Makes sense. People like to "show" how great they are doing and love the "rush" of getting likes and comments for how great they show themselves to be to their "friends"...whether their content is actually true of not is highly questionable. I personally believe the more people post on FB about how great their kids, marriage, life, etc. are, the opposite is more likely the real story. Kinda sad TBH

we got so lucky that Libra didn’t work or Meta would have been incentivized to pay people to scroll and just keep serving ads while ensuring their ad revenue gained more than their Libra given away (expenses) and they would have made so much the last 5 years… and people wouldn’t know how to tie their shoes or get off the couch

Facebook's hyper agressive growth strategy includes targeting fresh internet users in poor countries where most people access internet via mobile. They partner with local mobile operators to offer 'free unlimited data' for accessing Facebook and its ecosystem, while the rest of the internet is 'paid.' For most of the new internet users, Facebook is the internet. It's the most efficient data harvesting operation, maybe ever.

First we agree & this isn’t directed at you. Just my feels considering … The irony of people in US getting upset 😭 FFS 🙈 most willingly fed the #AI the last 20 years or more.
the original social media networks aimed to empower users by providing a platform free from GOVT surveillance but it has been manipulated to serve government interests jeopardizing their core principles of privacy and autonomy
Most social media platforms never really focused on making their apps work on low-bandwidth connections like Facebook did, which is a huge deal for a lot of people in developing countries. Americans are just the loudest online, so it feels like we’re the main users, but a big chunk of Facebook’s audience comes from places where facebook is the only option . And if this user count includes WhatsApp, it totally makes sense WhatsApp is still the essential #1 messaging app in Europe and tons of other countries.
and that was lack of character/leadership by the founders/owners/leaders of social media ( something that won't happen if i reign) they couldn't stand up against GOVT surveillance, FBI, CIA, NSA and all GOVTs/Intel from all over the world

CR is 100% captured in that regard. I closed my fb over 10 years ago. Move to CR only to find merchants don't have web pages. All just FB. All communication is whatsapp

@EZ it costs facebook almost nothing to have traffic within its own networking infrastructure. They only need to start paying once they send traffic through a gateway, because they are using someone else's infrastructure at that point. #TollGate enables anyone with access to a gateway to undercut facebook's data plans.
Mexico's TelCel cell phone service gives unlimited data through Facebook/WhatsApp apps, and charges a crap ton through all other apps.
