Sats inbound. Emptied my lightning wallet. Least I can do. Thx for everything
What do you mean? This is a good thing for privacy. People not involved in DMs should not be able to fetch those DMs. Unless you are referring to something else.
Hey nostriches!!, we all enjoy and use @jb55 's great work and talent. It's time to do our part. 1000 sats Zappathon for Will. Mine went.

Hmmm, not able to zap from Amethyst tho I can zap others.
It's not sustainable for all these nodes to keep all the Notes forever/very long time. The DB will grow faster than you can raise zaps. What's the current size, if i may ask?
Just curious. Did you all discuss giving Apple a cut but not converting to dollars, just to make Apple take Bitcoin/Lightning payments?
So you all never discussed the mechanics of how payment could occur from zaps? Would be interested to hear what the app review person said if you told them you'd give Apple their cut, but didn't mention how.
Haha yeah maybe I should build a UI for it still even if damus users can’t contribute to them :/
Are you working on turning Damus into a web app with zaps? I'm kinda holding my breath 😬
Fedilab (mastodon client) is using ntfy.sh for that same situation where there's no Google services. I'm sure the nerds that will be using a phone without Google services will have no trouble setting this up.
Will, 600$ server charge is too much! If you want I can try to help you find a cheaper one πŸ™‚ Can you share your provider and (approx) monthly traffic?
How about a subscription option like Fountain does? That should make the overlords in Cupertino a bit happier in general.
You may try to shut it. Lets see how it goes. But it seems you already have server bill in your wallet. Cheers!

Haha, if Nostr works, nothing big should happen.

Can you put a donation page in Damus with your address? Then we can still zap.

I wonder what's the operational cost of other popular relays such as nos.lol, nostr.wine, and nostr.band
Is your only form of income donations for Damus. Do you not have a 9-5? Just wondering how you can afford to travel the world, Paris, Norway, etc? I'm not offended. Just generally interested.
Would love to hear tips , so I can be rich and successful like you bro.
I remember, once upon a time, someone chewing on the idea of subscription-based paid relays... Would this be an option for you? Once a month, x number of people sending y sats? I know nothing of the technological hurdles, but you built fucking Damus for godssake! I'm sure you and whatever connections you have could put it together if it were viable...?
Would you sell part of the company to someone who helps finance this stuff? I see @ralf already paid the lions share, but for future stability you could ask @Jeff Booth to help finance Damus.
Are the majority of notes on your server? If you shut it down would those notes be lost or are they copied on other servers?
I realize this becomes a big issue with zaps being removed from the AppStore, but it could still be accomplished with the PWA. But have you seriously looked at using a "split zap" default for app users yet? I'm more than happy to contribute but I very rarely do (its when these sorts of posts come across my feed) because its impossible to remember all the people I need/want to support. I would 100% do a monthly fee for the relay, but I am genuinely curious if a default zap split from the client could be a better means of support that feels much lower friction for the user. I *know* I would use it and I also still have a bounty of 1Mil sat for anyone who will implement this for their relay. I can raise it to 2Mil if that will get you to just try it. That's at least your monthly server charge covered once.
afaik split zaps are now not allowed because tips have to be 100% to one person according to appstore guidelines. Another reason why I have no idea why fountain app is still up.
Yeah I know the AppStore is basically a no go, but regarding a PWA or any of the other platforms or client designs, I still think zap splits are a really great option that I’d love to see tested in the real world.
