cool. Now I wish they'd do away with having the same Profile Name for everyone. I've no idea why they insisted on having a Profile Name, but its poor for privacy.

Still in beta. Rolling out over the next few weeks
"People who have your number saved in their phone’s contacts will still see your phone number since they already know it." Lol.

I’ve never used signal. How does you identity a contact? By username?

😀 won’t automatically sanitize your contact list.
I don't get what actually changed.... (It was like that last year) You give it a spoffed / call forwarding / temp number and make a fake name It feels the same "If you don’t want to hand out your phone number to chat with someone on Signal, you can now create a unique username that you can use instead (you will still need a phone number to sign up for Signal). Note that a username is not the profile name that’s displayed in chats, it’s not a permanent handle, and not visible to the people you are chatting with in Signal. A username is simply a way to initiate contact on Signal without sharing your phone number." View quoted note →
I has a year , just talk 2 friends , when bip , I know of is important. I send people I have in my life to my brother and mother 2 But they don't use it so I don't respond to others because I'm studying 16 hours a day. No signal I have 2 friends, the last ones left after this mess they made since 2020. I answer her right away, because I know is important ! Tks @jack

i will open hutch and hazel.
is this kind of still totally retarded or something? except for classic phone i never give away my number. i also steer away from services that need email. username and pass/secret. thats all that should be. leading you to services such as matrix. providers or platforms shouldnt even go down the road of asking for users metadata at all. sigh
