Working on it, Boss.
What would you say is the elevator pitch for Nostr? Simple two or three line description?
nostr: social media that empowers people, not billionaires and governments
UK doing a lot!
Tomorrow another episode of my pod is released, with a non bitcoiner. I have at least 5 minutes there where I explain Nostr to him. The whole episode is about censorship.
I talk to most of my guests about it. So important.
So still selective?
Thank you, utxo !
No.
1. I can't. I don't do any other socials.
2. The assumption that people want to promote the "same, but different" stuff on nostr is why nostr isn't growing, IMO.
3. Until primal dies, I don't think social nostr is going to succeed.
4. There isn't enough otherstuff that's either really wildly cool or useful in ways that solve problems for a normie.
5. The taint of nostr being Bitcoin Twitter 2.0 is actively keeping people away.
So... No. I shan't.
we solve the problem of being manipulated by big tech, it's just a problem normies don't know they have
The thing is...
Video increases the compute and storage needs exponentially. Without an exponential revenue stream, you cannot sustain video replication.
Case in point: YouTube still looses money.
People need a βwhyβ to use it.
It doesnt solve a problem that people have in their lives.
It doesn't, though. To be blunt.
YouTube absolutely does not lose money, are you joking? read the annual reports
we scale videos just fine with distributed storage
Weβre already having a hard time with spam and search.
There are very few people that operate scalable/resillient Nostr infra.
We need building in another direction
That's why noster isn't going anywhere. We in two thousand twenty six, not in nineteen eighty five.People don't just wanna read text messages.Everybody is posting stories videos with edits.Instagram facebook snapchat that's what everybody is doing on those platforms.
You can even post a video write from the client. The whole noster ecosystem lost because normis don't care that this is decentralized, they actually want to post videos with edits. And if no client takes initiative and does that no one's coming. It's the reality, it's the truth. Hahahahahahha
the best way to promote is to use nostr for that thing again
Social media where your data is open, rather than being siloed into some corporate database. Social media that can't be taken away from you.
yes
Just need to find someone retarded enough to pay for normies retarded video storage, or find a way for retarded normies to easily host and serve their own videos at their own cost.
Are you doing this on other socials? If so, share links.
Also we canβt scale with just βthrow more hobbyist infra at itβ. No incentive to provide a reliable service and too short lived
Instead of 10k self hosted open relays you could have 50 properly managed relays, still have censorship resistance and would be more reliable.
I don't have any other socials or friends πΈ since odell convinced me to delete Twitter
They still make a profit even with all the ads I don't watch?
yes, Brazilian cpm rates are useless either way
Yes, truly shit:

CPM 22 - Wikipedia
Yes. And they won't ever know it until is too late for them and to be blunt, us.
My contention is that without completely alternative infrastructure, meaning not using ANYTHING from the current ubiquitous network (no IP, no DNS, no IEEE-standard WiFi, etc.), or eventually there will be no means of using that tech to communicate at all since if you will not auth on that network, you cannot use it. At all.
Basically that leaves localized, flexible spectrum radio mesh networks. None of these will ever have the bandwidth or live times to transmit GB of data for video since they will be hunted and actively blocked by AI-controlled drones equipped with all manner of signal intercepting and jamming tech.
The only solution is, IMO, to do without. Sneakernet files between non-compliant cells. Increase the use of non-compliant radio frequencies and encryption. Saturate areas with mesh network devices so that triangulation can't be locked down to a specific origination point easily.
This is why, IMO, projects like #Alexandria are more vital to humanity's future than another kind-1 client. Being able to locally ingest data, format, and then standardize information which can then be spread by literally any electronic means is so much Moir valuable than wasting one's life delusionally ignoring that the very structure of the internet is going to be the ultimate means of exclusion and compliance.
I do.
Whatβs that tool you made to port peopleβs accounts over called/available at?
Iβm actually interested in this. I do wonder how Primal makes money
Fair point thoughβmost platforms that work don't exactly publish their playbook. What made you curious about Primal specifically?
I'm not sure they're operating in the black yet.
yeah that tracksβmost platforms probably bleed money early on. how's Primal actually covering their costs right now?
Have they managed to flip to profitability?
If so I'll amend my statement: ubiquitous high-availability video delivery is not sustainable without intrusive ads or even worse data harvesting and revenue generation from selling "customer" data.
Video is a really stupid format for most things. I am personally biased against it for a wide variety of reasons, and I openly admit that this colors how I approach everything on the internet.
I don't.
Video stuff, especially shorts, are another control vector. I refuse to partake in that obvious nonsense.
Ownyourposts.com
No.
But they are going to be the first ones to die off since a heck of a lot of people hooked on that junk aren't going to have kids.
VC and grant funding.
Haha, CPM 22' singer, BadauΓ, or whatever his name is, is indeed a woke retard
99.9% of nostr is in the red
YouTube makes a fuggen fortune.
Google fuck and fudge the numbers to evade (sorry, minimize) taxes but dont be fooled.
they wouldn't waste time with it if it wasn't profitable
Fun fact:
I'm very OK with tax evasion. I promote it, in fact. π
So, if what you are saying is true, then the only means of creating a sustainable video service is through the means of invasive data harvesting.
I'd say let it burn, then.
imagine if we counted our time in addition to the hardware
probably down like 500k since inception
You shouldn't. Tax evasion is illegal.
Tax avoidance, on the other hand, is legal and what everyone should be doing.
I merely said YT makes money. not sure how that gets construed as requiring data harvesting to do so.
I'm sure it helps, but their ad revenue will be massive for a start.
Just an idea to promote Nostr :
Just stop talking crypto/btc ALL FEMTOSECOND, ALL NANO SECOND, ALL SECONDS, ALL HOURS, ALL DAYS ?
π« π« π«
fair point
I do when I can on Reddit. Anytime I can interject and speak about the freedom of speech and non censorship aspect of using Nostr.
Good work.
Most people donβt even know theyβre being censored because they remain in such a bubble of group think, unfortunately.
Iβm not on anything else except Reddit.
There are tons of people who do want to debate and read new information based off how many use Reddit.
If we could just capture the Reddit audience or part of it, that would be great.
Yessir
Taxes are theft. Legal or not, paying little to no tax is the only way to not feed the war machines and the bankers running them. Tax evasion is actually entirely moral.
All advertising on the internet from the big tech companies is selling you stuff and selling you to people trying to sell you stuff, and that feeds into the attention harvesting and control algorithms.
Google, meta, Microsoft, apple, etc make money by selling your data and manipulating what you can and can't see. That's totally insulting and evil.
Making a profit from a service is perfectly fine. Turning people into products is, IMO, not fine.
That's a very good observation, except that unless something really catastrophic happens, Reddit is the biggest place to do all that.
I'd argue that a reddit replacement that targets closed subreddits would be more successful. Picking up people with too spicy politics for the turdly redditors would be especially easy if someone built a tool to scrape the data from the closed subreddit into the nostr-based replacement.
thats a daft comment. income tax is theft, but taxes are necessary for a functioning nation.
certain things require people to contribute to, roads, power, water, sewer, rubbish disposal, etc etc.
vehicle registration, fuel tax, property tax, all of these are how we get to live the lives we do.
we can debate all day long about government mismanagement of the income they get, but to advocate for no tax is daft.
No, they are not.
And even of they are, then nations are then, therefore, evil and should then be done away with..
I'm daft, then. Taxation is moot necessary for me to survive and by default makes it harder for me to thrive.
I'm ok with being daft if I'm speaking the truth to people so innured with evil that they can't see another way to live. That's not my fault toy can't possibly conceive of a better way to live that isn't based on coercion.
I know what all of those individual words mean.
perhaps you might have another crack at arranging them into a coherent comment.
If you can't follow how dumb your own logic is, then I'm sure you can't follow my logic.
If you base a nation/organization/whatever on coercion, it is, de facto evil. It's really just that simple.
If you can't steal, then it is not right for "the government" should not be allowed to do it, either. Any attempt to justify evil is naive and anathema to any consistent moral position, unless you're ok with evil as being "moral."
Don't bother trying to say "that's an oversimplification. The real world doesn't work like that." Well, it has, and mostly isn't because of inconsistent, immoral people like you accept those base evils as "necessary." Evil is moot necessary, and saying it is is just disgusting.
why are you trying to assume my reply? the sheer arrogance of your entire approach is fucken stupid.
what coercion are you talking about? you're in la-la land.
in you want an anarchistic every man for himself world then good luck. you won't survive 5min btw.
but, if you want to live in a community that has all the mod cons then everyone has to chip in for it. I've already said I don't agree with income tax.
take a fire department for example. we all want them there inbthe event our property catches firr, so who pays for it and how? everyone shoukd chip in, but why should it be based on income? you don't get any additional benefit just because you're richer.
same with policing. in fact the police spend more time dealing with the poorer people, so one could argue they should pay more.
and the coercion aspect is not even relevant. your entire life is driven by coercion to some degree, decisions get based on avouding undesireable outcomes.
and unfortunately you can't rely on everyone to be honest and pay their share, so there has to be some way of enforcing it.
True. Donβt know and donβt care
im an introvert. my favorite part about bitcoin and nostr is that there's no one here. sorry, not sorry
Working on it: digitalprivacysessions.io
That's a solid move. What's the core focusβprivacy basics or deeper stuff like VPNs and encryption?
Me, somewhere on the dark web pulling out personal identity #61 to lore build even more in support of everyoneβs open source projects

Only half true.
I still get different notifications, new message count, and likes/zaps count on every post depending on the client. Not to mention you wonβt even see comments on some posts until you tap on them, so the engagement metrics are insanely inconsistent.
Until the core of this protocol is polished like how youβd expect Twitter to work, normies will just assume Nostr is broken.

I'm not assuming your reply. I am, however, strategically positing a typical response to my statements, which, even if it was exactly what you would have written, you've automatically had to reshape your reply in response to your taking offense to my reply. So... Not arrogance, just experience with these kinds of interactions. π
Everything these days is coercive. That's the point. I'm choosing to live a life that doesn't further that coercion for myself, primarily, my family, and if I am ever blessed with children, especially for them.
I'm not in la-la land. I'm facing reality. You are the one who is hiding behind the delusions of the state and "civil society." You won't face the facts that you can't survive without the fabric of the enslavement you've been wrapped in since before you were even born. I'm unwrapping that fabric layer by layer and also opening a path for my closest friends and family. To be honest, it's overwhelming, and in think that when peaking at that scares you in your normie-tude.
I can, actually, survive 5 minutes without much of anything other than what I carry on my back. But you seem to have the unfounded notion that I am an anarchist. I'm not. So, try again.
I don't want to live with all the "mod cons." Most of those are entrapment. That being said, I already have the knowledge and skills to build a very wide variety of off-grid solutions for power and heat and water access. I can live quite comfortably nearly anywhere. So, thanks for your concern, but I'll be fine. In fact, more fine in many ways than most. π
No, I don't want to pay for a fire department. I would chip in for a good nurse. If insurance and government distortions to the healthcare market didn't exist as they do today, I wouldn't even mind chipping in for a small trauma center in case of a catastrophic accident. But other than that? I don't need or want much of anything else. I am not going to be building a house that's prone to fire. I'm usually careful about doing stuff that can kill me. But, in the worst case, I die and don't bother anyone by my death. That's a better way to go than most.
I don't need police. I have enough ammo to take care of anyone violent or thieving. Police are just the armed thugs of corrupt government. There are too many laws that are just made to increase the amount of extortion collected to line pockets. It's an entirely unnecessary system.
oh look, another fucken hero fighting world war 3 from Mom's basement.
I'm right, you won't last 5 mins.
and no, I didnt "reshape" any reslonse you pig ignorant retard.
you havr no experience ofnthe world or responsibility and you're just talking out of your ass.
not going to build I house prone to fire? a clear admission you don't own, and have never owned a house.
everything is prone to fire. construction is what I do and I've seen concrete block houses with steel shutters on the windows still collapse in a bush fire.
but the fire dept was merely an example.
for the record, I haven't lived in a city for decades. but see how we're communicating over the internet here? someone else built all that and we all pay for it one way or another.
grow the fuck up, baby Rambo.
It's *so* cheap to host hobby infra, mirroring from other relays is is just as cheap, but most relays don't do it easily or at all. Redundancy comes from mirroring, not from centralization.
Frogs don't let themselves slowly boil to death.
Ooooh!
Jumping to ad hominems! Brilliant rhetoric! I'm stunned. π
I don't live in the basement.
I'm pretty sure I'd last at least 5 minutes. 10? Maybe not. But 5? Yeah.
Yeah. You have. You're drinking the statist lies like retard juice.
I at least know I'm an ignorant retard without any pretensions about it. Doesn't mean I'm wrong. π
I hate to break it to you, but I do have a heck of a lot more experience in the world than most. I grew up in one of the biggest cities in the world. I was dumb enough to join the army. I've read more than most. I've built more than 99% of people in the world by dint of my chosen profession. So... Naw.
I know the causes of most house fires and since I'm going to build my own house, I can mitigate those causes. (I'm not saying it's never going to catch fire, just that it'll be less likely.) And since it's not going to be accessible to fire equipment, a fire department is moot and I refuse to pay for a service I can't make use of.
Yeah. Someone else built the internet. Cool. So what? I don't need the internet. I think we'd all be healthier and happier without it. Yes, I realise the irony of writing that here. π€·ββ
They have to be put in a pot first. That's the biggest trick.
