I've never actually considered this tbh. I have a start9 Embassy I can easily install a relay on. Should look into it π
Please do!
Even just a private relay (that's what I do) to just store your own notes.
Clients like gossip, snort and coracle can find them without anyone adding it to their relay list.
So much to learn...
Iβm gonna do this but also when I get time Iβm considering writing my own one too
Running my own. Where can i read about these services that find them.
Thought:
In the future governments can ban certain public keys and relais containing those public keys will be fined.
Possible?
Please do and teach us plebs. I also have a node and can set up a relay, only I knew how.
Would be great to have a ready to set up app on Umbrel
Governments can't operate outside their jurisdictions. China has already banned my relay yet here my notes stand and the CCP can't get me.
Just just noticing a few things on your profile:
Your lightning address should look like an email, you can grab one from walletofsatoshi.com or getalby.com . What you have now is a lightning invoice and it can't be zapped
Your nip-05 verification is down, you can grab one for free from nodeless.io (nodeless address)
Awesome, thanks. Will certainly install this.
Thanks. I am not skilled in this arts.
What is the realistic system needed? I've got a spare old server that's currently a bitcoin node, decent older spec.
The greatest thing about Nostr is how
@fiatjaf designed it to be uncensorable, because anyone with a simple computer can run your own relay, and publish to it.
You say simple computer, made me think π€
Can it run on a raspberry pi?
And what about internet bandwidth, storage... Can you tell what are the requirements?
Yeah, Nostream can run in a raspberry pi with at least 4GB ram. Other relay implementations can as well Iβm sure.
Nostr relays are pretty lightweight.
If he's so brilliant why is his brood war mmr so low?
Last i checked start9 had its own implementation of a packed relay
So what kinda storage should one look into having to run this? Are there certain parameters you can run to limit types of data usage/ duration of stroage etc?
If you just store your own notes, extremely small... I doubt you can make 1gb of notes in a decade of shitposting
I just ask as running one if like to uncle Jim for a few friends
Just joined and have 13yr infrastructure experience but Iβve had no involvement with anything like this before.
Can I mirror all notes from history or does it just store future relayed notes from when you start?
You can mirror your previous notes no problem.
Yup that's the one I was talking about. I just looked into Umbrel's implementation tho and damn they give you a lot!
Did this yesterday. Took me 30 minutes. πͺ
Thank you! π«
But what about internet bandwidth?
What about storage?
I'm talking about self hosting in a home network.
It wouldn't be really helpful for the community if I run a relay just for me and a couple of friends, or am I wrong?
