my only goal with wisp is to make people like nostr and have it not feel so slow and broken

Personally, I think I did my part. I hadn't been thrilled with Nostr for months, then you came along with Wisp.
Nostr is the best
thank you for your advocacy and feedback, you shaped the app for sure
When do iPhone users get it?ππ€£
That mission resonates a lot. The biggest unlock for Nostr is clients that feel fast, forgiving and fun so people forget there is a protocol underneath. If Wisp nails the snappy scrolling and clear error states, it will quietly become the app folks recommend to their non technical friends.
when they grow some balls and bin that paperweight nonsense device π€
Is this some kind of enlightenment metaphor
Sorry but android is a fragmented ecosystem where all the apps only work if you have one of the "flagship" model phonesβ¦
If you donβt pretty much nothing works lol
At least iPhones come with better default security, privacy and a full functioning ecosystemβ¦
Primal seems fine.
Of fuck you just pissed him off, everybody run heβs coming
could make the same argument for windows vs Linux ππΈ
Agreed
no ios sorry fren πΈ
You have no idea the respect you just gained from me. ;)
I'm really impressed so far, it's almost like Amethyst lite. Keeps most the functionality but in a less convoluted way. I like the power user aspect of Amethyst but what Wisp does keep it's packaged in an simplified, intuitive way.
It's familiar enough for me to not feel like a jarring client switch and more like slipping into a snappier version of something I already know. Great UI layout.
The best part is I don't have to settle for one or the other. It has been a good two days Wisping around though. π«‘
In my view a major issue with nostr has been most of the people building on it either haven't or didn't care what real people want.
Now that the barrier to entry has been massively lowered people with the best taste and judgement can become builders rather than only those with technical skill. I'm hoping that with that some of nostr's biggest problems can be addressed.
All I heard was zap harder. BTW sick zap animation.
Is wisp compatible with iOS communication devices?
If by fine you mean deathly slow, then yes. Fine.
honestly not sure on that oneβnever tried wisp on iOS myself. what're you trying to do with it?
Use it on iOS.
exactly my feeling!
security and privacy and iphone in the same sentence
oh noes

Basic iPhone is better then basic android π€·π»ββοΈ
Those of us laughing at iPhone users who laud so-called privacy and security are not using basic Android π
I wonβt disagree with thatβ¦
Happy to assist with Graphene OS if you ever need it
About the only assistance I need is if someone wanted to donate a high-end android phone to meβ¦ lolβ¦ but Iβll keep you in mind if one falls in my lap!
You can literally buy a Pixel 8 for around $200 or so on eBay or Swappa
It's what I do.
Never heard of swappa lol
π€£
I heard that apps like Google Maps and uber donβt work on graphene
π€·π»ββοΈ I have no ideaβ¦

Get back in line, with the rest of us. I like my expensive walled garden without complaints. Frankly ser your fake out rage is ruining this wonderful afternoon.

its very cool.
surprisingly fast!
thank you!
couple of weeks I hope
When will we see #wisp on the google #playstore?
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=wisp&c=apps
looking forward to use it then
seems quite exciting
You can enable Play Services and install them and use them, but why bother using a DeGoogled phone at that point?
I use the OsmAnd~ (OpenStreetMap Android) navigation app, which navigates great, but it doesn't look up addresses very well.
To look up addresses on Graphene I use an app called GMaps WV, which sandboxes the browser version of Google Maps, from which I can send the coordinates to OsmAnd~.
That keeps Google from tracking my every move through the Google's Nav App.
Swappa is the bomb.
Yes they do.
I use a separate profile for Maps, and a different one for banking (I only ever need it to deposit checks, which I can't do on PC and I do all my other banking on PC)
It's a pretty neat feature called Sandboxed Google Play
Built into GrapheneOS, it lets you run Google apps (like banking apps or Google Maps) while keeping your phoneβs strong privacy protections. Instead of giving Google Play Services full access to your phone, GrapheneOS runs it inside a regular app sandbox just like any other app, but with no permissions AND you don't have to be logged into Google AT ALL. In fact, it's an anon sign-in that's automatic. It never even asks you.
Google Play Services only gets minimal system access it needs (like checking device integrity for banks).
It's a walled-in scope this way, so it cannot see what other apps are doing, or see any of your personal data.
Good to know. I have only seen it, never used it.
Have you ever gotten a seller (or buyer) to use BTC for their transaction?
Agreed on avoiding google play services (iirc it's a semi-anon system?)
I would say though, OSMAnd is terrible for me on an older device. Search basically doesn't work at all, I usually attempt to scroll the map till I find a place I recognze then drop a pin if I have to use it. Locks up often, navigation info disappears often, no alternate route user selection, an bad recalculation if at all when you miss an exit ramp. There are billion settings, so Id imagine some of these issues are fixable, but out of the box it's a terrible experience in comparison.
The best option for local navigation i've used is HEREWeGo. It's online only, and also has issues with recalculations if you find yourself in rural areas often like me. Way better on battery though, navigation is first class, and search works similar to old GoogleMaps. You can actually search places like food and see open hours etc.
Organic maps is fine for trails and stuff, but driving navigation is also nearly useless for similar reasons to OSMAnd.
OsmAnd navigates great now. The latest updates as of about a year ago improve the experience a lot.
I even have it pulling Google Map's real-time traffic condition tiles so can see where traffic is backed up.
If a house has its address entered into OpenStreetMap, OsmAnd tends to find it now, but most house addresses aren't in the database, so like I said, I use GMaps WV to look up addresses and then send the GPS coordinates to OsmAnd.
I still use it when I have to (areas without cell service), but for me the experience has been much worse in the past year to so. Maybe I should try removing it again and reinstalling it. How are you able to select alternate routes? That's a big deal for me. I need to be able to select a specific rout without having to trace the whole damn route out. I also find it's really sticky to that route. If I miss a turn it would rather have me go 20 miles out of the way to get back on the route, rather than route from the next exit for example or take back roads.
I never use alternate routes. It routes shortest, and that works for me.
Sandboxed Google Play is confusing because like you asked, why bother using a de-googled phone? Well, it's still degoogled when using sandboxed mode:
Built into GrapheneOS, Sandboxed Google Play lets you run Google apps (like banking apps or Google Maps) while keeping your phoneβs strong privacy protections. Instead of giving Google Play Services full access to your phone, GrapheneOS runs it inside a regular app just like any other app, but it's sandboxing means it's in a separate profile with no permissions and no other apps, AND you don't have to be logged into Google AT ALL. In fact, it's an anon sign-in that's automatic. It never even asks you.
Google Play Services only gets minimal system access it needs (like checking device integrity for banks). It's a walled-in scope this way, so it cannot see what other apps are doing, or see any of your personal data.
Canβt you just sandbox Google Maps and avoid the headache entirely?
Heard about this and seems great. Not sure why people complain about graphene.
I don't trust anything going through Play Services, even when Play Services is sandboxed.
Plus someone needs to use the alternatives one a daily basis to figure out how to get things done practically and give feedback on what needs to be improved.
OsmAnd~ is a really good nav app.
Why donβt you trust it when itβs sandboxed?
It takes a few minutes to set up, but once you have done it, it's fairly straightforward to repeat as needed.
I think the people who are unsure about it have not yet used it. I was one of them and it took me awhile to grasp how to do it and until I did, I was anxious about losing my "favorite apps". Either 1) Reducing dependence on "needed" (re: wanted) apps and/or finding FOSS/secure private alternatives, or 2) Keeping them but learning to secure them, is key.
My bank works without Google.
My nav app works without Google.
I don't need Google.
seenβ ditched Google Maps for OsmAnd last year and haven't looked back. what made you finally make the jump?
I don't either. I was answering your question about how can sandboxed work if a phone is de-Googled.
Ah .. yes. I understand all that.
