💯 I think zaps are dependent on connection and authenticity more than a distraction from it, though... except with people who allow them to become a distraction. That really says more about the person than the environment though 😅

Zaps are a new type of incentive in the context of a social network, and incentives in part drive behaviors. Values also drive behaviors. Poor behaviors around zaps might simply indicate poor values. I don’t think they’re a distraction at all. They’re revolutionary.

Agree completely, but what’s starting to bum me out is how we all sit here on nostr talking about meaningful dialog. Scan this reply thread, nobody is talking to each other. It’s broadcast only. The biggest voices on the platform just shout things about community then disappear. It’s quite a charade.

I'd like to see less doom scrollers just liking posts and calling it a day. With a zap button, do we even need a like button?

Factual. I guess we don’t have a critical mass to have sustained dialog. I do run a cross some silly discussions time to time, but a majority does not have too deep of a meaning

I'm not so sure it's critical mass as much as it is we've been conditioned to accept the mobile+broadcast+timeline pattern as the primary form of communication. It's just everyone screeching into the void and wondering why they feel alone. Sorry if that sounds negative - I'm not trying to be... just attempting to put my finger on why people are desperate to reimplement the same patterns which have failed to provide meaningful dialog at scale on the major platforms. Popular opinion states if there were just more people on nostr, then people would engage in meaningful dialog, when I think the opposite would happen. Ephemeral broadcast does not engender meaningful connections.
