hey, been using Nostria (android) for two weeks now (during testing), im a newb so mainly focusing on UX/UI, here's my takeaways:
- media previews & playing/interaction is exceptional, really nicely embedded, slick.
- the opaque menus are tidy (premium feel)
- pfp, event loading is super fast, the home feed feels really slick and approachable
- it feels very stable and reliable, never crashed in two weeks!!!!!
- there's an overwhelming choice of menus/3 dots, which end up looking a bit messy/confusing
- some icons/buttons are not intuitive (guessing this is why they need text under some)
- too many options to do the same thing - e.g. '+' (create) should just be on the bottom menu, remove it from anywhere else
Overall, I think an absolute solid 7/10. The back end feels very well built, the UX/UI just needs a tidy up (less is more).
Happy to engage and test more on any aspects of this. Hope the roll out goes well.

Thanks! This is a bug that has been introduced recently with the "new events" button. When initially opening "Articles", it shows articles. When it loads more, it displays events instead. Good catch, though shouldn't have happened to begin with!

I attempted to try it. Signed in with my browser extension and then it took about 20 minutes of waiting and multiple page refreshes for anything to actually load in any of the feeds. Once notes started loading, it was not loading everything from my follows. Defaulting to the “for you” feed is a huge turn off. Visually it looks nice and looks like you are planning to support a wide range of nostr features (live streams, NWC, articles, to name a few I saw) but it is completely unusable if nothing loads. I’ll try again in 3-6 months.

First time you login with an existing Nostr account, it will pre-cache all the profiles of people you are following. This will make the initial load for any existing users a bit slower than second uses.
This only happens first time, and you can see the 60% progress in this screenshot which shows this loading process.
"For You" is the first feed simply because "Following" is completely empty for new users.
"For You" will use the local algorithm, which optimizes your feed based upon your usage patterns.
We will continue to optimize for different users, did try login with your account and after the initial load, things worked just fine. You don't have that many following, but a fairly large set of relays, but it works just fine. Sorry you're experience was not optimal, hope you'll check back earlier than 6 months as this whole app has been developed in 6 months. 🤙

Good idea in theory but not in practice? Idk. I’m not a dev. As a user it felt frozen and that feels broken. Nobody will use it if that’s what they experience. Also, what is the benefit of using “premium” and what is the cost? That seemed very vague. Maybe that should be removed until the bugs and performance issues are worked out. Seems you’re desperate for money by having it there right now. These aren’t insults, just telling you bluntly how it is perceived. Looking forward to seeing it with improvements. Good luck!
just tested NWC and it works fine! there is an annoying and dangerous bug/behaviour with custom zaps, when you type the amount on the box and you accidentally move the scroll wheel on a mouse (apple magic mouse) the amount just moves up or down really fast and out of control....
I'm a bit curious about it taking 20 minutes though, are you on very slow connection?
Premium option is there to have it ready for user adoption. There are not many Premium subscribers yet and some functionality that will be Premium, is available to everyone at the moment.
It for sure is important to optimize the primary use cases and we have worked a lot on optimization. Made a recording with the experience from your profile. There is a few things that will be improved from this recording:
- The initial preload of following profiles will be delayed a few seconds until the feed has loaded.
- The "Following" feed is taking some time, because Nostria implements the outbox model. It goes to each individual user's relays to get their profiles, their posts, media, etc. What can be optimized here though, is rendering earlier when results come back, it's loading for too long and not showing much to the user.

Ah yes, that's a number input, so it works with scroll wheel on mouse, etc. What would you like this experience to be like? Change it from number input to be a regular input where you are forced to manually write the number? What about a numeric pad UI? Maybe some warning if the number is very high?
I’ve spent some time using Nostria and I really like how clean the UI feels. Onboarding is mostly smooth, although it did take a while to load the first time I opened the app. I attached a short video so you can see what I mean.
I really like the built-in translation too. It’s super helpful for a global network like Nostr. With some other clients, I usually have to copy posts out of the app just to translate them, so this makes things easier.
One thing that could be better is the home feed. Things like better search, trending posts, or topic based feeds would help a lot with discovering content, especially for new users. Image attached.
New account on-boarding gets the job done, though it doesn't warn the user to store a backup of their nsec or the seed phrase provided in the credentials section. Probably need to add in a optional guided tour of the features of Nostria. On-boarding should also let the user choose the kinds of reported content they want to hide or not; most users will always likely stick with default settings and never change them.
The built in badge editor is a nice touch
As far as upselling, Johnny Racecar probably wouldn't care for much more than a NIP-05 & maybe push notifications, so there's likely room for a third cheaper tier.
Analytics is almost purely for commercialization and clout chasers, the value add is probably too niche, but someone would welcome it.

Thank you 🥰 Presume you are referring to the notification within the app? Nostria currently sends push notification for new following and new zaps, but unfortunately it doesn't work when the app is installed using the Android package, only as a progressive web app.
That's fairly slow to load on your device and network. At least it won't take that long next time, at least not if you install it as a web app on your device. Then it will launch the already downloaded web app first, and begin updating to next version in the background.
More ways to discover will come. Will investigate more into improving load times, it's not supposed to take that long, even on a slow connection.
I am using it on the web, although the initial load took more than I would expect (1m+), I was very pleased with the blurry translucent design and fluidity.
Btw I used it with brave mobile.
Great feedback, thanks! When you open an event from the feeds, it will open it in a dialog that you can close and you'll be right back where you where.
If you click a profile though, you'll close this dialog and then it's harder to restore back to where you where. We are aware of this and want to make it as good as possible when it comes to navigating back and forward and restoring location.
The "Follow" button would disappear on smaller devices, have added a smaller button for follow that is always visible on top of user profiles now.

Thanks for the feedback! The last 10% of optimization takes 90% of the time, so every little improvement goes a long way to improve the user experience. Will remove the "Create" options from the app menu. Then there will be only two places to create a post, article, etc and that is middle of mobile menu, and on the top of the hamburger menu (top left).

It supports all kinds of signing: Browser Extension, Remote Signer (Amber through relays or other remote signer), External Signer (Amber locally). You can also try it out in read-only mode with your public key.
Thanks for testing and sharing! Yes, for initial signups it will be quick, optimized and will show content very fast. It just happens that there is constantly new features added, new scenarios to support, so sometimes some things change, break or become a bit unoptimized. Which is why we love getting more people to test and get real feedback, to discover what to improve and where to focus the energy.
Analytics is brand new and something we're working on. Earlier feedback from other people has shown that that is exactly one of the features they are willing to pay for.
After 5 launches, there is a small notification that explains about push notifications.
Will add a similar "guide" for backup of the private key.
Cheaper tier could be an option, perhaps people would be more willing to gift subscriptions to their friends and stranger then? What do you think about the ability to gift a subscription?

ive seen you changed it? i liked a lot the quick dropdown box without needing to go to a notifications page.. it was just missing a clear all button but appart from that it was much better that way.
Now it all makes sense, I understand the number in the profile better! Thank you for including Spanish, it makes it a better experience for me. In the creation section, you could also add personalized Lightning invoices so that people can send you sats.
And in the interaction section, you could add emojis! Not just the heart to like notes. You definitely have a lot of room for growth. And the app is amazing, thank you Nostria for creating it. 🫶🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️

Mejoraría que al responder o hacer repost añadir un color diferente al ítem, ya que no queda claro, tal como hacen con los likes.
El menú algoritmo genial, súper el menú privacidad, muy elegante la forma de postear 😁 badge editor 🤯 no lo probé pero genial que este implementado, el conteo de zaps brutal, la medición de quienes postean los que mas conectan contigo esta a nivel extremo 🥸, si la siguen puliendo y haciendolo mas fácil aún cumplirán el objetivo de traer mas personas a nostr y que se queden por la facilidad de usar su app que es su propósito, están en el camino a ser una superapp, lfg
I have some feedback about the UI.
1. It looks so good if you can increase the navbar width a bit.
2. The space between notes and the navbar does not look good for me on big screens. Maybe you could decrease the two-sided space of the notes section and add some X padding/margin to the two sides of the whole page.
The spinner (ignoring the fact that nothing loaded for me after a minute of waiting) is off center and it bothers me, a lot 😂

It was recently added to have some visual indicator for when the feeds and summary is loading, and at the same time disable the reload button.

The app runs smoothly when scrolling through posts. I created a poll but couldn’t see it on my profile, so I was wondering if that’s a premium feature.
It will also be nice to have options like pinned posts, though I’m not sure how possible that is with Nostr.
Overall, Nostria feels polished and easy to use.

I created a Poll and then voted on it just after I created it. I noticed that somebody voted on this poll since. I am not sure where they saw it though.
I see the poll registered as Event 1068 under Notification-System. But where it lives or how to link it is a mystery to me.

After 10 launches, this is shown:
Added more instructions in regards to the QR code, guiding the user of the possibility of logging in on different device through QR code scanning.
If you tag somebody in a note and then remove them it sticks around at the 'Mentioning:' below the note. Even when creating a new Note it is shown. I hard refresh eventually gets rid of it.
You can pin any posts to your profile so they appear on the top for visitors to your profile.
You might be asking about bookmarks? You can also bookmark any post and access them through "Bookmarks", available in the App menu.
When I make a note and then cancel it, it's saids that the draft is saved, but where? Articles has a draft tab, but not notes. So where are the note drafts being stored?

Yeah. After I created the poll, I checked my profile and asked a friend to see if it showed up. It did not. So I voted on it myself to test it.
I was able to pin a post to my profile. At first I did not see where to do it. Thanks for pointing it out.
First impressions, this feels smooth. It loads fast and I have not run into any glitches so far.
One thing I noticed while creating a note. When I tap the image icon, it only lets me pick images. I expected it to show both images and videos so I could choose what to upload.
Am I missing something here, or is there another way to attach a video to a note?
Fixed it! The content will stay centered, even with the menu opened. When you open and close it animates the content a bit, I'll see what I can do about that, it might be a bit annoying? There might be consequences on some screens where it's not fully correct, though this is much better. Thanks for reporting!

Note draft is just singular, persisted in local storage. Allows you to get back where you started. Nothing is pushed to relays, just local, so doesn't sync across devices if you use same account on multiple devices.
Thanks for the suggestion, this has been implemented. So to remove a mention, you can either edit the text, or clicks the X to remove (which updates the note text).

Just trying on desktop for the first time… my first impressions are good, UI is slick, my only criticism at this stage would be the ‘for you’ tab, seems to be all the usual influenzas I have no interest in, eg Mr Dorsey might be very good with computers but his bare deep 3 word posts don’t really do it for me, same can be said for most of the Podcast Industrial Complex. Would be great to see more musicians, artists or other creatives featured there.
I see there’s a choice of calendars, would be nice to see the Ethiopian calendar, if that’s an option, niche I know…

100% man, it's so refreshing. The openness, helpfulness and rate at which things develop is inspiring. I even got myself a GitHub account to be a bit more useful, I didn't even know of Github a few months ago.

For sure. Same here. I have a git hub since one of our companies offers cyber security. Never really used it outside of that until recently.
So far the only thing I don't like about #nostr is the feeling of fear that it may get taken from us all somehow.
I get ya, I don't live in that fear, maybe out of naivety, but hope that its non-centralized structure and community will help it adapt and survive. I'm hopeful 💜
Yes, will investigate more with the Keychat team/source and see if we can figure out a solution. It works on Windows, and sometimes on Android I think, but I tested right now and it doesn't load.
When I try second time, it shows the "Loading Nostria..." which means it does run the app, but there is likely some crash that happens due to how Keychat has integrated the webview. Will get it fixed, but not at the moment, been a bit sick and got a few other issues to handle. Thanks for testing it out!
We hear you! The "Discover" tab will go away for a different kind of Discover feature. The "For You" will eventually get some love and updated content creators. As soon as the new Discover feature is finished, you'll get the new calendar system.

Oh one other thing, I’ve had issues with my Nostr extension when using Orion browser. The pop up appears to enable a permission, I click on authorise and the pop up just hangs. This may well be specific to Orion browser as it worked fine using Librewolf on a different machine.
I’m using Nos2x extension.
To update, Nos2x fine on Mullvad Browser so I guess it's a setting on Orion that's the issue.
