This thread is still popping up in my notifications. Entertaining to see the people recommending that I follow other people and engage more. Mansplaining Nostr to me. image

Nostr suffers terribly by leadership all having gigantic accounts, so that they don't know how dull and lonely and frustrating Nostr can be for the remaining 99,996% of us, down here in the steerage class. Twitter didn't get so big by being 50 Million People Wait for Jack To Post Something

I'm so tired of hearing this stupid reply. It's a nostr slogan said by people who only actually want a bitcoin chatroom.
Ma'am, you see, it's notes and other stuff ๐Ÿ˜‚ I can't... I fully agree with you that we have a discovery problem. We've always had one. I believe it has gotten better though, with follow packs and trending notes. There's a lot of work to be done though regarding interests, algorithms, and WoT.

If you have to constantly explain to people how to use your solution, your solution needs work. That said, there is a learning curve with technology. I did teach businesses how to use Twitter back in 2008 and 2009. More work to do.
I'm the admin of multiple relays and I look at the relay global feed on #Jumble. You can go there and select wss://theforest.nostr1.com ๐ŸŒฒ from the drop-down list. That's what I look at. I also have a local relay that pulls in notes over a whitelist, and I look at that. I relay-whitelist people, instead of event-following them. My follows list is just free marketing for my friends' npubs, and a way to confirm my alts.
For normal people, following people and interacting is how we use Nostr. Even for the so called "influencers" on here most have a pretty high following count and interact with other people rather than just posting content and accepting money from ad revenue like it were intergram etc. There's like a whole community building aspect to it you don't find anywhere else outside of niche forums anymore.
Glad this method works for you. But if that's the case why do you care about how many people are following you? Surely your notes are being seen by others like yourself using similar methods anyway?
1) It's a reliable proxy-statistic for Nostr's growth. When Nostr's userbase expands rapidly, everyone's follow count noticeably goes up, even mine. That hasn't happened in months. 2) Newer arrivals aren't Advanced Nostr-ing, like that. Hardly anyone is. They only use follows, to build their feed. They get onboarded with a preset recommendation list and it mostly just stays like that, so those lists determine everyone's feed. 3) My not being on the recommended list, but regularly trending, leads to the weird situation that lots of npubs think they're following me, that actually aren't. I just seem to drop out of their feed, for days or weeks at a time, so they can't see what I write. And so on. Follows is a whole politikum.
Well, if you're complaining, and there's a difference that obvious between your profile and others you're comparing with, I don't think it's unreasonable/surprising that some people point it out in case it's a genuine blindspot.
You forgot 'there is no algorithm here to spoon-feed you' Said by the guy who is totally happy that nostr is bitcointwitter2 and has absolutely no other interests except the price of bitcoin.
