My grandmother left us today. 106 years of old. More than a century of history. Over her lifetime the Lebanese pound was subject to a 126,000x devaluation. An average of about –11.7%/yr compounded in USD. The lira lost about 99.9992% of its dollar value over that span. She understood all of this. She once showed my mother a 1LL bill from the1930’s and said: This was when the money was worth something in this country. They destroyed it all.

She did not 😔 with the war hitting Beirut, we couldn’t risk going back down. She only ever saw pictures. Every summer she would ask me when I was going to have a baby… took me a while so was very happy when she was born.

Sorry for you loss. My grandmother lived to 103 and my husband's grandmother lived to 105. They both had so much wisdom and experience from the lives they lived. That experience is greatly missed.
What a joy to have her for so long! I have lost 3 of my 4 grandparents in the last 10 years. My maternal grandfather is still kicking and surprisingly healthy for someone who turned 93 last week. I am sorry for your loss, friend but celebrate her longevity and your family's luck in having her around for such a full life.

Sounds like an incredible woman. sorry for you loss my friend 🫂
Sorry for your loss. She must have shared much wisdom with you.
This is the lesson that government money teaches us through lived experience, but our distracted, privileged society tends to remain willfully ignorant about. Slowly, reluctantly, some are awakening to the reality that monetary debasement is happening everywhere, just at different rates, and it has enormous implications. Bitcoin is the lifeboat.
