Bad marketing for Nostr clients to position as “wallets.”
Being money-obsessed is low-status. And social media is all about status.

Nostr isn't social media, most clients aren't
Lol, hell understand soon. It's just his first day.
🫂 For the new pleb
I hold money, call me low-class
Some wallets like @OpenSecret and @eNuts ⚡️🌰 are actual wallets first and foremost though. They just make use of the Nostr social graph to make it easy to pay your frens.
Portable identity and interoperability is Nostr's best feature > Zaps

Nobody here really gives a fuck what social media thinks, stay humble produce value and stack sats...
Primal is the only client I know that has a built in wallet, and marketing this way. Everyone else is commited, with optimism, that new models will work themselves out.

Great to see #bitcoin OG @Naval getting active on nostr
He moves the needle in tech

Love that you're here with pause like this
Lol working on it 🫡
What would you recommend?
Also bad marketing to position Nostr as social media ;)
Not all clients do that
Which client are you using?
Most people are intrigued by #nostr when I tell them it’s cryptography without a coin… there’s a purity to that.
Zaps are secondary.
Maybe. But I like to have a custodial wallet. Primal is very convenient.
He has a primal wallet, so Primal probably.
Some mobile clients are reluctantly taking that route to appease Apple who is trying to enforce their App Store tax on zapping content directly. (This makes Apple the highest margin bitcoin exchange in the world right now.)
Tech leadership needs to help apply pressure on Apple for being on the wrong side of history. If they don’t adjust soon they risk irking the wrong people and risk disruption.
You may call them 'encrypted signing devices'. I find this name helps me understand their true function
(unfortunately, 'encrypted signing decives' is not as catchy as 'wallets')
"social media is all about status"
We're all plebs on here
Welcome ✌️
or maybe lightning wallets might defined differently than an onchain wallet? 'open liquidity channels' or sthing?
Interesting
I like the guy but he has a long way to go before he understands this tool set.
*laughs in social media

Interesting. Explore nostr. Its a protocol. To call it social media is to be missing the point or to be early on the curve. Enjoy! Discovery is fun.
Interesting. Thanks for the explanation.
He said “nostr clients”.
in the old fiat world, it's about credentialism status, but we are entering a new hard money world and it will celebrate proof of work status
Thanks for caring enough to provide this feedback @Naval! You’re right; our current tagline misses the mark. Planning to change it for the upcoming 2.0 release.
A rapid money revolution and USD rug pull is not low status
yet you're using Primal, the social wallet, as your nostr client. That's like using Coinbase to store your coins.
what happens when someone goes viral on nostr and transparently get rich infront of the world???
Money is an important part of our social life.
Current has one too. They've had it since before Nostrica.

Very easy to forget the "other stuff" transmitted through relay in the full acronym
It's ultimately an overlay network for lightning, it's only shitcoiners calling it a wallet proper
"Social Media" is all about status so these influencoors can get endorsement deals and make money off people indirectly. Better a system where people can directly tip content creators for stuff they like.
NO
is connection. community
as you said

wallets = IDs
we can’t live in society without money
own bitcoin
wen 2.0 release?
Wait til you see what @PABLOF7z is building. 🌰🐿️⚡️
Um. Just to open up a conversation. Don't blame the messenger… but says the guy with a post on how to get rich.
What app are you using?
"I've just discovered Nostr, and I'm here to fix it" 🤡

two weeks
why do you say that? the other stuff doesn't work without the social media part I think
Soon™
Sick 🤩
Funny when people with lots of money preach about not being obsessed with money....then go on to say being 'money-obsessed is low status' when their entire 'status' has been built around making money
I don't think it's bad marketing. Nostr doesn't have a singular use case. I don't understand how it's being money obsessed.
Wallet is also not just about money. It holds you ID, driver's license, health insurance card etc...
Hi Miljan!
I’ve recently switched over to Primal full-time after Damus updated to a chat-like post format yesterday. I’m loyal to the classic thread format from old Twitter.
Although, Primal is missing a few fundamental features that are hard to live without… features that are vital to the network effect, security, and data discoverability on nostr.
1. The “Followed by” discovery feature that Damus & X have, seen in the photo, are so important for a social media with such a small network effect. 🌐 When I review a new account, this “Followed by” feature lets me see how many mutual acquaintances we have in common. It’s like a manual Web of Trust. Much easier to confirm real accounts and assess strangers.
2. I should be able to go to your profile, open your list of relays, and tap on the new relays I want to connect to. The relays in the list I’m already connected to can be present too, but with a different icon beside them, just like on Damus.
Preventing users from being able to discover the relays of people they follow is antithetical to nostr’s philosophy of data portability. We should make moving relays as easy as possible rather than relying on Primal’s giant cache layer.
Will these features be in Primal’s 2.0 version? I hope so. Basic infrastructure. 👊
“Followed by” picture

Sound money is my time and energy stored and available to me anytime to send via Nostr to anyone globally. Nothing low status about that. Nostr is a protocol that enables me to be free among many other things
Low status to me is being on Twitter needing followers to validate your nonsense. Empty legacy BS

Thanks for this feedback!
Both of these features are on our to-do list; they will be added to the product before long. Keep the feedback coming!
Great to hear. Good luck! 🍀
Private zaps and profile zaps from Damus don’t register on Primal. 3rd feature request!
Sending a private message with a Zap is the best. 🙏
Easy talk for a rich rich man.
much better: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/primal/id1673134518
Obsessing about getting zaps is definitely low status. How low status is paying with your attention to ads though?
Zaps and v4v is a nice experiment and we won't stop there.
Meh. So much of this stuff is "gee maybe we're just using the wrong words, if we use the 'magic' words crowds will show up!"
"Wallet" is standard for the field. We don't want to go about inventing an entirely new language. If someone understands and knows what crypto/bitcoin is, they'll know what a "wallet" is.
The problem isn't that we're using "wallet", or that we're using Sats instead of $'s, or any of that. It's that nobody knows what Nostr is. It's purely marketing.
Being obsessed about status...
> 19 zaps
You earned it, ser!
Wisp has one built-in, but there’s no “Start in wallet” feature like Primal, and the wallet button isn’t front and center on the menu. It also has a “Fiat mode” for people who don’t think in bitcoin.
Well, current Euroslop is centred on biometric digital identity wallets thatt'll be used in every aspect of life.
I guess Primal is following a trend, and given that they've just integrated Spark (a16z coin) it's pretty clear that they'll continue to follow the money.
Incredibility low status.
