On a scale from Canadian/UK “spicy” Indian/Mexican/Thai/Sichuan food to the real thing, where do you fall? The problem is, it’s hard to please everybody. Fake Brit “spicy” food is already too much for my wife… and I can barely feel any heat. Meanwhile, anything close to real levels of proper Mexican (not Tex-Mex) spiciness means I’ll be spending a couple of days at the loo, spitting fire out of my behind. Apologies for the graphic scene 🤣🤣🤣

This is true. Very few so-called spicy dishes have heat. Wilbur's Revenge sauce at Famous Daves is one that delivers. It might not be on the menu, and it's definitely not on the table. You have to special order it. If they put that on the table there would be actual lawsuits.

This. Years ago, I was a somewhat regular patron of a local Thai place. Waiter knew us pretty well... always asked if we wanted '2 hot' or '3 hot'... 2 was mild. 3 was just a little hot. So, one day, I asked for '4 hot'. I almost died that day. 😅

The opposite is also true, lots of things not clearly marked as spicy but actually are. And forget about asking staff if something is spicy hot… since everyone’s tolerance of spicy food is different there’s no way you’ll get an answer that matches your own tolerance. It’s a hit or miss.
