicken scratch unless you can enforce them.
They can enforce them. They will get whichever country they are based to enforce on their behalf. Nothing new there.
Can’t you still use WoS pseudonymously? How can I be shotgun KYC’d
You can do this!

Can't withdraw until you prove your identity with license.
Nice! Bookmarking for later. Have a Start9 so might have to get a clearnet BTCPay that connects over TOR to the node. 🤔
who in their right mind would hold more than 100k sats on there? I have like $10 worth of btc on there I don’t give a shit what happens to those funds.
I’ll have it then

🤔 self sovereignty or bust it seems…
It’s interesting to me that this happened so soon after this note. 🤔

I've heard they log your IP address. As long as you haven't "backed up" your wallet it should still be relatively anon if you're using a vpn
It's really as simple as: if you want to be an asset that has considerable value compared to US Dollars -- either go it alone (that is without US Dollar investment) or follow the same rules (CSAM bars, AML, KYC and sanctions) as USD.
Not sure which path is best right now. But that's only because I generally follow USD regulations as currently crafted. However, remember I was introduced to bitcoin because of anti-poker legislation in the US.
Eventually, yes we won't care about USD convertibility.
But I thought ya'll were gonna live in a black market utopia when SHTF @ODELL? These kind of capitulations are only the beginning. The majority own less than 1 BTC. They'll all be forced into the bolshevik banking cartel's approved custodians. It's okay. You'll feel vindicated while meme-ing from your beach house in El Salvador.
This is spot on. Nobody on earth can offer payments via internet without getting entangled in US executive dictates.
So at the moment nostr + lightningneed to use custody to work ?
*ps: lightning is a fail bitcoin project*
Australia is known to respect "laws".
Nope. You can do it in a sovereign manner. Just takes work.
Lightning is working well enough. Got other ideas?
The official announcement states removal of the app from the US stores, but it should keep on working fine for the rest of the world!
Correct. Any hostile government won't.
Shit, I better ditch my Canadian currency held in the US.
How very unpleasant.
self host is necessary
self host is necessary
The truth is often unpleasant. How can we solve for these inevitable threat vectors?
