What if Nostr starter packs included recommended content, in addition to follows? For example, a “Bitcoin 101” starter pack could include recommended: - Follows - Articles - Podcasts - Videos Same can be applied to any topic: climbing, surfing, nutrition, etc. Nostr apps that support this would implement slick UX for users who get onboarded onto a new topic like this.

It’s a great idea for the new user to have a better experience but then you create a weird incentive for the nostr influencers to try and get on that list. What if you just optimized the trending feeds more? It’s actually grown on me a lot and helpful during days when I’m too busy to scroll nostr.

Nice idea if your app would even load which it doesnt so 🤷‍♂️
Nostr: Migration & Bridge I’ve started thinking of Nostr adoption in terms of migration and bridges rather than fresh starts. The value of getting-started education, in terms of tech clarity and protocol introductions, is important to know how it works, yes. But, everything else is someone migrating some or all of their existing social tech usage from centralized platforms (where they’ve established real world and online relationships of value) over to the @Damus's and @primal's of the Nostr protocol. Making this a smooth experience that doesn’t let the tech get in the way of the engagement is paramount. Imagine @noStrudel facilitating the migration of content that would otherwise be stranded on other platforms. Imagine @Amethyst porting relationships that would be otherwise abandoned. And imagine any @nostr.build compatible clients offering bridges for your future content to be posted back to those centralized platforms where your relationships remain. The cross-posted content links could even pull people back through a smooth Nostr UI content viewer where it made sense. All of this so that engagement time spent on Nostr actually rippled value elsewhere and made Nostr the obvious center of the social ecosystem. Right now joining Nostr feels like you abandon your own society for another. But, instead we could cross-pollinate engagement, thus attracting users that have not yet migrated and without placing new users into the sort of isolation that happens when you show up to a pre-existing party where you know no one. This “start by Migration & stay because you’re Bridged” solution could be facilitated by a standardized core framework designed to be integrated easily by the many Nostr clients so they didn’t have to scaffold all of the connectivity themselves, and could instead just focus on their own branding and UI/UX connections to the core Migration&Bridge api layers. The results could be connecting new Nostr users to their existing friends like @npub1teaw...gq5u is trying to facilitate, but even better, with in-client cross engagement continuing to facilitate relationships that are otherwise stranded from one another by the protocol divide. Thoughts are welcomed. I’d be willing to work on this with popular Nostr client devs. Let me know if a project planning role would be useful and if you’d like to participate. image
I love the content oriented feed connections at onboarding as-well-as or instead-of profile connections.
I'd be happy to make a TTRPG starter pack for those who use Nostr. I'd have to find peeps who play TTRPGs and post about what they do on Nostr. I'd be happy to play with them as a DM/GM.
My dream for Nostr is that it becomes the best place for high-signal long form content. We’ll do everything we can from Primal to help make that happen, including building better creator tools and other infrastructure. These types of starter packs might play a role. View quoted note →

We could make this 😉 who has to be on it?
Yes at first. But it could become an essential race for npubs to bring their foot into these starter packs. And then who curates this starter pack, who garners the power? The 'management group' of each client? Where and when would the starter packs be introduced to the newbies? What are the criteria? Maybe that's the way it is, centralization, like in traditional social media and the App- and PlayStore? Can't think of a clever alternative from the top of my head right now. Maybe some impartial algorithm?
Forget algorithms that favor big accounts or systems where users game visibility with hashtags. The Starter Pack gives everyone equal exposure through a rotating system. Accounts are shown randomly and tracked by how many impressions they get. Those with fewer views get bumped to the top every hour or day—no follower count needed. To keep it fair and avoid spam, creators can post a limited number of times within a set time frame. Categorization is handled by the system, not users, so there's no bias or favoritism. Everyone gets seen. Simple as that. 🤷🏽
WHAT IF in the starter packs: accounts are automatically tracked by how often they’ve been shown, and those with fewer views move to the top—refreshed hourly or daily. No user tagging, no favoritism. Categories are handled by an algorithm, not people. Limited posting per time frame keeps it bot-resistant and fair. Discovery, without the games.

Just follow that hashtags
Yes. I remember you talking about this. You present it nicely here, but I’m not sure I’m really sold on the idea … of “robo cross posting” content to Nostr “on behalf of” popular accounts from other platforms. I actually see lots to be concerned about. But … it could grow on me also. I remember a year ago I was like “black box apps gonna be the death of Nostr”, cause I couldn’t see an attractor to get them beyond “Nostr login” integration. Now I preach the gospel of “Nostr is for every app … no matter how deep the integration” … which is not what the Nostr purists like to hear. So yea… ima let this one sit and stew for a while. It may have value. 💜
