Hey @jack As I am quite certain you know, this is already underway throughout China. Iβd even go so far as to state that the AI war is over. In 12 months time open source models will devour the market share of the American closed platforms.
While Zuck and Altman go to the mattress over poaching and throwing gobs of money to hire mercenaries, they are all fighting the wrong battle. CapX is being pissed away. All the while the Chinese have pressed forward with solving the compute issue. And that was before access to Nvidiaβs H20 chip came back online.
Brute force innovation. Iβm old enough to remember when that was the American ethos. No more. Today itβs all about building silos and regulatory capture.

Itβs a good point generally but the limitation is hardware. Running anything like a frontier model requires massive GPU compute or using cloud compute, which is then at the behest of a big corp. Until hardware catches up to the models the open source dream will stay just a dream

AI is powerfully democratizing the ability to generate software, giving incredible power to the world, without the need to spend a life devoted to learning software.
Those of us who practice #TheCraft will always have a purpose, and our passion for software *must* deepen our appreciation of our human lifetimes, even more-so in this next generation of democratized software generation.

Even though I thought I knew what protocol meant. I didn't fully comprehend its significance until I joined Nostr.
To me, it means fully fledged, unfiltered open dialogue. No chokepoints, no gatekeepers, no ads.
