I never understand this thing people do where they go “my parents never taught me that, so that’s why I don’t know it.” Like you’re an adult now. Teach it to yourself? I guess I do understand it. It’s just a weak ass excuse plain and simple

Their parent didn’t know that, or talk then they should be curious to find out new things……. A recipe for a miserable life. 🫡🙌

Systemic failure to educate, now blaming parents, how convenient for the state.
Having kids taught me more about life than my parents ever did Some never get to that level of growth, and that’s cool, but I can’t take them seriously.
I mostly notice it in boomer or Gen X people. Most of them don’t understand YouTube as an educational platform and for the most part didn’t grow up with the internet. So I kind of understand. But still, most had other ways to learn shit after school or after childhood. Do you notice it in milanial and younger as well?

I agree with you, but my parents never taught me how to use Google or YouTube! What do I do now?? 😖🤦‍♂️
Same as how people complain about not being taught things like how to do taxes in school. Let’s be honest, no matter what people try to teach us as children we generally don’t care and forget. Just gotta make the decision to learn something and grab it by the balls.
A friend once told me that his teeth were bad because he wasn't taught to brush them (I think he started brushing in his 20s). I sometimes wonder what it's going to be like for the masses when Neuralink or the like let them see what it's like to, kind of just by default, think for yourself, try, and have agency.
In defense of ignorance, 😅 sometimes you just don't know what you don't know. If your parents never taught you to brush your teeth, you'd still know that teeth need to be brushed by watching a single TV commercial for toothpaste. But sometimes you don't know something like... How money works. Your parents didn't teach you, your school sure as hell didn't teach you, and it's too big of a subject to pick up without reading books about it. In those cases, even 'being an adult' isn't enough. You have to learn it the hard way somehow, and that's not something everyone gets to do.
How the fuck old do you think Gen X is??? WE grew up on the internet first... I was coding in elementary school and surfing the interwebz by high school. Don't you dare confuse us with boomers!
For your story to make sense YOU are either one of the very very few early adopters and definitely not representative for the whole age group of Gen X. Or you are a millennial confusing yourself for a Gen X born 😂 What exactly were you surfing in the 90s? Did you read the whole Microsoft DOS manual yourself by the age of 10 or was it rather a parent bed time story 😋

We'd better teach our kids not to make excuses.
