I've been told that blocking/muting/reporting them just makes them easier to find for like-minded cretins that know how and what to search for.

The difference is Derek is relevant, all those bots, etc. usually die out in a month after primal removes all their stuff. I don't think anyone mutes, or reports because it implicitly implies they viewed the content, legally undermining any credibility. If they simply ignore it then they can't be held responsible for inadvertently seeing it. That's just my thoughts however, I just stopped looking at global honestly since it's full of bots, and spam.

I've found muting npubs to be ineffective for the most part. Instead ai use amethysts's hidden words which prevents me from having to see illegal and just gross content where they continually rotate the npub.

Derek gets a ton of shares. those others don't have as many eyes on their posts, so fewer mutes.

you can mute whole image hosts in amethyst I muted all images from misskey (mastodon's version of blossom) now there's basically no hentai in global.

I'm muting all fully clothed pics of people, all cartoons, and clothed pics of animals. Just nekkid animals and people. And no words.

I’ve muted and reported before, and will continue to do so. Sometimes you just run into random shit like those a-holes posting comments and such with garbage, and ya gotta nuke it.

I only read from restricted relays where those can't post so I don't see them at all any more.
