Do you trust anyone? I don't mean implicitly but has any individual or group earned that from you?
People on the board of opensats have a track record of creating closed source products and openly harassing devs of products that are actually open source. I'm sure someone has done a writeup about NVK forking Trezor to create the coldcard then closing the source and harassing the devs at foundation and seedsigner among other anti open source actions taken. Note that seedsigner wasn't even a fork but still got relentless negative press run by NVK for their FOSS wallet project.
Don't trust, verify. Of course some people have earned going beyond not trusting into actively distrusting by their actions.

Not open source, source verifiable. For someone selling a product running code they got from someone else's repo it is a bit hypocritical to say no one else can profit downstream from you don't you think?
I find it hard to believe that he’s running the same code as trezor. The trezor wallet sucks ass. I have both wallets and they’re very different. Trezor doesn’t even have a secure element.
It isn't all the same, but he did use large parts of their code to get started.
