I believe it. In the early days, I had 100s of Bitcoiners DMing me about setting up a Lightning node, or having a node and never opening a channel, or which custodial wallet to use. I was shocked. Shocked! That's one of the reasons why Nostr is so important for Bitcoiners. It allows them to stop just talking and actually get involved with what they've been preaching about. Using Bitcoin isn't just a once a year event at some conference or meetup. We use it every damn day and all day long here. Let's go.

This app does not work. I hear you guys promoting it on podcasts but when people come here and try it and find you can’t even add followers it’s not a good look. If the devs want it to compete with x make sure its basic functions work…. Implement the same features and algos that twitter is using and ppl will come over here if it truely is censorship resistant.

By implementing the features everybody wants and uses those other apps for but improving upon censorship and shadow banning….? The censorship resistance is this products USP.

The only thing X has on nostr is the network effect if you ask me. That's why a lot of the people are still there. They have cultivated giant followings. Otherwise it's a hell hole.

On Nostr we curate our own feed. If you say something retarded, we tend to just ignore it.

In my view:
1 Bitcoin will always equal 1/21,000,000 of the total network.
1 Sat will always be the smallest unit of measure on the Bitcoin network.
However 1 Bitcoin will not always equal 100,000,000 SATs. As value per Bitcoin intensifies, 1 Bitcoin will be subdivided further and the new smaller units will then be considered SATs.

Nostr as a protocol had to sacrifice the ability to implement many of those basic-expected features in order to provide a basis for the unique features that it does implement.
Consistent follower lists are not that hard to implement. It amounts to one NIP. It's getting everyone to agree that is the hard part.

Not sure about that. USDT zaps are very complex as you are mixing two chains, two protocols and two layers. Client consistency can works in a single NIP as NIP-05 has proved.

I think a Nostr 2.0 has this sort of potential, which means at least a few breaking changes (and many more non-breaking changes, but anyway you only need one breaking change to break it). @Mike Dilger ☑️ is keeping good track of this.
Nostr 1.0 I don't think can scale due to certain laws-of-physics walls it hits. A lot of smart people here are dedicating a lot of braincells to problems that are already solved—it's just that the solution would mean a breaking change and there is an understandable fear of that.
Nostr 1.0 is still great for B2B and other things where the problems Nostr 2.0 solves come less into play. But for what you speak of, I think there are a number of breaking changes that are necessary.
I don't see normal everyday folks complaining about 30day bans. Only non NPC characters care.
If this develops like bitcoin, we need at least another 10 years to see some normal people here ;-)

It's critical that we continue to do so, because if the goal is adoption than just chatting with the existing crowd here on Nostr is not going to do anything to help bring more people in. It may be based on the profiles that I am following in my feed, but the VAST majority of content I see here is directly developer or Bitcoin related. It's a tiny sub-set of the content that we could see if 8 Billion people were constantly posting their entire lives on it. We know that is the goal, so we need to focus on steps and milestones needed to reach that goal.
If you're ok with your posts going to a centralized computer before being posted, fine, Xwitter will work.. You don't like that idea, fine, Nostr can help. It's not really a competition.. I like having options. Obviously, since you're posting on Nostr, you don't mind having options either.
No algorithms. No advertising. If that's what you think makes an app work, you're drowning in a debt based world while we are building a wealth based world. To each their own.

All further subdivision will have to be external to the protocol, because everything in the bitcoin protocol is nothing but an integer, to soft fork in more subdivision we'd have to allocate a separate space in like the timestamp or something and mark it as a decimal. But it runs into its own problem because if the decimals add up to being more than a single satoshi combining a few txns, but the old network only sees the integers, it'll appear invalid because there are more sats than there should be in the UTXO. This would cause a hard fork.
in other words: The bitcoin network actually only sees satoshis, there is no 100,000,000 unit at the protocol level, and that's way harder to change than people think.
I'm not a developer so I don't know what is required to do this, but I think it may work by simply having all wallet balances (and any other aspects of the code required to remain functional) go up in unit count by 10.
Within the software we could add a zero to the definition of base units that make up a Bitcoin, and increase all current wallet Satoshi holdings by 10. Total network value remains the same, 1 Bitcoin is still 1/21,000,000th of the whole network, we just cut the smallest pieces even smaller to increase usability. 1 Bitcoin could equal 100,000,000,000,000,000 Sats one day, or even more. It's just more division.
Right now it's not a big deal because Satoshis are only 1/10th of a cent in value, but when they grow to approach or exceed dimes and dollars I think consensus will be found to update the base chain to continue allowing ease of use, likely within a decade IMO.
