Yesterday was the final carbine match for the summer hosted at my club. 3 strings of fire 10 rounds slow fire prone, 10 rounds rapid fire prone and 10 rounds slow fire offhand.
The slow fire prone almost went without a hitch, sling needs adjustment for use as a loop sling. Score 90/100.
Rapid fire prone required starting from a standing position with magazine loaded and bolt closed. On start assume prone chamber round and fire 10 shots in 70 seconds with a magazine change. Initial magazine did not fully seat and that 'click' hit my mental state with an "Ah fuck". We adapt to issues and my breathing was perfect allowing that final shot right before the buzzer. 93/100
Offhand is where the wheels started to come off. I don't practice offhand as much as I should and that reticle was wobbling all over the target. Frustration took over but I managed to score 53/100 on the final string. Lessons learned are that dry fire is a must to develop offhand muscles and familiarity with the position. Overall a fun morning with other talented shooters.
It is this nostriche's belief that any shooter should hopeful marksman learn the skills to fire without added gear. The effects of a bipod and rear bag make a world of difference, however life does not always allow for perfection. There is a F Class match in 2 weeks to see if I can beat my last score.
Scorecard below to keep me honest and an exercise in humility.

IT IS FREE!!!! Choke Tube removed. Thank you to Choke Demon over in the UK for a great choke removal tool. Kroil for your penetrative properties and craftsman for breaker bars.
Now to clean, reassemble and return this beauty
View quoted note →

Update, after 3 days and A LOT of 3in1 plus Kroil the barrel is removed and the muzzle is soaking in kroil to start on the rusted choke tube. Choke Demon has shipped. Now we wait.
In the interim time for a much needed cleaning.

Can someone explain to me why kroil is not available in hardware stores? Pb blast, wd40, 3in1 all there but not a drop of kroil. Ballistol I'd could understand CLP firearm specific but bring back kroil.
Today's post is a commentary on patience and responsibility. I have in my garage a very nice Browning Gold Hunter. This shotgun has brought hours of joy to its owner over the course of numerous duck hunts in the wonderful wetlands of Florida.
On one such hunt the shotgun braved the brackish waters of the intracoastal and unfortunately salt air and moisture found its way into the threads of the choke tube among every other contact point. The owner being tired and following the why do today what you can do tomorrow did not disassemble and clean this shotgun upon returning home. Which brings us to my garage...
The choke is seized in the barrel and the barrel is seized where it collars the magazine and enters the action. After numerous visits to various retail gunsmiths at Bass Pro, Cabelas when it was around and sporting goods stores the owner was informed it cannot be repaired. Their patience is almost gone.
My patience is in letting the penetrating oil do its job to unseize the barrel at which point i will then soak the muzzle in a bath of kroil. After building a jig to secure the barrel to prevent marring the finish and mechanical damage from bending I will then apply heat and torque using the longest breaker bar I can find. But until the barrel is removed, I exercise patience.
I type this to say that we should not always be in a rush and put off what may feel to be an inconvenient task. Take pleasure in the small things like cleaning a gun, making your bed or brushing your teeth. The small acts of preventative maintenance on our lives will pay off, removing the need to visit your friendly gun mechanic because your negligence broke your favorite toy.
And remember there's only 37 days until duck season opens in the Sunshine State. Stay cool, shoot straight and for gods sake clean your damn guns.

Not great but not bad. Focusing on the breathing and trigger control from the 10 sand staying positive. Shot again next month

@Dr. Hax been thinking since reading your book rec, what if someone piggybacked on ring cameras to build out mesh. Especially in more rural areas.
My wife is amazing, surprised me with a new woodchipper because she noticed i was looking into them. Only a 3" but handles a lot of brush and small limbs/trees. Yay free mulch for garden beds and composting
Im not saying i'm the reason but I uncork a bottle of 2021 Higher by @Peony Lane Wine and suddenly there is a ceasefire between the USA and Iran...
Took a month off but back at it this weekend for the local #IDPA match. Pistol is clean, optic is clear and now nothing to do but wait until check in.

Whats with all the hate and name calling? Find something yiu like and share it. Idk the people at any client, i just use what works for me and what i like. Spend your energy and time on some positive life is fun type shit.
@npub1xwhf...vf2d i think you'd like the obsidian vault im working on for reloading. Really nerdy type stuff for data but i cant wait to keep adding loads, sessions and seeing what works.
So now we have results at 100 yards. Weather was beautiful and zero wind. Group definitely opened up but I test from the prone position amd some good be shooter error. MOA of 1.133 & MRAD of 0.329 for 223 Remington & an 18" barrel.
Im building out a nice setup in Obsidian to reference recipes and data. Each range day will hopefully have more as i build out the tool.

@Derek Ross i tried Onyx but it cant create a vault in a user profile on #grapheneos.
#asknostr for the reloaders and gun enthusiasts out there. If one had access to a reloading supply shop that accepted bitcoin, would you take advantage. Feeling out the market as i contemplate buying a business. Currently the only have brick and mortar sales but i see a #bitcoin based future.

10 shots and i didnt blow myself or my rifle up. Some technical issues with my chrono not picking up shots but i can load them again and test. Thinking of doing a ladder to max recommended load. Lets see what 2495 can do in 223. Picked uo some Hodgdon to compare.
