Look I’ll be honest. I’ve been a HUGE Nostr hater. I honestly can’t fucking use this damn app and it makes me feel like an idiot. I have NO IDEA why you guys like it I follow people that I never end up following, I write messages I can’t see, and the only advice I get is to do a bunch of random technical hoo-ha But yesterdays Twitter hack was a BIG wake-up call. I got almost no help from centralized Twitter So I’m going to commit to spending 30 minutes a day to try to figure Nostr out, okay? 🤝 Day 1. Let’s go ⚡️

Start following way more plebs, check out their notes. Pick what you like. And remember, this place isn't finished, using Nostr now is like moving into a house while it's under construction. There's a plumber in the kitchen, there's a carpenter in your roof, there's a plaster doing the drywall if your bedroom.

With a half-charged phone, content especially on Damus (for me still the best client) loads forever. Maybe you use the Damus Desktop App?
It gets better, just a little learning curve. What client are you using? Good relays help, follow some folks, post some cool notes and your experience will improve a ton. The decentralized nature means it's tough until you have enough connections. And if you want to see your own notes, follow yourself. Sounds odd, but it makes it easier to find your own shit.
You’ll get it. Delete Twitter. You need to end your relationship with it before Nostr will work. ⚡️Zapped ⚡️ 💜 Followed 💜 🙏 ₿oosted 🙏 🤙 #plebchain 🤙
See #[5] actionable recommendations on getting a LN address View quoted note → Once you set up your LN address successfully, you should see a ⚡️ icon on the bottom right of all your notes. This means that you can be zapped by other nostriches for the content you share here. Unlike twitter, there is no middleman to take ad money that your content generates by way of views. Let’s see you get the #zap!
This is great, and if we have to show this to new users in order for them to understand zapping it probably means onboarding remains an uphill battle

Looks like people are taking the time to give you direct & helpful advice. Good luck— you are blessed because it appears you are amongst friends.
I use Alby. It’s also possible to connect it with your own node. Sadly they don’t have a mobile UI, but I connected it to Blue Wallet for that. Wallet of Satoshi is the easiest imo. You can also use it only for receiving sats and some other wallet for storing & sending.
Welcome back! Remember that nostr isn’t an app, it’s the protocol. It’s also getting better every day but it takes time to build great UX and devs need constant feedback on the stuff they build.
There are many different apps to use. Take a look at to get an idea. I'm sure you'll find one of them easy to use. I'm using more-speech. You can download a copy at There's also a set if videos that might help. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx461OFj6hkhe5ci8bwRk3w Good luck. Nostr is still in its infancy and may require a bit more persitence and patience than some others; but nostr is worth the effort. It is the only social network that nobody owns, nor ever can own. First thing to realize is that it's a protocol, like Bitcoin, so there isn't "the app", but rather many clients, some of which might be better or worse than what you're used to.
good move. Bitcoin user experience took years to become what we take for granted now. Both still have a long way to go for mainstream onboarding
As a newcomer myself, I'm asking myself two questions: 1. is it vulnerable to DDos? Anyone could simply create a gigantic amount of pub keys that would post gigantic number of comments, masking any "genuine" message in a flood of bot-generated noise 2. is there any kind of gossip in place between relays? Or do you just have to hope that relevant content will be posted to the relays you are subscribed to

There is no right way. Look at who you follow and add relays they have to your list so you can interact with them and vise versa when they post notes.
There’s no 1-size-fits-all solution. All depends on your device, bandwidth and your expectations. Generally 8-15 is what fits most. There are some relays which read info from multiple sources and filter it, thus taking the load off your device, such as nostr.wine and nostrich.land. My guide elaborates on that: https://lnshort.it/nostr-relays
Brother, what Nostr client are you using? It's gotten so, so much better over the last 6 months. If you're sticking to one client, you shouldn't have issues like you're describing. Now, hopping around the different clients, that can cause issues like you're mentioning. Stick to Damus, Amethyst, Snort, Primal, or Iris for now. Everything else is a bit experimental or not ready for prime time, just yet. Then you'll want to make sure you're using good relays. You can look at my list of relays. I'll recommend all of them. (Minus my personal one, it won't work for you.) My relays have a good mix of paid relays and private relays. Fuck Twitter. Nostr devs and users will help you no matter what. Just ask.
3 is probably a bit too little. I like to recommend somewhere around a dozen. I have too many and need to nuke a few. I'm sitting at 20. They keep creeping up on you. Though, I'm not experiencing any problems so I may just keep it that way. Once I start having issues, I'll nuke it back down to a dozen or so.
I've got a pretty good handle on bitcoin and Nostr in just 3 months, you can do it too. Lots of people to help you out here! 🫂💜
I’m sure I’m not the first person to say this but First step, set up lightning wallet for ⚡️⚡️⚡️🤙🫡
Don’t forget about those “dumb tinkockers” That’s me 👆👆😂

If you can set up your LNURL we’ll zap ya. 😎⚡️🙏
It’s not that bad, just have to work on a low time preference for social media dopamine hits given some tech hiccups and absence of algos
I do agree. There should be ways to do more content filtering. Only thing I have found is primals trending. That's how I found for example this post. On the main page there is only some random shit and due to timezone differences between US and europe, mostly in chinese XD
the tech is cool and powerful and a little abrasive. but it's a net good for speech and freedom, and is already interoperable with the internet of money ₿ at the user's discretion. nostr is the way. #plebchain
Do you know RSS? Nostr is basically a reimplementation of RSS. Or maybe this will help. Think of damus as a web browser. Its not a platform. It just grabs content from other websites (relays) So "how do I work this app" is kinda like "how do I work my web browser" not to say that its as easy as a web browser, but that on a technical level that's what's going on. It also makes for fun comments from people on other platforms being like "I went on nostr and saw someone have this insane take" but that's like "I went on the internet and saw someone have this insane take" like okay, were you on 4chan or? Like which website? (On nostr you'd ask, "which relays?")
Use a performant paid relay like filter.nostr.wine and nostr.wine (not the same!) & well developed client like Amethyst on Android or Damus on iOS and the UX is great
Thanks for this message. I feel like you. I'm here since only 3 weeks. But I want to understand and I learn something new everyday day that I come on #Nostr. One day, we'll not be an idiot anymore 😁
Definitely a learning curve that I'm sure will be abstracted away as clients and the protocol improve. But definitely worth it.
