TIL about the 1-9-90 rule, which states that in general only 1% of internet users actively create and post new content, 9% contribute occasionally, and 90% are lurkers consuming content. Do you think this remains true for nostr? image

100%. But the ratios are slightly more balanced the smaller the community. For example a group chat of 15 friends will always have lurkers, but it’s definitely not 90%
Yea I think the term “lurker” is funny 😄 but “content consumer” may be a better descriptor. I believe the numbers are just a generalized reference, and likely shift a bit depending on which platform, etc. But it’s an interesting data point as someone who likes to create and post things.

Yes. I occasionally create just to feel alive.
Damn, I gotta quit shit posting. I just assumed nobody is really here to see it.

This is pretty interesting. I think I am probably about 10% Creator, 40% contributor and 50% lurkapotomous. I mean lurking is so much fun and requires so little effort. 🤪
I also think many people can be classified into all those categories at once, depending on the subject matter. I may be a creator/contributor for one subject matter, but a lurker for another subject matter because either I don't have a strong opinion or because I don't consider myself a subject matter expert in that area despite my interest in it.
Yes this is true. Which makes the 40000 users work. We’re like 400 creating notes 😂
You might conclude the pattern is the same with literature, art, film, radio, and TV
Does that mean that NPC theory is right , and only 10% are sentient to some extent and not just are decoration/texture to this matrix ? 🤔
