Yup. I can’t wait until the pixel fold is cheap enough. I also love PWAs. Forget app stores…
And if you ever need Google services/apps on the phone, you can install them on different Profile with nym account, so the main Profile stays de-Googled. Profiles are pretty cool feature.
Its incredibly easy. Its basically the same process to install stock Android via google

Obtainium has been my go to for open source for many years now. You don't want to be relying on fdroid when you can add direct from source code releases. Up front config required but can backup and restore easily after that. Zapstore coming along nicely but not as flexible and doesn't have all the apps you want yet. Aurora store for the handful of proprietary apps you might still need or are in the process of transitioning out of.

Easy to do from a web page

As easy as pushing some buttons in a web page. 😂 It suprised me years ago, The sign up to any mainstream platform is trickyer.
Easy to install indeed but how to ensure the different profiles are indeed “sandboxed” and safe for use (no tracking) It’s also difficult to have both an esim and sim installled for different profiles

Welcome. You will love it. I prefer it over an iphone after several years of use. Lots of settings options too. I like one that switches wifi off when it disconnects from the netowork for more than a minute. I prefer the manual reuqirements to allow the phone to do things. Lots of permissions controls.
Some. Depends where you're at I guess. Regardless, I think most people can wait until they get to a PC or use a web version instead of app if they're in that much of a hurry.
Haven’t figured it out yet Hamlin, i think i need to install a sim card first from my local provider, but not really keen to. I am trying to get more info first, not really in a rush 😉

can you compare the OS system to other privacy or crypto phones like the Librem 5
We can't - for now. Considering everything a nophone is a great solution, second best is a graphene.
Yep. This type of posts will always disregard that suspicious fact. For some reason they'll ignore Calyx, ignore all the other smartphones available and go straight for really bad advice from a cybersec perspective. Very sus. 🧐
If you still use banking apps stop calling yourself a BTC maxi. I recommend everybody to walk the talk. Start with getting rid of credit and debit cards. That alone will make you a force for adoption and it'll stop you all becoming hypocrites.
He won't. No person serious about privacy would ever install an android distribution that only runs on Google-owned hardware. It's like putting a heavy lock on your frontdoor while the backdoor is wide open for everyone.
No need for sims where we are going. Just use WiFi and anonymous esims for coverage. Then ideally use SimpleX exclusively over for for calls. If you insist in still having an insecure number to call you set up a VoIP service.
I learned to ignore all proprietary apps/appstores. Can absolutely recommend the feeling of freshness and ease
Get rid of Signal and install Molly if you still want to rely on Signal's AWS network over SimpleX.
Unfortunately true. So waiting for Graphene to create their own OEM phone or use "Nophones" as often as possible. In the meanwhile it's still an upgrade for most people. Starting from acknwoledging that they want more control and privacy. That alone will translate into new market opportunities.
Some of them. If it's a must to have them on your phone - create new Profile, install sandboxed Play Store and Play Services, create & login with some nym g-account and install the banking app.
That doesn't really make it any better. You should never trust closed ecosystems where both the hardware and OS are provided by the same group. I would more quickly trust some cheap chinese android that nobody cares enough to plant hardware backdoors than using a device from a group that is knows they are sus since years and now I should trust they haven't poisoned their hardware too.
99% of the apps work fine. The most annoying culprits are banking apps of which 90% work fine, this is possible because grapheneOS is not a "rooted" OS, it locks the bootloader post installation which means no app has escalated privileges.
Totally wrong. The reason for using pixels is because it is the only Android device that meets their strict security specifications. Graphene is now working with an OEM to get an alternative device with the same level of hardware security

There are PLENTY of options which don't require Play Services. You're not a google crackhead, you don't NEED their alleged "convenience."
Now and never again. Once @GrapheneOS there is no come back door. 7 phones flashed delivered to their users. We are proud of our numbers. Nothing stop this phone. 🤠👁️
before name calling you might try to get that brain of you thinking that not everyone lives were you live were it is possible living on a bitcoin standard, which to my humble opinion all bitcoiners want too but most can’t because of circumstances. If you are able doing so praise yourself lucky you can, and you might try to start educate and help people on how one can live on a bitcoin standard, not having any credit cards let alone a regular bank account while still need to work for a living. you might take an example on BTC sessions 😉
Amazing to see this. I've been a Graphene user for some time and I'll never go back! We need more people switching... I'd add installing and using graphene a mandatory skill for all bitcoiners. If it helps on install go through built in app store and download accresant. From their " app Verifier." Then I would go get @Zapstore and show the people how to verify with app verifier... I've had several switch and this seems to be an easy way to start without going straight to the play store... Thanks for all you do Ben!

David Bombal's channel has an excellent tutorial and companion pdf download of instructions, too.
Good work sir. Keep making them videos for to learn Sessions. GOS has been my daily since the 6a was cheap. If I can use daily just about anyone can. They make it so easy now there is is no reason not to give it a go.

Amazing! De googling one’s life is the best decision always.
Just curious in what way you think this is? They've decentralised their network and server infrastructure, but it's still controlled by them. Most of their services are basically walled gardens.
The GrapheneOS proposal is strange to me, de-Googling the software but remaining dependent on the hardware... I don't feel comfortable with this and hope that phones with open hardware (OSHW) will soon emerge to solve this and possible backdoors.

For me Graphene or CalyxOS or Lineage OS is the same(no identity phones). I don't understand why everybody recommend Graphene OS of other option existed long time ago(Lineage OS is probably the oldest custom rom). PS: Graphene fans are welcome to attack me on nostr.🥶
Complete and utter bullshit. Even flat earthers come up with more creative excuses for refusing to ear what cybersec experts have been telling you guys. Just admit that you do this for the money.

The others ROMs are not as secure as GOS. You have to use a pixel, all other hardware is not up to snuff.... @GrapheneOS talk about all of this alot.
Because they are basically sponsored to promoted that suspicious option. It is not everybody, there are plenty of people criticizing the situation like me and yourself, but just observe this suspicious flood of bots that refuse admitting even the most obvious of cybersecurity facts.
That is utter bullshit. You know this. I know you know this. You know that I know you know this. And still you insist in fooling other again. How many shekels do you get for promoting that suspicious project?
I know a bit about them and other companies with open-source hardware projects, but I confess I haven't delved too deeply into their proposal. I'd like to see them here at Nostr; I think it would be an excellent niche for them to explore 👍
Journalists working in hostile environments, politicians under surveillance, dissidents and personnel working under cover ain’t using CalyxOS, Librem or Blackphone. This is the reality and doesn’t factor in ‘feelings’ or ‘gut instincts’ about Google products. Imagine being able to buy the cure for cancer from Walmart but refusing because Walmart also sells food products that can cause cancer.
All the banking apps (and I have a lot of them), Tesla app, and quite some more that either rely on Play Services, push notifications or check if they are really installed from Play Store.
I know, my comment was concerning the "de-googled". Of course a lot better than the stock #Android OS with all the #Google apps and services, but no way for me to go full de-googled without Play Services, unfortunately.
Oh .. long story .. the entire premise of google is to break the most impenetrable forts of centralization - take for example - Internet Explorer with Chrome ( which btw is largely open source ) - iOS with Android ( again largely open) - Mac And Windows - chromeOS ( which is essentially Linux) - google FI to fight complete autonomy of AT&T and Verizon - wearOS to counter watchOS .. practically free for the partners like Android - wayMo to counter Tesla - TPUs to counter nVidia GPUs Google is makes centralized power into a binary choice and then opens up the floodgate for smaller players .. without google earth would be ..well still flat :-) Besides the entire AI is based on transformers which is open source of google .. Not even counting endless backend technologies.. like node ..
Curious that you mention that point, because those are exactly the people who'll quickly be targeted when using a compromised phone. You even know the other better options and yet dismiss them like its nothing. Those who care for those in risk would advice them to avoid any suspicious tools or hardware. Are you a foreign agent?
No shit Sherlock. That’s why they should not use second rate second tier privacy preserving mobile phone device’s and OS’s. I’ll repeat it again for those with ears that are painted on: @GrapheneOS running on a Pixel device gives you FAR more privacy and security than a CalyxOS device a Blackphone or a Librem product. Do you know why I dismiss them and why anyone else whose life literally depends on privacy and security also dismisses them? Because they don’t come close to the level of real time security and privacy that @GrapheneOS provides. Facts don’t care about your feelings towards Google 🫠

My apologies for the hostility and ignorace, I sometimes forget professionals rely on propietary software like the ones you listed. Difference between a pro and a hobbyist, eh?
Well, now it is obvious you are a gov bot. Sorry, we will keep pointing out to journalists that using a suspicious android distribution on a compromissed hardware is bad for them, just as much as you'll be repeating otherwise to fool them. At least you're getting paid, so it ain't that bad.
Show us your cards. What phone and what OS are you advising a journalist to use in an incredibly hostile environment where 1 security mistake will end in certain death?
Just as I thought. No opinion, no back bone, no balls. Just more noise in an already noisy world. Disappointing but not unexpected. Feel free to jump back into the fray once you have something to say 🫡
Yeah, good try. You get a few cents for each reply or just a daily rate? Today is sunday, you should really ask for better work conditions to your employer.
Don’t jump back into the fray unless you are willing to man up and show your cards. Your ears and eyes really are painted on aren’t they!?

I'm not sure what u r talking about? That's the conclusion I have come to so far. From what I have read and while using GOS it seams to make the most sense. Im open to hearing what I may have missed?
@npub1p3k3xnzsgeyumc8zxxqqtvqd6q7nqh0encdhpyl2f6u5tzpcr72qsj8fzq This upcoming tutorial might be of interest. Any additional ideas that @BTC Sessions should be aware of on this topic?
They announced on the site a restructuring, unlike yourselves who seem to have magic funding coming from somewhere. Thanks, but no thanks FBI.
You are the ones recommending to use highly suspicious hardware. Yeah, no thanks FBI. Not today. 👍
