I want to increase NOSTR usage, but I must be doing something wrong, I only see the same few people here over and over, despite following many, and having quite a few followers.

Some people dominant the feed with constant posting. It would be nice if we could categorize who we follow with a rating system and higher rated follows show up in our feed at higher rate.
Same. I think overall activity is down. I’m switching clients to see if I see a difference.
Which client are you using? Have you fine-tuned your relays?
Damus (and I believe Amethyst) let you follow hashtags, which can definitely make it easier to find regular active users.
I follow 500+ plebs and it can still seem quiet at times. I’ve heard 1K+ follows is really the minimum for a robust feed, but it’s one way in which I’ve been a bit lazy so far.
Nostr also has busy & slow weeks, and (just like the wine industry!) it seems a little slower in summer. More people need to post about their boating accidents, I guess.

i use the conversation feed of my follows and global for new plebs. Global feed when everyone I follow is offline. follow hashtags of interest.

You dont follow that many people. And obviously the feed is chronological. So not everyone is awake posting at the same time. For sure its a different experience tho for now but it will change and evolve quick. Be patient and enjoy watching the path being built out. Explore different clients and relays.
But most of what you are experiencing is probably more a reflection of how your attention and chemistry was hijacked or perhaps still is, by the bird app.
It will take time for your dopamine receptors to recallibrate.

Agreed, I've been actively seeking out movements, cults and subcultures giving out nostr pamphlets just to get some contextual diversity in here.

I do use nostr.wine, among many others. Should I only use one?
I have amethyst, and a page full of relays, one paid. I don't know what fine tuning is, nor the feedback loop it affects.
Ripper posts get <5 likes, making me think I'm not appearing in my followers' feeds at all.

Switch up your relays, try different clients. Primal doesn't show all posts that cross your relays (and i don't know why). Though be warned: When you go to global in Snort, get ready for your PC to wake the hell up. It's like mining; executing JSON.parse as fast and many times as possible - there's a lot happening. But on the flipside? Its real-time.
Well I will make a conscious effort to Luke any posts of yours I see. I also think the etiquette around here is a bit different in that likes are almost frowned on, because of zaps. With clients like Damus no longer allowing zaps on notes I think it’s all now harder to track, maybe
- Follow hashtags so you can see posts about the things you're interested in, rather than only focusing your feed on specific people
- Add a relay like wss://relay.mostr.pub , which bridges the Fediverse/Mastodon into Nostr and allows you to follow all those people from your Nostr client as well.

Try putting someone else's npub into a client and see what their feed looks like. Someone who is more engaged and follows more people in your area of interest. @UNCLE ROCKSTAR or @utxo the webmaster 🧑💻 maybe

I used to think that, but then I realized I was just always looking at the trending notes from the last 24 hours. When I switched it to the latest notes from my tribe (people I follow and the people they follow), I see new things all the time from all sorts of people.
