Dude, Youtube is cracking down hard and it's insanely frustrating. My go to for YEARS for getting video and audio pulled from youtube in order to make clips, transcribe, use found footage, etc has just stopped working, It's all throwing back errors. Legacy platforms are literally becoming hot garbage. This is all such bullshit. As much as it pisses me off, it's at least a (albeit slow) self correcting mechanism. Because if i can't record or download stuff from Youtube... I literally will use it half as much, *at best.*

They're blocking access, removing features and then increasing their addictiveness with recommending their bottom brainstem videos, and this doesn't even touch upon the precariousness that their content creators feel trying to dodge the censors. Getting shittier moment by moment.
it happened with Facebook. It has become so bad that people who were addicted to it don't even notice they forgot to install the Facebook app on the new phone and when they login because their friends tell them they messaged them through it, they find hundreds of unread messages.
I’ve got plenty of ways to do screen capture without trouble (OBS is a good option), but that’s just WAY slower than downloading with the link and dropping the audio or video into the timeline for editing, or just making a super fast clip based on the subtitle file (which I can auto generate with Ai and then search through). Without that everything becomes manual again and only works at the speed of watching it. Still sucks in a huge way
Appreciate that but I wanted one local on my machine rather than a website based. I’ll keep this handy though as a backup if I don’t find a local replacement. 🙏🏻
Yeah no worries. Obvious first assumption since I didn’t specify. Do appreciate the link too, haven’t used that one.
Nah it was a tool called Jdownloader. Really useful app that would pull video even from the overwhelming majority of sites that would try to prevent people from doing so. Hoping they get an update with a fix, but I suspect there might be direct API or access being granted to the bigger name services that actually pay for it potentially. This would be why sites that offer it are still around, because they get users with ads when they go to the service.
Davinci Studio for video Logic Pro for audio Secondaries are CapCut, Descript, OcenAudio, Fission, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects if I really can’t find another way to do it (Adobe and I have issues)
Fiat world has been noticeably worse the past few years and growing in the wrong direction. So noticeable in fact that the average person is feeling it.
this has been expected and warned about for years. And it’s going to get much worse.

YouTube should,be the alternative. Alternatives should be the primary channel like Rumble or something else. Only when people have been censored by Google do they perhaps consider an alternative.
Invidious for YT, which is what I do through many frontends (FreeTube for desktop, Yattee for iOS, NewPipe for Android, etc.). Odysee is what I also use as a mirror for if my YT went down.

Video DownloadHelper is still working for Youtube. You'll need the companion app to download from Youtube. No license required on Linux.

newpipe has been diligently combatting YouTube's attempts. Foss will always win
Thanks for those who shared this. I’ve never heard of Invidious but it looks really awesome and I was able to download what I was looking for 🙏🏻
I’m working on a video focused nostr client at https://storm.pub. Right now it’s just a basic nostr timeline / reply / post client but I’m adding improvements every week. Please check it out and book mark it for later!
... stop wasting your (precious) time on legacy media .. #onlyNostr ..

Is there anything to alpha/beta test yet for that? I have a Mac and Debian workstation. Where to donate sats?
BTW if you are on Linux, either Parabolic or Video Downloader from flathub.org are great options to just download videos from YT. If you aren't on Linux, yt-dlp (what's in the backend of those apps) is available as an .exe.

Social media used to be the feeder for YouTube. Now YouTube will be a feeder for us while we build out the video platforms. Time to repurpose all the video assets you have and get them ready for uploading as soon as the platform switch is flipped.
