Here’s the real #mesh ! No flaky BLE or #nostr hype. #Meshtastic and #Reticulum deliver true decentralized, off grid, long-range connectivity for devices in the wild. #Bitchat could bridge to real mesh but chose nostr 2.0 hype train, staying a pseudo-mesh pretender! image

BLE is insecure and has a limited range of 10 meters. It is not being used on bitchat, as most users prefer geohash-based nostr relays, which may compromise privacy by exposing location data and needs internet lol 🤷‍♂️
I used bitchat at Cripto latin fest with a bunch of other people. It is cool I guess if you're within like twenty feet of someone but beyond that it is totally useless. Reticulum is very interesting.
I won't do more than casually look at it unless/until it becomes the bridge, as you mention. That's the potential but unless it gets there it isn't worth my time as a potential user.
I hope you put up a video showing the range distance from where you leave one of those & show multiple people in range using mesh. I know it says offline but people need to see that. Shows on video wifi off airplane mode on & how it works.
It is a radio communication channel. When you encrypt data, BLE is secure like any other way to pass messages. Other than that fully agree with you. People want comfort, whenever internet is available then that is preferred option.
Forgot to say, please keep up the good work. Will be looking forward to see how this project moves forward.
Yeah, haha, kind of my point. I was at Cripto latin fest, a conference in Medellin and like ten of us were using it but bluetooth's range is super short. It was cool I guess to not have to shout across a crowded room, but it was super easy to get disconnected from the group chat, and was more of a novelty than actually useful.
Bitchat I don't know. For geogram it is used for sneakernet messages without need for interaction between the two phones. When phones are in the reach of each other they will sync messages that are intended for other people. The other usage are warnings. Whenever arriving to an area with a phone acting as server you can read news and warnings.
The people who'd use reticulum on the field understand why these use cases matter. LoRa is OK but a fancy tech. BLE is simply there on each cheap android device.
Lora is cheaper than android devices lol You can get it for $20 and the range will be few miles. Also it uses AES256-CTR for encrypting channels. Much more reliable.
You can use AES256 with BLE too, that is possible through reticulum. Those who use this tech know that logistics are the first thing to disappear. It's not about the price today, you simply can't buy it during collapse or emergencies whereas androids you'll scavenge them anywhere
“You can use it through reticulum” but bitchat doesn’t lol that’s the whole point of conversation. Also as I mentioned before it’s pointless to use mesh over BLE when the person is 10 ft away from you!
I don't care for bitchat, just to mention that BLE isn't restrained by those limitations and there are good use scenarios for BLE or local chat within an house or building.
It's just another option. Bitchat BLE isnt limited just to 20m. A large protest surpresed by the government where they cut the communications, BLE could be a way to coordinate the protest further because as far as I understand it, everyone ble device with Bitchat can act as a router to the next one creating a mesh.
My ble can’t even brake a beton in apartment lol Also you can kill ble signal during the protests very easy! So I don’t think that it would be helpful if the govt wants to kill it in the area
I can see bitchat useful if they will make it all in one app by adding bridges to the meshtastic and meshcore. Other than that I don’t need an extra nostr app
