500 Follower Celebration! Firstly, Id like to show some gratitude towards a few fellow bitcoiners here on Nostr that really continue to inspire me. 🍻 Today I gave up a 17year account on Reddit in celebratory sacrifice. I will no longer post on reddit again. So Im old enough to remember when β€œslashdot effect” was a thing and thinking Digg was going to be what reddit became… Anybody remember Digg? Fuck im old… In any event I love you guys. Consider this a β€œzapathon” -Any new follows, reposts, or thoughtful comments are getting a 3 digit zap. Please repost or boost ⚑️⚑️

17 years on Reddit!? Thank you for your sacrifice 😁 Please give #Minestr a go if you're interested πŸ™
Congratulations! I don’t have anything meaningful to add, just really well done. I’m now 100% Twitter and Meta free (no FB, Instagram, Threads, or WhatsApp). Reddit and LinkedIn are the two proprietary social media services I still haven’t managed to drop. Lemmy (ActivityPub-based) is nice, but Reddit still has a lot of useful content I can’t find anywhere else.

STAY HUMBLE AND STACK ZAPS (seems more appropriate for this post where you're going nostr only now)

You and I have some things in common. We should connect sometimes.
Reddit is so noisy with bots, NPC’s, and echo chamber libtards that its barely functional. πŸ§‘πŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ₯©
The game I posted above is called Legend of the Red Dragon (called LORD by BBSers) and was one of the first "multi-player" games. You'd dial into your local (usually) BBS and you'd get a set amount of time you could play -- usually no more than 30 minutes since if you were playing, that means you tied up their only (likely) phone line. There were some other popular door games but this one was by far the most popular. BBSes were the Internet before the public had the Internet via Compuserve, AOL, etc. Usually the board owners would subscribe to various syndicated networks, a popular one was called FidoNET, where they would themselves dial into another BBS and download all of the latest network posts. Boards all across the world would dial into each other, do this, and thus replicate the network. If you got into a deep conversation with someone around the world, sometimes it would literally go on for months due to syndication aspect. This is why us old heads died from dysentery. LOL! #iykyk
kudos! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ₯‚πŸ₯‚πŸ₯‚πŸ₯‚ well done! Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to get 500? I am asking because I just had a thread about this last night. I realised I did not have some reference point to help me understand nostr's reach. Do you post every day? Ty ☺️
3 weeks or so. I try to post in my breaks usually a bit everyday. Im semi retired so I have a fair bit of free time now that my boys are grown. The Most traction you will get will be when you are first to reply in a BIG users thread that looks interesting. Those threads get a ton of views and if you are adding value, people will follow you. Focus on the big users ypu really like. Interact with everyone in those threads and make friends! β˜•οΈ πŸ§‘πŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ₯©
Also a lot of users on Nostr disengage and don’t interact. In fact retention is close to 1%. Focus your energy on the active users. Some of the big accounts have 120k followers but if they post, only get a few thousand views since most are dormant.

Congratulations! I had a quick look at your profile, nice to meet a fellow Bitcoiner πŸ€— I have recently joined Nostr. Like the positive vibe. Gave you a follow!
Thanks bro 🀝 And thanks for the zaps! I am posting about #Bitcoin only. I am following a bunch of people currently, and some obviously post better content than others. Do you perhaps know an easy way to track the top ones? Currently, I just type them in the search bar, but there must be an easier way.
Congrats on the 500! πŸŽ‰ Giving up a 17year Reddit account is a big move – respect! I definitely remember Digg, those were the days. Excited to see more of your posts here!

Had the same with facebook and whatsapp, never missed it for a second
I see the retention as well. What about a view or impressions for a particular note you mention? Or is this something out of your head?
Back in the day when the internet was much less robust, a popular user ( slashdot.org) would make a post about a website and crash it. image
Thank you β€”And yes, the interactions here are certainly more genuine. Im excited to put energy into this platform because it’s more important than ever. πŸ§‘πŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

It's exciting to see organic growth happen on platforms without algorithms.. where information is distributed with PoW
I started using Alby a day ago and I don’t think I have the right setup. I’m hoping to get it fixed before the weekend.
Started on Damus and when they lost their ⚑️ I tried Primal. Not quite sure how but I clearly didn’t set up Alby just right to get zaps in….but my Primal wallet out works so thats good. I ended up just trying to reverse everything until I can figure out the Alby and Start9 configuration but I won’t have time this weekend to figure it out. TY for looking out Iggy!
