I have a friend who’s an artist in multiple dimensions- music and physical art forms. I’ve been that annoying bitcoiner friend to him who won’t shut up about it and basically he’s “happy for me that it’s going up,” but basically any time I talk about it his eyes glaze over and he doesn’t have that much to say in return. The first time I trickle fed some orange pilling to him was me sending some lightning sats for the beers that he bought to the at the time working Wallet of Satoshi. At this point anytime I’ve talked to him about anything money he’s basically saying yeah I’d love to learn about this money stuff and investing more man but I’m living in a shit situation and have credit card debt and working in a job I don’t want to be in.
Fast forward to now: I’m like many talk about sort of giving up on orange pilling overall as people will get it when they get it but I do have an interesting idea of “commissioning” him for a painting or mural of some sort and paying him sats on an opendime for it. I am in theory going to ask him for a piece inspired by how he perceives bitcoin in his understanding now, or perhaps how he perceives money in his understanding of it now. Obviously can only “ lead the horse to the water but can’t make it drink” but if he’s willing I think it would be interesting for him to even start looking into V4V. Thoughts? #bitcoin #orangepilling #asknostr

offering to pay in sats is definitely a wise idea
1) when I offered to pay sats to my “poor” friend they refused because they need quick fiat to survive today
2) your friend said “yeah I wanna learn about this money thing but I’m in a shit situation and have credit card debt and working in a job I don’t like”…. Those are exactly the reasons why you should start immediately to learn about this “money thing”, doesn’t make sense to me…
It’s in my view that they should learn about the “money thing” that being how money really works- fiat vs hard currency. His biggest problem being he can’t seem to save a dime because of debt he’s in. He’s claiming he wants to learn about investing and stuff but at the same time it’s too hard for him to do so while he is in debt in his perspective.
I guess if he is getting out of debt he is in a situation where he is learning about money but I’m not trying to save him, I just think it might be beneficial to him as a side income to do his art for V4V as he is mostly passionate about that as he has a film degree.
Totally agree with you man, everybody should learn the fiat vs hard money topic, that's the foundation of it all.
I'm afraid that if his mindset is "I'm too much in deep debt to learn about money", then he will never improove his situation. Has ever thought that maybe he's in this situation and cannot get out of it exactly because he has not learnt about money? And what's his plan to get out of the situation he's in? Does he even have a plan or he is trying to survive day by day and hoping that somehow magically one day he'll get out of his situation?
I don't mean to shit on your friend, mine is frustration because I had the exact same conversations with some of my friends who have the same mindset as your friend here. I'm frustrated because I'd like to help/support them, but they come back with excuse after excuse and refuse to deidcate even 2 hours a week (which is nothing!) to study a bit, I even volounteer to study together to help them but nothing! Some people just have a victim mentality, are not curious, and don't have the drive
Yeah it’s hard to see them in that situation but probably best not to “bitcoin purity test” them as was mentioned a few episodes of on Rock Paper Bitcoin ago.
Do you remember the episode man? I’m curious cause I haven’t heard that before
Episode 66 Bitcoin Wrecks Relationships @Phundamentals @Business Cat Host the show
I have so many creative friends who choose to sell on Etsy or through IG. For some reason, there is this boneheaded idea that if you are doing you are, you are just going to be broke and struggling.
My musician friends insist on paying Spotify to host low-quality versions of their music for people to listen to for free (or with a fee that only goes to Spotify), and when I talk to them about #nostr, #lightningzaps, and #value4value they roll their eyes as if there’s no possible way. 🤯🤬
I have started teaching classes and hosting meetups, and letting those who are genuinely interested come to me, instead of wasting my energy. I want my friends and family to “get it”, but perhaps I’ll just have to lead by example.
Keep giving them the #orangepill! 🙌🏼
