Here's the problem. Beyond a certain scale, you need lots of money to run these things. Like many millions of dollars. And you're not getting that much from plebs or Bitcoin-only companies, so they have to bring in the people that are willing to pay, like altcoiners, bankers, governments and other scammers. And they want to see politicians and other people that they get along with. In other words, beyond a certain size, these events are funded by fiat money.
True Bitcoin-only conferences rarely scale this much.

That's a good reason not to have a large one. If the conf. becomes gay why continue?
Money is a future claim on goods and services. We don't need more claims, we need more goods and services within the space. Bringing fiat cantillionaires is putting the cart before the horse. Build things and don't take a worthless piece of paper for your efforts, that's kind of it.
That’s the key point… That they abandoned the bitcoiner ethos in order to gain more money/attention/followers/etc… and since they care about dollar gains and attention more than freedom money, this is what you get… a conference that doesn’t feel like a bitcoin event, because it simply isn’t
Maybe we could have an oldtimer conference without much fanfare
Who asked for a big conference anyways
This is a fact! I think the nodes that @Bitcoin Park and @PUBKEY are building will be the cornerstone for connecting in person that scales for Bitcoiners. Similar to local churches. As a Catholic there are many things the "church" does I disagree with. Getting to connect with God with like minded neighbors weekly fills up my soul.
IOW it is a Bitcoin conference in name only. Let them play.
Yeah, true, it gets even "better" with the anti-conference approach we do at 2140.wtf
Lack of funding ...but we managed to run it in London without the tickets last year, fully open to the public celebrating the culture of bitcoin. Tech cultire, open source, nostr and art.
Our next event in June is however connected with the crowd of normies at the 4 day long music festival outdoors, probably the biggest ever festival since 2009 with a dedicated bitcoin stage.

true ..
This was my first bitcoin conference (in person), wonderful experience for me but yes there was that “blockchain not Bitcoin” vibe I was picking up.
I think you are correct unfortunately the more I think about it.
Plebs to suits

Bitcoin2025: Discernment and Transformation
Jimmy Song is making an important point here: beyond a certain size, most conferences become dependent on fiat sponsors and altcoin money. I saw that too. There were subtle shifts—the language of “crypto” creeping into speeches, a “blockchain summit” being promoted, and even Bitcoin advocates like JD Vance defaulting to broader terms that dilute the signal.
Even Ross’s speech, though deeply moving, had a few moments where that distinction blurred.
And yet…
Despite this undercurrent, I left Bitcoin2025 feeling more clear, more convicted, and more hopeful than I’ve felt in a long time.
That might sound contradictory. But maybe that’s the nature of awakening: it doesn’t require perfection. It just requires truth strong enough to break through the noise.
I met people who get it. I heard voices—some from unexpected places—that reminded me why I chose Bitcoin. And I remembered that this isn’t about branding or tribalism. It’s about freedom. It’s about sovereignty. It’s about building something real, rooted in time, cost, and work.
You can see the drift and still be moved. That’s not gullibility. That’s discernment—and hope.
I’ll be unpacking more of this in the days ahead. But for now: I’m grateful.
Also: Jimmy Song’s book “Fiat Ruins Everything” was part of that awakening I read it late last year (November time frame) forever grateful thank you @jimmysong !
Bitcoin still shines.
We had Unconfiscatable and it died because of precisely what Jimmy said.
Conferences are shit coin.
Adopting Bitcoin in November is more my style
100%
And for the record, I wouldn't have any real issue with the conference--and would probably never even comment on it--if it weren't falsely marketed as "the largest Bitcoin conference in the world."
This is why you need to attend the pure signal joy of the artisinal @btcplusplus conferences around the planet with legend @niftynei() 🇺🇸💸🧡
Can't overstate the awesomeness of them 🔥🤘🎉
Next year I will try a new conference, prague, Amsterdam, or maybe Lugano. Any recommendations?
I've heard a lot of Bitcoin-only influencers say they could have made a lot more money advertising shitcoin.
That said, in a free market, I suppose this kind of invasion was inevitable. We have to be patient and wait for them to economically suffocate.
I think bitcoin companies like swan are worried about market share now that big banks and wire houses are coming in.
And when there is a treasure, hordes of degenerate bugs and parasites come along and creep around to see if it is just a carcass or a fortress. If it is a fortress the price to parasite is too high and they eventually leave.
If it is not guarded they infiltrate and corrupt.
Stay focused
