Seeing a lot of discourse around Nostr dying and people leaving. Nostr could literally have 100 active people and I’d still prefer it over any current social media platform. Their loss.

The most interesting and capable people I've ever met are all here.

💯🔥 People have these things called “lives” 😂 and no one can be online literally all day every day. Last week and this week are busy af for me, so I haven’t been on as much. It comes in cycles for all of us, because that’s just how nostr is. It’s a very “human” social network.
100 people ... And I will create a million bots to get my stuff done :-) ..what else you need :-)
Me too. Sometimes, I just have things to take care of. This is a busy week for me.
Social media is dying in general. All platforms are dying I haven’t opened Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter in weeks Fatigue has set in. There’s only so much people can say and share
Yes! #Nostr is what I hoped the Internet could be in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Yes, but 1 gay bot and I think I would prefer no social media platforms. I'm on here because it's good not because it's better.
Facts. Nostr isn’t about numbers, it’s about principles. Decentralized, censorship-resistant, and sats-native. Let the crowds chase clout...we’re building signal.
Several here making statements I relate with. I only consume “social media” and offer nothing. Nostr is one of my favorites because it feels generally optimistic and about good ideas from good intentions. #nostr is here to stay, imo.
The porn bots are intel agencies pushing people away from the platform. They have few other attack vectors, so this is low hanging fruit. No one is subjecting themselves to that porn unless they are being paid to do so. If you're going to leave the platform because of a few porn bots, you're probably better off on Facebook anyway.

That does seem to be the case. As far as social apps go, I prefer simplex over any nostr client. It's a bit more intimate. You can't escape some of the fakeness on social media and nostr has, in no way, changed that.

I'm not a fan of sats actually. I believe that posting on Nostr shouldn't be transactional. It makes me sad that many Nostr users don't believe deeper interactions are possible. What I like about Nostr is that it's easy to make an account, but the user still owns their own keys. That means that anyone can join, and third parties can't prevent two people from finding eachother and talking with eachother if they really want to.

For now. I think many will, in time, gravitate away — for the most part — from nostr social media clients once other clients with a broader rage of usage (GitCitadel, MedSchlr, nostr marketplaces etc) become more... refined. That's just my opinoon, though.

I agree that would be pretty cool, but also there's absolutely no way I'm letting anyone IRL know my npub lol
True! To a certain extent, we're seeing the same discourse around Bitcoin's principles and future in El Salvador, and some international Bitcoiners leaving. They'll most probably go on jumping from one country to another for many years, the same way the guys leaving Nostr will continue going back to the centralized matrix (their "mother", etymologically). The builders stay in the building trenches , no matter what are the current hypes, governments & Bitcoin's equivalent "value" in fiat delusion.
Maybe. But nostr gets too confusing for a newb if you focus on follower counts and stuff. I have 5 followers or 597 followers depending on what relays I'm using. It's weird. If I use free relays for more engagement, the feed is being filled with spam, mostly porn which sucks.
Man I don't think I've ever put my brain in "billion sat mode". We should just stop using lower case bitcoin and only talk about sats

So true! I spend hours each day on Nostr, get all my news (tech, ₿, 丰, macro 🌍, politics, markets, life, wacky and not so wacky ideas,…) and all my entertainment here 💥 And while I‘m spending so much time my ⚡️ balance gets depleted 😹 View quoted note →
I use nostr only intermittently but it seems to be growing to me. Main issue is the UI is slower than alternatives like blusky...but still worth it

Deleted mine close 2 months ago now. Literally no regrets
I like that about Nostr too but why can’t you have both? Don’t use sats if you don’t want. I think you can have deeper interactions with people if you like (I personally find it difficult via text on a social media app). And why shouldn’t people get zaps or give zaps for good info, tools, entertainment etc?

I see you Dave. No question about it.
I like it here. Other platforms are garbage and people get paid via ads to create content that gets people all riled up or clickbait them so they get more engagement. No thanks.

Other platforms are dying because all the bots are driving out the real people because the algorithm sells adverts rather than good experiences.

Because casual two-way communication is only thing that Nostr is better at than the alternative options. If you are interested in high effort monologues then ActivityPub is already perfect. There's no need for the people consuming content to make a real account. They could browse the Fediverse and when a creator posts something the person likes, they can visit the creator's profile, copy and paste the address of their crypto wallet, and send whatever they want. Shoot, if the other person is already putting in the effort to create good info, tools, and entertainment then they could drop the microblogging protocol entirely. They could just start a blog and you can find their posts using a search engine/web crawler. Obviously people are free to use worse tools and create a worse experience for themselves and the people they associate with. The biggest reason I'm talking about this topic at all is because I figured people would want to dispute the conclusion I've come to, and because if so, I'm interested in talking with them.
