I wonder if this interaction feed helps with initial onboarding. 1. You post to #introductions 2. You get some initial interactions from @Derek Ross welcoming you 3. You like or reply to their post 4. Then all of a sudden you have an initial derek feed even if you haven’t followed him 5. You look at notes and replies, and see derek chatting with a few people. 6. You open a few threads and like a few more posts. 7. Your feed starts to populate more from people who had posts you liked. Seems like a nice organic way to onboard people who might not think about following? We could use this interaction feed combined with the follow list if the user isn’t following many people at the start 🤔

This sounds interesting… I want to experience this fresh… I’ll probably spring a new npub just to see how this organic growth happens. I’m thinking about Arabic speakers which is a much much smaller number of npubs, this will be one of the fastest web of trusts to populate a feed.

This is actually how I got started just reading people’s replies, seeing what they were talking about, following them, and checking out who they followed so I could follow them too. I didn’t know anyone on Nostr, but just by doing that daily, I built up my feed. Within a month, it was no longer a blank space.

For sure. If this process flows naturally and easily without extra effort, onboarding becomes much smoother for users.
Sure, but i still think the 'take the feed/perspective' from an npub, something appearently primal already lets you do, is the most straight forward. In most cases you got to Nostr via someone, so just addopt their perspective as a bootstrap.
Well, about any client already supports this in the sense you can log-in with an npub; but i mean you do effectively the same thing whilst being logged in with your own nsec, and can just follow, comment, post, like etc.
This is how my onboarding client will operate … but customizable. The neat part about onboarding via a dedicated web client is that a single QR or web link can onboard anyone in a single interaction, from zero directly to an interesting feed of trusted people and other recommendations on Nostr. In addition to being instantly accessible, the feeds settings and recommendations provided by these “invite” links will be customizable for different audiences … So yea … I’m more of a fan of giving people ALL of the tools they might need in a single “task specific” onboard package and let them go to town … rather than figuring out which one will be best.

Webs of Trust Onboarding and Discovery
For over a year, I have been developing “webs of trust onboarding and discovery” tools for Nostr. With additional funding, I hope to continue this endeavor. Here is my 2025 application for grant funding.

As long as you filter for npubs with "real" interactions, otherwise this might incentivize people to spam #introductions and ruin the experience for new users
I think so. When I first joined here, not sure if I got the initial greeting from Derek, but I did add his feed to mine to help with account discovery. Tbh, I can’t remember why/how he was the chosen one. 😂
Perhaps you misunderstand, because i am not talking about 'default follow lists', i am talking about me being able to addopt your perspective in 1 click (maybe 2, or 3 but you get the point). The way primal has it implemented is far to hidden, but case in point:
you can choose from different hashtags in "safe" mode and bootstrap from that a network. Or you can use purple users

Yeah thats a decent idea. I always liked the idea of an impersonation mode, where you can view the app from another users perspective, and when you follow someone it adds to your follow list.

I wanted something that was more dynamic, dvms don’t seem like a great solution for dynamic per-user things
Oooo like “signing in” with an already curated npub feed and you engage and follow content from there… i like that. 🔥🔥🔥

Derek is the most sound and consistent representation of the nostr ecosystem to date. Had he been available, I was going to pay to travel him to MI to present to the community in my hometown about nostr.
This sounds like a real organic way to create a follow list from your initial interactions. I also think in some way, some kind of onboarding mechanism that allows you to want to find people to follow who are geographically closer to you would be really cool. Making it easy to create a “Barcelona nostr thread”. But i can imagine this would need to be an “opt-in” kind of option so people can remain geographically-private if they want to.
Just have better recommended users, and make sure to properly label which are actually bitcoincentric (eg memes Vs bitcoin memes, these are not that same)..? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is how threads works and all i get is local prostitutes and onlyfans girls pretending to want hookups. Wouldn’t be surprised if its bots faking the geo location somehow. it’s still a neat ideal otherwise.

Oh, I actually meant a fully functional "avatar" that interacts with people 😃

this wouldn't replace your main contact list. its just an automatic contact list based on interactions for people who are too lazy to maintain an explicit list

then your "contact list(s)" would just be specific lists of people that you add to. I guess this is just a personalized algo feed based on who you interact with the most

Yes. And music at 11/10 volume.
I seeeee. It's an idea:) Obviously it would have to remove all the noob reply bots
Testing zaps on this note… we made six attempts to⚡zap this note, at bjorn@minibits.cash, over a period of 20 minutes. All six attempts were successful. Please check on your end to be sure you received. Average zap time was 5451ms (5.5 seconds). We consider this zap time slow... generally, zaps should complete in under two seconds. (Other Nostr users might think your zaps are broken, might not zap you again.) We recommend you receive zaps with a well-connected, cloud-based Lightning node to reduce your latency.
Hello, I am new here since few days. And it is true, it is not easy to get all the way it works. I have try many nostr client first, each have some interesting feature. but the way interaction works still a little blur. I mean i have followed some people i like (from the note they have written or their reply). But after that, i had many "bot" that have follow me and unfollow me multiple times until they have finally go away. The hard part to consider is when you are new here you don't know anyone, and have to read, like, reply, on the content you like. But for old users it can be annoying and you can be mute for the same reason. Too much interaction = too much "noise". I think it is a good idea to "auto-follow" people to contact list when you do an action with them "like/reply..." but it have to be an option that you can disable if you consider you have reach enough following count that you like. It would be easier to have this behavior by default activate for new account and old account could disable this option in their client. I have also seen some relay rejecting the contact list update, would it be a problem for this new option? And a last question, muting people is a good option to decide to hide text from people you don't want to read, but is this muting list shared? because if someone mute you because he don't like your words, it doesn't mean he is a bot... and the same words could sounds differently to other users... perhaps mute option could be more precise (mute for me/mute for all/mute because bot...) Thanks for the work you all have done on nosrt since the beginning !
Nostr is just an open-protocol. Please try to use other various clients (e.g.: Primal, Damus, etc.). Hope you’ll get difference experiences and find the fit one for you; hope your problems solved, too. And yes, please leaving the old-school centralized style of popular platforms paradigm, Nostr is a “new world”. By the way, you can repost (with quote) this note and use #introductions. Nice to meet you. 🫂
