This is probably an unpopular opinion…but let’s see.. Elon’s smartest move right now would actually be to ally with Zuck… Hear me out… An overwhelmingly large percentage of the Brazilian population literally LIVE on WhatsApp and IG. I’m not just talking their friends, and scrolling. I mean this is how almost EVERY business runs. They don’t have websites down here. They build their entire digital presences on those two apps. If Zuckerberg’s transformation is real (dunno if I’m convinced, but who knows - crazier things have happened) and he allows for the kind of content X allowed to spread in Brazil, this Alexandre monkey would be STUCK. There’s no WAY he could shut access to that down, without the entire country stopping. Literally nothing would work. ——- This is a GREAT moment for Nostr, but we’ve still got a loooooong way to go before the network and the apps on it are robust. In fact, similar to Wikileaks in the early days, we probably don’t want to draw too much attention right now to Nostr apps bc while the protocol itself is hard to censor, as was just seen, it’s very easy to censor an app. Granted, it’s a bit like playing wackamole with Nostr, but once again, we’re not there yet. There probably needs to be 10x more *really good* apps, before we could even hope to sustain a forced shutdown in any country for that matter. ——- Before anyone says “yeah but they’re only stopping themselves from getting on Nostr” Duh…obviously. But these maniacs are also fucking over the very people who live in these countries and require some form of connectivity. ——— So anyway. Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I think this would be a very interesting strategic play. And if you play out the scenario, there’s a good chance that idiot de Moraes here in Brazil ends up trapped between: 1. Having to allow X to operate again, or 2. trying to apply the same pressure to WhatsApp / IG 3. allowing IG/Whatsapp to spread uncensored info, and thus losing his ability to censor anyway All three scenarios, he loses. Curious to hear what a few people think on this. @HODL @Guy Swann @Marty Bent @Lyn Alden @DETERMINISTIC OPTIMISM 🌞 ??

I think you got a point there. It is absolutely true that everything digital runs on WhatsApp ans Instagram in Brazil. So are you in brazil right now?
I think of "apps" on nostr as clients or services that can be run like nodes. Tens of thousands of nerds can all run iris, Primal, nostr dot cooking or whatever. Governments might be able to take down iris, but everyone with a Start 9 or umbrel can run their own iris. DNS is the biggest vulnerability right now, not clients or relays getting censored. I also think holepunch has the potential to fix this.
Doesn't WhatsApp allow spread of any information of groups? I don't get what exactly do you propose. Instagram is too censored, it would be a huge change, but WhatsApp can do it right now, can't it?
All centralized social media will be banned one day. Don't think it will only happen on some countries, it will happen everywhere. The pressure from governments is increasing because their dirty fiat system is dying.
I actually think Facebook is immune to anything the Brazilians can do, so won’t affect their profit one bit. X is relatively easy to ban, so are nostr apps, blue sky, etc But they ban any of FB’s stuff here, there would be a nationwide revolution the same day
I am sorry you spend so much time writing all of this with the assumption that Zuck "has changed", even if that is the case, I am not convinced he has that much power, his companies have been infiltrated for more than a decade now and he is just the front man of the show.

Zuck has been asking for forgiveness instead of permission from his users since the dawn of facebook in his dorm room until the present with this latest letter. Just because he has a new hobby and a gold chain doesn’t mean he’s a new man. It’s possible, but he’s given no reason to trust him until he puts his own head on the line.

Zuckerberg is as pussy ass bitch, he don't have balls to face Brazil's government. In others opportunities he always collaborates with them.

Maybe. Hard to tell what he’s really thinking. But, getting older does tend to make people think about their legacy.

The best estrategy for Elon is coming to Brazil personaly to the see if Moraes have balls to get him arrested: 1 - If Moraes does: a BIG diplomatical crises. 2 - If doesn't: He have to step back in their decisions.

Svets, I’m with you on this. In my humble opinion Zucks is coming of age. He looks to be attempting to find himself in light of his significant potential to shift his impact in our times. He’s seeing what Elon is doing, and more importantly he knows what Bitcoin is bringing. It’s clear to him the world is changing and he can contribute. I’d love to see him join some of our big hitters on a range of bitcoin pods to discuss social media, freedom tech and sound internet money
