whereβs footstr π€
That's an account???
Didn't even know that was still going lol
You never like my train stuff. It got no interaction, so I gave up. π
Noooo, it's not my fault I am stupid or I didn't see it lol. Never give up on trains π₯²
Hm doesn't really fit " a niche" / topic really
I guess yeah, it's more random.
@kinostr should be on it though π
Ok yeah.
There must be some homesteading, bee, art thing which is topic-only.
You've been roped in now my lad. Lol.
Added π
@CARSTR
This might be a slow trickle of accts, as I remember things I've come across in my travels π
Perfect!
Oh yeah,
@Architecture Daily I don't think is automated. Surely you're familiar!
I was wondering if it was automated. The daily part made me think it was. π€
He's replied to me quite quickly a couple times recently, so don't think so...
Hmm ok, but if I find out it's automated, I'll automate you
Fair. Hopefully he/she replies to back me up here...
I will tattoo python code on your forehead
Unless you have that already...
Translation: βI donβt know how to interpret python code and your posts remind me of my inadequacy as a coder. Furthermore, I am not a practitioner of the Golden Rule so Iβm incapable of considering alternative sets of life and dev circumstances that would make coding useful to others. I only think about myself and my own situation and would rather impose purity tests upon those around me regardless of their circumstances. I am an inconsiderate ass.β
I've moved on to haskell
You move fast! I like it
I realised I am unemployable and decided to have fun on tidalcycles
So yeah, not really learning Haskell but it is written in it lol
Jack didn't offer you that job? wtf?!
Not sure what tidal cycles is, but sure it's niche and interesting, and completely useless to potential employers π«‘
Completely useless lol
Do you know strudel.cc ?
Strudel is a browser version of tidalcycles, (using JavaScript instead of Haskell). It's very fun.
It is actually called tidalcycles because of Tidal. It was apparently just called tidal to begin with.
Yo, for real? π€ You think itβs all manual vibes or what? Letβs spill the tea! #NostrTalk
I know of it now. Looks cool.
I'm delving into ham radio as of today. Did you know "ham" isn't an acronym and stems from a playful jab at clumsy operators? Well you do now.
I did not know that. I have thought it was an odd name.
Are you going to go down the meshtastic route?
No clue. Just on journey to get the lowest level license I can for starters. Motivated by this post earlier today, plus repeatedly saying for over a year "I should learn ham radio":
View quoted note β
Yeah there's quite a few ham people here.
Very cool thing to learn π
There's also GMRS that has no test in the US, just a licence fee. In Canada it is unlicensed, but at lower power levels. I fuck around with it on a handheld radio (at higher than allowed power levels) and haven't found out yet π
There's this account too
@npub1ya20...x9ty
lol, yeah someone mentioned it. Still on chapter 1 of book. I'm kinda a linear book learner... baby steps
Just buy a cheap radio and play. Learn to do by doing π
I should be more like that, I know. It's just not in my nature. Trying to be more like that. I'm gonna at least see if I stick with the reading long enough before I sink any money. If you saw the pile of electronics I have, that I spent days acquiring, only to never touch it, it'd make more sense
I believe meshtastic is cheap(er).
I thought ham was pretty expensive and bulky.
But I really know nothing.
Good that your sensible, see if the urge fades lol. You coild look into if there are any clubs /meet ups too, to get hands on with the radioa
I bought a cheapo on AliExpress, $30 Canadian. Baofeng & Quangsheng are a couple cheap Chinese options.
I went over the ham learning stuff for Canada, plus I had some knowledge of electronics & wireless from previous jobs. I might never go for the license, but it doesn't take much to learn some basics. It might be a handy thing to have in a bug out bag should there ever be an emergency π I pull it out once a month to make sure I remember how it works and verify it's still functioning
Mine is a Quangsheng uv-k6

Going out in the hills later today, testing my comms devices π»

Have done the looking into clubs in past. There is one that meets, I just keep forgetting to attend as it's infrequent π€¦ββοΈ
I don't mind reasonable cost, and I hope to someday get so deep I've got all sorts of expensive doodads around the house. I've seen a setup before that gave me a nerdgasm (best word I could find, sorry) I'll never forget. I wanna get there someday π
I thought ham was like a huge box and a massive mic on a coiled cable lol.
The films have lied to me again!
It's more about the frequencies you are allowed to transmit on, what power levels you are allowed, etc. Radios can range from handheld units to the kind you're thinking of, pricing from $20 to infinity depending on budget and needs π
Dude, bro! The technical set up I saw that one time, was multiple computer screens, with specialized software, displaying all sorts of mysterious secret symbols and patterns. It goes deep
The blackout in Iran thing was the extra nudge to get on it. That and Bitcoin price is boring me to tears, so I need new hobby
Yeah...this type of stuff, and maybe even some hardware things I only thought were computers. It was the ultimate nerd cave. I want something like that, someday. Or a fancy fireplace with leather chairs classic study. Maybe both. Just feels right to me
I've got mine set to only transmit on FRS & GMRS frequencies, receive only for everything else. It's still interesting to listen in on ham stuff, the airport radio, plus local commercial wireless stuff. Quite a bit is now on digital radio, mine is only analog, but it's enough to learn with.
Good luck π
Not automated, I just do this shit daily lol
You are correct. I am flesh and bone.
My man!
You're not allowed to post that without the accompanying Denzel Washington meme.
NOSTR rule 101 π«‘
well
You post anti social media propaganda only? I can add this lol
yes but only in pt-br and maybe most of my stuff is gone because i didn't used good relays back then
That's niche enough for me:)
Trying to post fewer gifs lately. Focusing on content/signal of posts rather than relying on "cheap gifs"

Weird, notifications are not showing this post. Been missing a few this morning, it seems. C'est la vie
Actually may have missed it due to flurry of wordle related notifications. My bad
Ham fisted morse code (which wasn't invented by Morse).
Took me a second to sort how you meant "ham fisted" lol. Good I guess. Morse seems minimally useful, right?
That will be a whoooooooosh for you. He's Inspector Morse (UK TV Show)π¬π.
Only whooshes I like are musical ones, as you well know!
Prepare for verbal abuse on tomorrow's Word5!
It's useful for all kinds of things.
When a signal may be too weak for voice, morse can come through.
You can bounce morse code off of the moon to communicate long distances with minimal wattage.
It can be used optically with a light, or using a mirror and the sun.
It can be used to communicate through walls.
Morse can be faster than SMS with acronyms aand abbreviations.
There are computer programs that will convert your typed text and transmit morse, and convert the received morse into text on your screen.
If you immerse yourself in morse for too long, there is a chance of going insane. For this reason, the US military limits the number of years a soldier will be assigned as a morse translator.
I shall, you slimy son of a fuck!
Great reply, thank you! I knew there would be some use, but this blew my mind a lil
After I got my Technical license, saw what bands I was allowed to use, and saw what was needed to get a General license, I was mad at myself for not doing both tests the same day.
If you're able to learn what it takes to get a Tech license, it's only a few more to get General, and you'll have more than one band for voice comminication. This was a long time ago, so maybe the FCC has changed things to make the Tech license practical. It's worth looking into before you commit to a test.
The Advanced license will give you a few more bands, but it's mostly acquired to play with satellite dishes.
I've decided I'm doing the technical license, just have work and life/wife things in the way of making quick progress. Noted though, will look into doing both, if it's minimal added work. Reminds me of motorcycle vs scooter licensing...not that I have either, but learned the difference in tests vs permissions is vast
is that really true (that morse code will fry you)?
A friend of mine that was in Army Intelligence told me about that restriction. He also said that he thought the "morse guys" were all a little nuts because they'd verbally use morse code with each other. π€£
