I hope someday nostr will kill YouTube with simple piracy πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Just decentralize hosting, indexing, and searching of YouTube's library. Make a bittorrent-based app that lets you search YouTube and when you pick a video to watch, the app automatically checks if the video is available as a torrent, and if a torrent isn't available, you can download it from YouTube directly, add it to the torrent index, and start seeding.

PipePipe and YouPipe (they work sometimes). Otherwise, Vimeo isn't horrible
FOSS: 1. PeerTube Not FOSS but decent alternatives: 1. Odysee 2. Rumble 3. Bitchute
I reaaaally want to like Peertube, but the network effect was very real. I haven't checked it out in a while, but the last time I visited it was starving for content.

Youtube is just too easy, and most people don't value FOSS tech. Maybe there is a way to integrate with Nostr and we could just take it over?
I was wondering about this. The storage seems like it would be intense for anyone who had an active channel. No clue the tech end. Honestly i don't know what instance actually entails. Is that like a node?
For most people FOSS is not a feature at all. I'd go out of my way to use something if it's FOSS, even if it donsn't solve all my problems, instead of using a more featureful app that is proprietary. Because proprietary software is a trap. The FOSS software that is popular is not used by normies because it's FOSS, but because it's really good: VLC and Firefox come to mind. For people who have a need for it, Blender is another example of extremely high quality software. Peertube, by it's decentralized nature, is not going to be as fast as Google's servers for YouTube, so most people would actively avoid it. The irony is that if more people used Peertube, it would be faster.
With Peertube you stream from an instance, but there's also p2p streaming. So more people watching, more people to stream from. It's like a torrent with 1 seed vs a torrent with thousands of seeds. Plus, if it becomes popular, there would be more instances, just like there are many bitcoin nodes.
Hell I'd py $10/month for a subscription. Just need a platform that loads up a cue . I barely sleep at night and just listen to YTs all night.
Essentially like a node in the network. I'm kinda thinking this is where co-op structures would make sense: a group of people who like the same kind of videos, which can then allow video makers they like to use that instance to publish. The cost is spread out, though there would need to be someone with the know-how to run it. Video makers have gotten used to the hosting of their videos being paid for in data on Youtube and TikTok and such, so it's going to be a shock for them to see the actual cost, and that's where a community is necessary to spread that cost around.
