damus' ios onboarding is still pretty much "fuck you, figure it out". "also check out this diarrhea stream to find content". not ideal.

Is there a client that is not like that or worse?
Damus isn't alone. I try Amethyst as a new user from time to time. Global is awash with porn and Bitcoin price bots, with a few real posts interspersed. It's pretty unappealing. I've noticed the "Safer Global" option on jumble.social is much better.
Yes, this is basically their 'categories'. They're all sub categories of bitcoin lol
A lot of the people on their lists haven't posted in a long time even. I make a new npub on primal occasionally, it's always the same lists. It's just the top followed people, according to nostr.band I think. It's pretty useless.
You'd think it was also in their interest to have a good follow list. I wonder what's up with that lol. They probably done even use nostr
Yeah it's not usable. I don't quite get the purpose of mempool bots and price bots, they aren't exactly farming zaps. Have you found any app-based client on mobile that is actually useful for discovering content?
DVMs in Amethyst are an ok option, but they are somewhat hidden from new users, and there are so many to pick from. Some specialty DVM on first run for new users to browse and select from would be a good start.
And a blinking icon on first open. If we could pin dvms to the top, maybe it could come out of the box with a few presets right at the top that the user can change later when they figure out all the navigation and settings.
You would assume so. But they also haven't implemented Amber login on Android in 2 years so who knows. It's a difficult problem, no one really has a solution. A "something better than nothing" feature πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Finding people and stuff you're interested in. Finding the right relays hosting the right things.
They should actively look for interesting accounts to recommend. If they asked people would also help. And they could include more accounts which aren't just Bitcointwitter2 rubbish. It's not actually all that hard. The list they have actually puts a lot of people off. Same with their sidebar. If you look at that sidebar you'd be under the impression this is a bitcoin telegram group. And although that might be true, it's a bad impression and a feedback loop.
Analyze the follows of other new users who stay for longer than a week, and haven't posted a note with the word "Bitcoin", and don't have the word "Bitcoin" or "podcast" in their bio. Cross reference common followed users between those people. There's your normie algo πŸ˜‚
Tbh the normies algo is the bitcoin one. Look at the Ghibli ai slop saga. My twitter feed has one or two people posting it. That's it. The normies are already here lol.
It was barely a thing on my twitter feed. I follow under 300 people tho. Ditto when the price of bitcoin changes, there's almost nothing about it on my twitter feed. Nostr on the other hand. Lol.
I'm not on Twitter thankfully. I should have stayed on Nostr and unfollowed every Ghiblipost I don't interact with regularly πŸ˜‚
Is there no way a client can 'learn' what you like and start giving recommendations. Could be very simple, merely people who are also mentioning a shared interest a few times. Or more complex too, I imagine. No idea.
I also think a lot of it is that devs have really shitty taste in art, music, memes etc lol No offence devs. But you're basically bitch normies.
