This latest "narrative" from Trump's circle about "buying" Greenland or even having Canada "join" the US... I want to think most people promoting it, first of all Trump and Trump Jr, are doing it for the LOLs and to cause righteous indignation among the pearl-clutchers.
Because I have never heard anything more completely delusional and retarded, and the amount of retardedness plaguing the rank and file of the MAGA movement is not precisely short.
For so many reasons, from the practical and political impossibility of "buying" a territory in the 21st century, to the fact that it's a barren dead rock with no natural resources of any type and unable to sustain any population, it is quite difficult to be more retarded than that.
Even if the touted "rare mineral deposits" exist, those would only add to the impossibility -- why would they give away independence (assuming they even decide to materialize the self-determination right that Denmark gave them, and become a sovereign state to begin with), when they can simply mine, or give concessions to foreign companies to mine (and profiting massively from the bids)?
The Canada thing doesn't even merit comment.
I think this is simply a crudely made up distraction from the whole HB1/immigration fiasco of the past couple of weeks.

Seems to be many reasons to have Canada join - shared resources, defense, access to natural resources, population redistribution to name a few 🤷♂️
Of course. Even more would apply to Mexico, and to a United World.
And in my opinion: a whole massive bunch of even more powerful reasons would apply to the complete dismantling of the US (and Canada, and Mexico, and all the rest), into small community-level sovereign territorial entities...
It's never for a lack of "reasons"...
It would be interesting to see what Canada/Canadians would do/say if the US pulled its military protection and stopped buying Canadian goods full stop.
Canadians are self-righteous, and like to think they “are better” than American. They have no military, no means of defense from an arctic threat from China/Russia, and no infrastructure to sells its oil/gas to any major nation other than the US.
Could this change? Of course, but it would require years to implement, and they are so deep in debt, on an individual, provincial, and national level that it would require a shit ton of foreign investment…….Canada’s cooked.
Trump knows it, the rest of the world knows, and Canadians may be finally waking up to it.
What strategic advantage is there to join with Mexico? We don’t have that many threats down there?
Canada makes more sense geographically speaking.
What if the US is the threat to Canada and removing military support and purchasing freed Canada to join BRICS and get military and purchasing support from China and Russia and suddenly the U.S. had a BRICS nation on it's border?
Oh no wait, that's Ukraine, sorry I was getting confused.
I live in Newfoundland, the (current) most eastern point of North America. We did not “join” Canada until 1949. Many people don’t know this, but the US spent 100 million (in the 1940s!) building bases here as the eastern front of “protecting the western hemisphere”. Seems like people are forgetting the us military build up here during war times.
Nailed it. 90% of the people I’m surrounded by are hard core blue team. And just yesterday (after I’d heard the Canada/Greenland news) they all started repeating it and how crazy Trump is. And I couldn’t help feel like they were taking it a bit too seriously. What a strange creature; he’s like a Chaos Engine. But I’m beginning to wonder if it has a weird shock value cleansing effect? 🤷♂️
Hypocrisy would rear its head I suspect
My father in law, a retired doctor, took an oath to hypocrisy 😂
I'm all for shock value, and precisely that's one of the main virtues I have always found in Trump.
My point was:
The pearl clutchers exist among the Democrats, and they come in two flavors: the intelligent ones who "go along" with the joke and use it to agitate against Trump knowingly, and the autistic and low-IQ ones who take it literally and truly believe the first ones (and Trump).
The question is, it's exactly the same among the MAGA movement. The leaders are just having fun and agitating to distract from the internal rift that quite a trivial issue like the HB1 visa conversation unmasked, but a large number of the base members seem to be taking it literally and truly believing something that is absolutely preposterous and idiotic, like nations giving up their sovereignty and allowing the US to annex them and own their resources just because.
I don't trust the science, either
Yeh, I only trust politicians 😂
Of course. And their three word slogans. DON'T FUCK MONKEYS is a good one
According to What3Words, that’s in the centre of the Chamber of the House of Lords 😂

The simplest way to talk about location
The simplest way to talk about location
Every 3 metre square has a unique 3 word address.
Hardly surprising. I'll ask a friend of mine, he works there
Your friend works in the house of Lords.
Now who's all lardy dardy 😂
One does one's best, don't you know
Wot ho
I help out at a charity that my friend helps out to. He's a life peer, so not a real one!
Wouldn't you prefer to control a southern border that's only 600-ish miles (Guatemala and Belize), instead of 2000+ (currently with Mexico), and be able to erase the cartel problem forever? Isn't that and human trafficking some of the biggest REAL problems the US has?
Plus you get, REAL, not theoretical, natural resources: gas, oil, land for cattle and to farm infinite agricultural products from a variety of climates, not to mention thousands and thousands of additional coastline and access to fisheries. And 130 million new citizens/consumers. "Demographic crisis" solved.
I sold a classic car I owned during lockdown to a Lord, but not a real one, one of those titles that you can buy off the Internet.
My Dad wasn't a lord or anything, but he advised government a lot and was regional chairman of the CBI with Digby Jones, so spent quite a lot of time in the house of lords and commons, so I know quite a few lardy dars by proxy.
When I started dropping some Lords names, I became suspicious when he didn't know any of them, so I enquired further and he admitted it was a bought title 😂
No my friend is definitely one. I'm not naming him on purpose, he's a bit famous in certain circles. Not A list celeb but known. He went into politics but still occasionally treads the boards. He introduced me to Gandalf!
Apologies, I wasn’t implying anything. It was just a funny story.
No need to apologise, silly. I'm just an ageing firefighter that happens to have bumped into a few people through work. Common as muck me
Same, except I was never a firefighter 😂
Probably a good move.
Totally agree. It’s a weird dynamic.
I am one of those rather rare Europeans who generally speaking admire the American people and even think the MAGA movement was needed. But boy, don't these people prove time and time again what an uneducated bunch they are...
Earlier today I was reading about the institutional and legal structure of the relationship between Denmark as a sovereign, and Greenland, as an autonomous territory belonging to it. Nothing I didn't really know generally speaking, but some details are truly revealing and make this whole "conversation" even more stupid.
For instance, the Danish central government subsidizes the Greenland government in cash, in exchange for NOT exploiting any mineral resources it may find.
Recently, the Greenland government took charge of those resources, as part of the autonomy agreement, and as a result a clause kicks in that says that the subsidies they receive will diminish proportional to the resources they extract, until their complete elimination... *and from that moment onward, both governments must negotiate what's their respective share of those resources*.
So, Denmark is not just giving up their rights to exploit Greenland's mineral resources just because the Greenlanders are now in charge.
All I hear from MAGA world is talk about "buying" Greenland... but they seem deeply mistaken about who has the final right to "sell".
Yea. It’s all so nuts. Brings out the worst in people. Critical thinking out the window.
