I just zapped someone 100 Sats for a short guitar-singing video, and then I realised that's 5 cents. 🀷 I mean, if you encounter a street singer, you still give more. At this point, "it's scarce as shit" is just an excuse to be a broke ass mother fucker who acts like royalty. So, what should be the norm from your point of view? In practice, I give €2 (3600 Sats) if it's something nice, €5 (9000 Sats) if I'm quite excited about the song & performance, and €10 (18000 Sats) if I'm also tipsy on top of everything else. What about you?

I don't think it should necessarily be a standard amount. I give what I can. I give street buskers more than online content creators because they're enriching the world I live in and online content creators have a much larger reach. I did recently increase my standard zap so I am feeling like royalty though you nailed it 🀣 image
Yea but the in person busking is ephemeral. Perhaps he made $50 in a day, but once he's no longer playing the money stops coming in. Most musicians or content creator types here post something they did last week, and maybe I see it and zap it 4 months later. It's got longer shelf life πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ And I think you added too many zeros to your euro-sat conversion. 90k sats is not so hard to earn here. But I find people here reward replies and interacting with the community moreso than just "here's a video of me" and no other engagement.
I give the guy outside the supermarket playing his guitar and harmonica 5cents, 20cents, sometimes a couple dollars. Depends what's in my pocket when I walk out of the shop. But that's the only person I give money to for their art/performance in a day of real life happens, and i only see that guy a couple times a week. On nostr I'm giving a dozen people a few cents each each day, and receiving most of it back from other people in the same way. You do have a valid point. I've easily given that one busker $30 as v4v by now.
Yea, I think that going live on nostr would be more comparable to the busker than sharing precorded stuff. I've never been one for liveatreams, but I do notice a lot of other people value things more when they're live. Those twitch/tiktok streamers make A LOT of money for their platforms just from the gifts people send them, way more than a street busker, and that is after the platform takes half or more. Nostr just needs to grow in users for that sort of thing to work. What are we now? A couple thousand active weekly users. Potential is for artists on here is huge and if it ever does grow to even just hundreds of thousands of active users people on here would make more than street buskers.
That’s funny, I just sent someone 5,000 sats and felt bad when I saw the dollar equivalent. Didn’t have much more in my hot wallet though. Time for a re-up!
Maybe we should make a BIP to make a sat one thousandh of a bitcoin instead of one hundred millionth so the default zap would be huuuuge ⚑ More seriously I think it's psychological, 1000 sats has a very different vibe than $0.50 even if you're a sat multi millionaire but not a $ millionaire
I don't really give a shit about the amount of sats people send in a zap. I send what feels right based on my financial situation. But I think one sat zaps are the fucking worst. Just send a like instead of wasting data and lightning fees.
bro which financial situation doesn't allow you to give a beggar at least 1-2 USD or EUR.. which is like a 1000 sats? and we really act like 100 sat is a fat zap.. i mean cmon
You are aware that this is nostr right? I mean i understand the point of a single zap of 100 sats being only 5 cents or sometimes not even that. But comparing a total of € 50 for a street musician is quite different. Let's start with the fact that he can attract people because people hear his music from afar. If he's ok a decent spot he gets much more visitors than the average nostr artist and the most important fact of all. He is alone and the only "zappable" person in the vicinity. On nostr pretty much everybody is sort of holding their hand up for just a shared thought or a giggle. On a good day i share maybe $1 around on nostr but it is simply divided over many more people.
I think you’re framing this one wrong. Definitely give more if you want to and if you’re able. But the revolutionary change is previously impossible micro-payments, that will likely grow in value over longer stretches of time. Their size democratises them across every continent, and also removes the psychological friction from people actually using them. As a creative/maker who understands Bitcoin; even receiving a few Sats feels amazing and generous when compared to a β€˜like’. I totally admire your thought process though.
Also, Nostr is TINY at the moment… if this paradigm shift grows over time; imagine receiving $0.05 from 1M people around the world… even for someone in the west, that’s insane, but for someone in a developing economy, that’s a freedom pass… @Constantin
