That’s nice and i concur. I have never and probably will never use it, but for the role it serves they seem to do a good job. Just nobody keep more sats on there than your comfortable with not having custody of
LN payments are generally micro payments, better not to keep more than a couple of hundred dollars as pocket change in these wallets. No one is too big to fail... Not saying that they will fail, but better be safe than sorry.
Earlier, you mentioned: rug, shotgun kyc, or deliberate honeypot. I think there might be another scenario in which WoS made a cut down basic lightning app to make modest profit in a legitimate way from routing fees.
So long as everyone expects a rug. Education will prevail and ultimately give WoS a proper use case in the grand scheme. For me, WoS is a coin purse for a night out.
Better layer 3 solutions will evolve. At the moment, WoS is great for bitcoin adoption. All centralised services are a risk to your sats. The future needs to be decentralised.

remaining sats on WoS are my rug gift to them. Don't use anymore but was an important beginner tool to gain exposure/learning/test experience

While I love self custody for me I 💯 respect there are many people who just don’t want that. I’m very grateful WOS exists to fill the need for those bitcoiners who want to custody that way.
Tbh I just assume WoS will rug and hold the appropriate amount of sats for that expectation.
Here's the dilemma I have: I use WoS solely for zaps on Nostr, which means I never keep more than say $10 worth of sats in that wallet. I would love to have a non-custodial solution that is *easy*. Here's the thing, I'm a scientist/engineer by training and know how to code. So for me the technical side is not an issue. I've spent a bit of time looking into non-custodial solutions to deal with zaps, but I'm not going to put in a bunch of effort to set this up in my node (which I'm running), to mitigate the risk of losing $10 worth of sats. The opportunity cost of doing so is too high for me at this time as I have a busy life and a relatively young family. Setting up WoS to send/receive zaps took literally minutes, and if someone could recommend a non-custodial solution to do the same thing I did with WoS I'm open to it.
i think it really is a simple matter of trust. bitcoin is both trust less and secure but in order to scale any money system will require some level of trust. the simple formula is maximize scalability and minimize trust. but the purity tests of bitcoiners sometimes to never trust wears thin sometimes.
