I keep toying with the idea of getting a new tablet. I haven't had one in nearly a decade. It wouldn't be an iPad though. I blame @jb55 for this because I want a more portable #Notedeck device.
So the ipad has replaced your laptop browser
iPad Pro with attached keyboard is one of the best devices of all time. Especially the folio keyboard from 2018
My laptop (a cheap Chromebook) replaced my tablet.
I wanted a big screen that would hold itself up to watch video and a keyboard for emails or basic documents.
What are you doing on the web that you find a tablet preferable to a laptop? I don't think a lot of web content is touch-driven.
Do you write code on that?
yes. terminus and replit.
I don’t own a Laptop anymore since more than a decade. iPad only 🤝🏻

Great idea! Thanks
THIS ^^
You don’t understand. They almost never touch the screen. It’s pretty much a super portable laptop now, aside the shitty iPadOS experience you get.

I installed Linux on a Microsoft Surface Go tablet. Use it as a small computer from time to time. Pretty neat.
Do you use a mouse? I can’t get used to the mouse on the iPad Air. It’s like a magnet to buttons that I don’t want to press.
Does being thinner and lighter actually make it more portable?
If I want to take my laptop somewhere I put it in a faraday bag and then put that inside a laptop bag.
How would my laptop being a little smaller change that experience?
good to know! might try this!
i use MacBook Pro without any extra screens, will try iPad Pro
11inch or 13inch Modell. Which one do you prefer? @jack
There’s nothing the iPad Pro can’t do. Beats out a note-taking device, eReader, drawing tablet, etc.
the web is a cage
But it's still apple tho no open source no freedom 🥲
Can't even be used unless you login with tracking apple ID 🤬
And also hopefully not using safari browser 😓
With physical or on-screen keyboard?
why do you prefer ipad pro over laptop?
for me it’s focus and mainly for non local coding.
Not Linux need the terminal... Assuming you’re using shortcuts with the web apps maybe?. Have a iPad but cause of limitations aka keyboard etc but might play around nice tip!
Which browser do you use?
I find that hard to believe to be productive. What are the 5 most “websites/apps” you use?
Keyboard and mouse attached?
what generation is it?
Which browser? Safari? Brave?
Also, how do you run emacs/vim and use the terminal? Replit?
why is it a trick to not use apps? (she smiled sweetly).
Progressive web apps?
I'll never use an apple product.
it's a joke
Same. For quite a while now. Web only is much more secure too. 💥
Nothing will outright replace my thinkpad.
I find myself grabbing my iPad Pro more than my laptop too these days but conversely I’m using all the apps and still go to the laptop when I need web. What browser(s) are you finding most useful on ipad OS that solves it for you?
This has become the choice tech executives for some reason. Our CTO doesn’t code anymore and is mostly on calls, so I guess he doesn’t “need” a laptop. I’d still think laptops would provide a better experience tho.

which browser ?
nooo... i rather buy linux tablet
Next go Boox ultra tab pro, or similar. Eink feels great
You can't use it to type things without carrying an external keyboard. Might as well have a laptop at that point.
Idk if I can do it, haha
Tio: get away from Apple products. They are extremely inferior.
Apple rats out their users in the UK to the government, why support them?
Ipad only gang

This is the way. Web apps only
Why not using the apps and the web only?
We not android?
Why Apple Store not received crypto payment as means to pay ? Primitive …
Are you using the keyboard too ?
I use iPad Air cheaper but powerful
Yes 🙌 we need use web apps more😁
I started using Orion recently, as they allow for Firefox and Chrome extensions. Maybe take a look into that (I'm sure @jack wouldn't mind taking a look at it either).
Try pixel with grapheneOS or lineageOS and install microg in it or without it.
Yes, keyboard is a must
Are you satisfied with Apple’s iPad keyboards or have you tried anything else?
He uses apps privately on Graphene OS maybe 👀
Exactly, and when you want to use the touch experience or watch something you can fold the keyboard away.
You're getting flexibility, maneuverability in a cheaper package.
Yeah the Apple Magic one is the best. I’ve tried a few other things and there’s always connection issues or some other drama. The Apple one just works perfectly all the time and provides extra battery too.
Good to know!
I hate using copy and paste on the iPad , tho
I am using my iPad as extended screen from my Mac so I just use keyboard and mouse 🐁 from my Mac . No additional iPad pencil needed.

Talk to me about Terminal……. What’s the command line work around?
Blink shell
Getting there too. Using blink shell for remote development with code-server over ssh tunnel. Do you end up using stage manager much?
Using Safari PWA?
What about Brave?
