Ewwwwwwwwwww grosssssssss
It’s true but people aren’t ready for it
I did say it was a hard pill to swallow. You’ll figure it out eventually.
There is no “risk” in running a lightning node, risk makes it sound that there is a chance …. It’s a hard fact reality that you lose waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more sats running a node. 🤣🤣 that’s a 100% guarantee.
There absolutely is risk.
Well, I'm not taking it as a suppository!
The risk is 100% 🤣
At the point you need a suppository you are unable to make the decision for yourself. It will just happen, lol
I'd say that depends on the person and the scenario. Both have risks since they're both hot wallets. I'm coming up on 5 years running a node later this year and I haven't lost any sats. I think my WoS has 1 sat in it that I can't get out though 😂
People recommending newbs use Phoenix/Zeus/anything else mean well but they're not being helpful
True haha but they’re not actually our sats… and I’m grateful for all of the sats they’ve lost while learning haha
Sure. I use multiple wallets. My zaps have been set to Strike, a custodial wallet, for 6 months because I got tired of my router going down and breaking my custom setup for non-custodial zaps. I still send zaps from my node. I receive zaps to Strike and withdrawal to my node when applicable.
Exactly. I do something similar using self custody lightning wallet apps. You use the broader suite of tools/apps available on the lightning network. That’s a good medium to long term goal for educating people, but I don’t imagine you would try to onboard random new nostr users directly to such a complex setup/workflow where they need to understand channels, liquidity, LNURL, etc. lol
Truth

WoS still banned in the US?
As someone whos at least been running a node for years, I can confirm this is true in my experience
Self banned, but "yes".
I wonder why they won't release.
It made sense when Gensler was around but, after Trump pump, surely WoS should make a return.
Self-custodial isn't a problem if only spending money is put in the lightning wallet. Fewer sats to lose.
What do you do with your Bitcoin? Do you spend it? If so, where?
Of course. A lightning node operator is a money transmitter. It is taking the law time to catch up to that. But anytime a person or business handles someone elses money, a license is needed.
Sounds like a 3 ring circus.
well it depends if they are running the node themselves or with a third party. I think it's some guy at an agency, but he could be 'part of' the service. In that case, PnP is licensed. It's a valiant effort.
Government not bothered because tax is already include in the final price of goods sold, so they are taking their tax on it. Maybe income tax, but that's up to PnP to handle,
oh sorry, nvm, they are well in debt and I think loss making? so that would abscond them from certain taxations lol
shit show fundamentals company run into the ground by useless c-suite. I prefer shoprite holdings, but the whole retail space is mafioso
Either way, the LN node op is a money transmitter. When enforcement kicks in, the first thing that will happen is that Lightning will be 100% custodial.
Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins.
it's an entire side chain though, so idk about custodial -
mostly hodl, but since bitcoin is money, i spend and replace too. mostly when i travel to conferences or buying items and services from fellow nostriches.
This is exactly what im trying to say... self custodied lightning nodes are not FAKE&GAY™ approved.
That's why I recommend Ecash wallets for noobs
"Fewer sats?" Way to self own. HFSP! 😏😉
Reading comprehension is not your strong point I see.
As well as your freedom and privacy. Your BTC is now as cool as your Paypal account. Yay!

Lightning? It's 99% custodial.
the sats never touch the mainet chain until the channel is closed off.
So you're just carrying the sats around until it closes. I still wonder if it's a 1:1 in out or if there's more sats, or ghost 'sats' in the system.
Still waiting to hear what happens to the sats when a channel is force closed
I imagine they have decent lawyers. And even the decent ones are slow. And all are cautious.
The only lawyer they need

@npub1gce3...vxdk noooooooooooooooo
If you don't force normal people to learn a new technology to begin with the adoption rate would be higher for nostr. The hard to swallow pill is bitcoin and lightning are harming nostr more than helping now. Bluesky is your example have fun.
Surely youve had some force-closed channels! Id count that under sats wasted
The whole concept of LN is to create consistently spendable monies with lower fees.
Meaning you're supposed to connect to nodes you are trying to pay monies to consistently.
Routing payments & just connecting to a bunch of retards' nodes was never the main objective for end users.
Doing this for the sake of adding LN capacity is an *altruistic* pursuit - which in life usually means willing to pay monies out for said pursuit.
Yes.
This was a hard pill to swallow.
Unfortunately it was up the ass medicine.
So whatever you use must work better than anything else?
