I really don't understand bitcoiners who aren't interested in Nostr.
I get that not everyone is trying to build an audience, and that money is a more pressing thing to be an early adopter for, but the "Why would I need Nostr? I'm perfectly comfortable with X" narrative sounds like a no-coiner justifying their 0% bitcoin exposure.
It especially hits weird from bitcoin content creators, when it's clear that the hardcore, motivated bitcoiners are moving towards Nostr and not going back. Nostr is the clear and obvious future forum of bitcoin discussion, and you're just ignoring it?
Am I too deep in the weeds here? It seems so obvious to me. Do they really just not see it?

I also don't understand this. I suppose maybe it's the dopamine hits from having a large following on legacy platforms? Or because "there's more reach"?
Don't know, but coming to Nostr is part of walking the walk, if you're gonna say how important freedom tech and open protocols are. Makes you wonder where people's true motivation lies
It is hard to create a new platform in this day and age... So many have come and gone. Some had great promise only to be lost in partisan politics.
I am hoping noster can last, but I also need to be able to be who I am and not be shut out.
Remembering that Bitcoin is 17 helps me to attempt understanding. Seems appropriate all the teenage things of growing into an adult are taking place right now. Meaning #bitcoin is still finding its place in the world: this includes social media for some.
In the past I asked others where their morals are if they support X. I’m not the most tactful sometimes but they were my friends.
This hits hard. I need Linux 🫂🤙
I get staying on x, but positioning yourself as anti Nostr or just generally mad about it is something I see way more than I'd expect
Well said.
Other platforms have more reach and you definitely need to be there too in this case, but cross posting ain't that hard
Still feeling my way around, will be starting up my own relay soon, building stacks for zaps, listening and learning....
Need to get my social media mojo back.
Humans always human. Almost nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe I’m jaded 🤣
Bitcoin doesn't succeed, FIAT is failling.
Nostr will not succeed, legacy social medias will fail.
I think it's perfectly understandable that some people like talking to lots of people, and that talking to far fewer people would make them sad.
Chicken/egg problem. Influencers want a larger installed audience before moving, but the audience won’t be driven to move until there is more action here.
Personally I like the relative quiet and intimacy that Nostr offers and will be sad when it outgrows this phase, but I understand it can’t be like this forever if the goal is to render Twitter irrelevant.
the peak value time to go hard on nostr has yet to be reached.
If you go hard now youre going to benefit from adopting earlier, but you have to wait longer for the big rewards to come
The real reason to be early is to start establishing a record of yourself, if who you are matters. Nostr allows me to keep facts and proof available to discredit people who lie about my public positions or stuff like that.
After being banned from places like facebook and reddit without having good backups, I notice the importance of this
Yeah, I do get it if someone’s income or business depends on some degree of Twitter engagement…but it seems like at a minimum, influencers wanting to move but holding out could start posting first to Nostr and then elsewhere a few days later where the post won’t inherently be stale if delayed (eg reacting to breaking news).
Incentivize dedicated followers to move.
Yeah haha I would’ve thought so too. But I think people prefer to copy others success rather than carve out their own.
I guess that’s why new bitcoiners often enter the market on a high, not a dip..
Nostr doesn't have Ngu
You're gonna crush it sir 💪
It's a difference between the desire to talk to lost of people who each are less powerful on average and to talk to a few highly motivated and action oriented people on Nostr
Each has value and it's not much more effort to do both
Human nature
Just seems obvious to at least cross post here as a bitcoiner
Very true! Part of why I'm here and not there. 😎
💭 Some bitcoiners treat Nostr the same way nocoiners treat Bitcoin comfortable in the old system, skeptical of the new one that actually fixes the problems they complain about.
If you’re a creator relying on X, you’re basically building your house on rented land. Nostr is the first place where your audience, your identity, and your content are actually yours. That’s why the hardcore bitcoiners aren’t “trying it,” they’re migrating and not looking back.
It’s not about clout. It’s not about being early. It’s about opting into the protocol layer instead of the platform layer. If you can see what Bitcoin fixes, it’s wild to me that you don’t know what Nostr fixes.
Maybe that sounds “deep in the weeds,” but honestly?
The weeds are where the signal is. And Nostr is pure signal.
We're on the right path 🫡
Is this ai?
Satoshiii ✌️😅
It helps to spot who came for the money not the technology
Addiction to noice perhaps.
👨🚀
Or one day they bring their followers here. Once they discover opportunities and experience enough pain and time that has been wasted on x.
Yeah.. It’ll catch at some point I imagine. Hopefully the push in some countries for social media to require ID or be linked to a government registration, will actually push nostr uptake closer to a tipping point.
In my circles I’d never known of anyone to make the switch to nostr before, but now I know people who are talking about it. And they’re not bitcoiners. Sometimes you just need a slap from the system to wake you up
It might be that they didn't use it enough to "get it", @Max said it best, using X and other legacy social media show you stuff based on an algorithm but nostr has Bitcoin payments behind it so it shows you what you would like. "And so we build a way to send and receive Bitcoin so that your friends see what's the stuff that you like. And that's a social signal that's not just likes and reposts but a real monetary cost of, hey, I value this thing. And @Gigi has the perfect line of, you wouldn't zap a car crash. Car crashes are something you just have to look at when it happens. You don't really want to see it, but your attention is drawn to it. You're somewhat tricked by your brain to actually look at it. But you wouldn't send money to it for how great it is. so we have a car crash economy in our attention seeking in the legacy social media that makes you see stuff that you don't really want to see but you're forced to look at it because the algorithm chooses to maximize for your attention and in nostr we can simply make that obsolete" from @Efrat Fenigson podcast. I had never thought of it before but yeah some people believe more noise IS more relevant unfortunately.
Yeah, Nostr is pretty nuts.
Problem is the diversity of thought here feels small. Good Bitcoin content but not much else
Could be if nostr gets to 100k daily actives in the next little while and retains a bitcoin focus we'll start to see some crossposting. But that's quite a big ask.
True
Started the relay, didn't quite do what I wanted it to but it is running woooo hoooooo
Now to start adding goodies to it.
It IS that deep and that is the problem. Bitcoin is everything people don't get about computers and money. Nostr is everything people don't get about algorithms and hidden incentives and social engineering...AND you have to get bitcoin first (or something like that). Most people are too broke and exhausted to even try to figure out bitcoin. Its nearly impossible for me to get my friends to use a more private messaging app because they don't get the PRINCIPLE. Then try to get them to reject their dopamine addiction to a social media platform they have used since they were 12 for something that doesnt hijack their reward system...that just a few weirdos use to talk about solutions to problems they have never thought about? Tough sell.
cross posting is not a big undertaking and we already see it today
Depends how you see it.
These days social is just as much about replies as posts, and you can't 'cross reply'. You have to manage two separate reply workloads. That can get heavy.
And, as that meme guy Corndalorian has written PhD-thesis length posts about, if you're active on nostr you have to be active in a nostr-native way or else don't bother. Why take the heat? Look at all those that came, tried to cross post, and then noped on out.
And third the quality of interaction here is only good in patches. Often it's pretty low, a barrage of LFG!, or Be Humble®, or laser-eye memes, or parroting this trend or that, not real debate at all. (Or just the void.) Gotta be a bit careful when we talk up the quality of interaction here versus X.
Plus, as mentioned, there are so few people here. Bluesky is tiny, and nostr is over 100 times smaller than Bluesky. It's hard to express how small of a group we are in terms of being a "network".
I'm thinking it's on nostr to find ways to grow that don't rely on shipping in these thought-leader types.
There's value in just having a presence
Net negatives are a real thing.
X has a long track record in terms of network effect and for some people, it matters a lot to be seen there.
it’s short bitcoin energy all the way down
Enquiring minds will always go deeper.
Bunch of larpers out there
That is the one thing that has killed numourus SM platforms this past 10 or so. They became to niche and self serving
That said, I joined nostr last week, I already am getting the same feelings as twitter in the first few years. I am finding my voice again without fear of being shut down. I have found some interest groups that are not pure Bitcoin (or even sats). I never was about chasing the followers (I follow/followed by about 500 on twitter) so maybe that is the difference I don't know
I just installed a relay that I am still configuring, looking into some of the use cases, etc. It is not all that hard but yes it is not easy to find YOUR nosters....
Those other platforms are brainwashing and extraction centers.
I think the great G Edward Griffin, Author of The Creature from Jekyll Island says it best:
money and chat are two comunication forms, they both need and free medium. the difference is money need wide consensus and standard to be useful. everyone have to agree on the same money. so bitcoin is the standard.
nostr is nice but not needed to be a standard everyone agree.
some people may comunicate using others protocols and auth systems and be fine.
Not saying everything else is bad
Saying the lack of curiosity is curious
Agree. Strange. Especially since Nostr and Bitcoin are integrating free speech and money thus also being free market place.
Not all people who use bitcoin are bitcoiners
almost every bitcoiner I know tried nostr.
it is simply not needed or urgent. they know it is here, they know it will be here when needed.
there is a big opportunity to steal contents and crosspost on nostr.
I'm not an expert but you can crosspost all your favorite influencers from X, reddit, telegram, mIRC, and gain followers without work ;)
I tried nostr when all the hype was around a few years ago and it was terrible. I finally came back via @primal and it’s totally different. I think if bitcoiners tried it now they would have a different perspective.
Many stuck in the past
Change is hard
I know there are reasons for purists to not recommend Primal but I think all-in-one options like it are important because the less centralized options can sometimes feel like renting a car by the component part.
Dopamine is a helluva drug
I can only assume many come in, take a peek at global (because their feed is otherwise empty), characterize Nostr based on whatever first 20-50 notes they see, and write it off.
Everyone gets Nostr at the earliness they deserve.
testing zaps for this note… we made six attempts to⚡zap this note, at qttamxf1ze@lnmarkets.com, over a period of about 2 hours. six of the zaps were successfully paid... please check for 6 satoshis received. problem: we found that your lightning address server **did not* properly produce zap receipts, and/or didn't send the zap receipts to the relays specified in the zap. (the zap spec requires that the zap receipts be sent to the relays specified in the zap.) this means a nostr user who zaps you might not see a number appearing next to the ⚡ icon after zapping.... if you wanted to fix this... you could try getting a free rizful lightning address --
... if u get it set up, pls reply here so we can do this ⚡zap test again.

Rizful: Lightning Services
Free Lightning vaults, and instant, disposable Lightning Nodes.
sadly your server ask for private informations like email, and do not allow temporary or anonimous mail. you are not nice trying to sniff users.
please don't spam me, I'm not here dancing in the street for pennies
I think that they are not in it for the revolution. At least not yet. Come for the greed, stay for the revolution. Be the change you want to see in the world. Et cetera. Et cetera. All these great sayings... You just do it, or then you won’t. I have shitloads of respect for everyone who has resisted the temptation of being Daddy Elon Musk’s sugarbabe – no matter what kind of a reach or an audience he can give them.
"and do not allow temporary or anonimous mail" -- please see the faq directly on our home page: "Please note that you MAY use a privacy-preserving email service, or a "hide my email" feature (like on iOS) when signing up for Rizful."
Not sure if Gigi's analogy holds. People definitely pay a lot of money so they can see car crashes.
Various videogames which are all about triggering spectacular crashes were big hits in the 90s.
People also love car chases in ever action movie ever made and the car scenes in MadMax are legendary.
I get what he means, though.
add an option to get a nostr able lnaddress signing in using npub/nsec what is the problem? why emails? I don't need email if I have nostr.
Don't force me to have an email. I only use Nostr — accept it or not, but if you don't, you'll have one less user.
This is a point on which NO Nostr user should ever compromise.
This is what the guy who organizes bitcoin meetups in my area says about Nostr. Do you feel the same way?
What people from local Bitcoin meetups say about #Nostr:
"I think nostr is great for things like bitdevs where it’s a small, in-the-know group who really just needs to know the date of an event they are already aware of conceptually
For finding new people and creating awareness, it’s no good.
Meetup sux too but for now it’s the tallest midget in the room."
Tell me You don't Agree

Everyone i personally know who isn't paying to nostr doesn't really care about circulation of bitcoin, and only is here for the NGU or paper bitcoin. I haven't met any IRL people in meetups in the last few years that have been worth connecting to, its been more of an extractive than mutually beneficial exchange.
I disagree with the praise many give to "big visibility" platforms like X and Meetup.com, mostly because these are algorithmically driven sales cesspools that want people to stay addicted to and aren't organic experiences
but, its their decision what to choose how to spend their time and money.
Spend your time with Trash and you will end up becoming Trash
I look for quality of Signal and minimization of Noise.
That Signal is obviously clear on Nostr and its not just tech folks, its all types.
My Time is Precious.
I have no time for a 1-way extractive relationship; unproductive low signal is present in most of mainstream media and meetup groups off nostr.
So I have no qualms just cutting them out of my circle. And IDGAF what they think either.
