Yep. Same shit with restricted ebooks, if the platform goes down or kicks you out you paid for something you can no longer access. Own the unrestricted file, or own a physical print.
This is why people resort to pirating and purchasing physical media of what they like. Burn this DRM legacy licensing/fee system to the ground. Absolutely absurd for 2023.
Yea the whole situation is so ridiculous it’s laughable. You’d have to be a lawyer to understand these agreements and they’re so long nobody in their right mind is going to bother reading them or complying with them.
i prefer jellyfin but i use plex more. yes it's getting bloated with audio (i don't use) and streaming, free tv etc (i do like). so basically, it comes dow. to plex ux, clients (inc apple tv) and compatibility makes it easier to share my server with friends and family and it gives them the benefits of my plex pass. i agree with techhut who has a great experienced analysis of the two
This is one of the many long things sony does to fuck you over. I have been a victim as well to sony's bullshit changes & quoting policies when a fault happnd on their end. Dealing with sony customer support is like going into battle. The video game industry has changed for the worse & every game is designed to be a struggle from the beginning to the end. I wish I had the money to get a new pc & game on there. Old games w mods way better. I hate sony for all the bs they do. View quoted note →
I had a running joke of owning every media version of Total Recall - vhs, dvd, Blu-ray, laser disc, apple iTunes. I’m sure apple will restrict access to the movie at some point and I’ll have to pay another $19.99 to be able to stream the 8k version.
Wow, another example of legal robbery! It's like taxes. These people should sue. What if Google Books or Amazon Prime or Kindle or Audible or YouTube told you this regarding content you had "purchased" from them? View quoted note →

What’s really sad is Xbox is removing the last optical drive this year, and PlayStation is expected to follow suit.

Time to burn DVD for every console owner.
how so? i assume just like any other drm enabled dvd/bluray etc. the xbox software decodes it and attaches the "ownership" license to your account.

At this point if you are no longer allowed to view what you purchased, the company must reimburse you. It would be the only right thing to do. But, you know they won’t.

Idk how it is now. Back in the day the drives used to require custom firmware in order to read the game.
gotcha. yeah, they'd make it so that wouldn't be an issue, just an extra cost. can't wait to see the hardware mods unlocking the series x system and games. got my ps3 modded to play ripped and burned dv-r games when it came out in taiwan. i miss it 💯 valorant did that thing where they required win 11 tpm 2.0 and secure boot to be enabled which was basically hardware drm. we need more open hardware...and games too damn it
