Back in the day I had to learn it. Extra class here, and GROL.
Can the boy teach me ?
-.-- . ... .-.-.-
That's big boy right there. I still can't copy 20wpm without the decoder as a crutch.
Unlock fast typing on mobile 👀

I think all I had to do was 5wpm ? To get the general class? Then the advanced, then extra.
Nothing was required for the Tech class.
I know it is changed now though.
When I started, Extra was 20wpm. They had just implemented a no-code Tech license, but you couldn't do much more than local repeater stuff and a little slice of 10m.
Now it's just Tech, General, Extra and no code required on any if it.
Okay which one is that so I can get ANOTHER damn keyboard app.
Google. Gboard
Gotcha. yeah it was early 2000’s or maybe late 1990’s when I did mine. Can’t remember.
I got a vanity 2x2 license though.
You can even connect an external switch with accessibility features 👀

You can write in Morse code on your mobile device. Tania’s Story: Morse code meets machine learning
1969, lower Manhattan, WW2 headphones that didn't fit, big noisy echoey room with 20 other hams taking the cw test. Still prefer to SSB. Max was about 45 wpm hearing phrases. Fun times.
Even plans to make an Arduino switch device. Cool.
I never looked into the documentation before, there are some Morse learning tools too

Iambic paddles would go right on there. Hmmmmm....
Shit I'm old. Early '90s for me.
Did you get the General Radio Operator License? GROL
Straight key eh? Not the most popular CW key design these days but cool for a homemade approach.
Im old too, just didn’t do the HAM stuff until a bit after you. I remember bulletin boards to dial up and talk to people online. I had one of the first cell phones in my little town. Lol
No, never did that. Just ham. Getting after it again since the kid expressed an interest. It stopped being a daily thing when phones took over.
I hear you. I haven’t been on the air in a long time.. the new radios with their waterfalls look very interesting though. Have fun with your kid.
Thats some cool stuff right there😊
That key is slick
Thanks for the memories - miss you Granddad.
Crazy that they're still the same after 100 years.
These guys are fun to use camping.

They set a button for each, so it's kind of paddle-ish already. Could be a cool modern trainer.
I'm taking the boy camping at the POW camp!
@hal "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
Trainer I could see. The ergonomics of it made me shudder to look at a bit, but that sort of thing could be addressed without too much work with a 3d printer or even some woodworking I assume.
I have one of these. It's be pretty easy to wire those buttons to it.
