Using x to discuss bitcoin is a legitimate vulnerability. Musk and/or US gov can easily tweak the algo, shadowban, pit bitcoiners against each other.
It may sound sensationalist, but think about it, it's possibly one of our greatest vulnerabilities.
Jameson Lopp
Looks like X is still a dumpster fire for at least another month.

Given Musks flip floppy nature on Bitcoin, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was already pitting us against each other
we've been saying this for years, ben. how do we get bitcoiners to 1) understand this and 2) care enough to leave X and join nostr? and what can i do to help?
I dont understand how same concerns over Theymos do not exist for Musk/US gov
Nostr needs to become the better product (I know it’s a protocol but you know what I mean). I would love to live in a world where people choose the morally better network even though it might not be better than the morally corrupt one yet. Unfortunately that’s just not reality.
I think nostr will win because better features can be built on it since it’s open and permissionless.
I tried X for a couple weeks recently. What a shit show. It really made me think everyone is retarded and reduced my optimism substantially.
I also noticed your active there
@Derek Ross.
Would you say this is consistent, inconsistent or something else? Genuinely curious.
I'm back there because there's more work to be done. And yes, it's a shit show. I'm in the trenches because I care.
I've rarely ever seen a Bitcoiner interested in freedom tech, the vast majority barely use Bitcoin.
Theymos, Musk, the Fed:
• same principle - different aesthetics
I agree , let’s use an app that one dude created and controls instead
Given the shit bunch of bitcoin devs have been through on x, I'd encourage them to think of it as a vulnerability, who knows 🤷♀️
That's an angle to try I guess. I'd be down to do a space and talk it out sometime if you want.
@Jameson Lopp and I did this a couple years ago. Maybe it's time again?
What do you think the perceived value X users feel they get?
Its an addiction, plain and simple
Agree.
Very good point man
Oof. As a product though, what is the crack?
Make very cool stuff that they can only get here. The same way people adopt P2P Bitcoin. I can't get quality from the fiat market, I use Bitcoin for quality.
The algorithm and the network effects.
I agree with what you say about X being a vulnerability. I was banned by Musk's team within hours of an ADL demand, and have never returned. I must say, though, that Lopp's calling it a "dumpster fire" makes me think something good must be happening there.
Don’t ask them to leave X.
Ask them to also join nostr for bitcoin discussions.
“Pit Bitcoiners against each other.”
Yes, has happened before with BTC vs. BCH. Really, albeit ongoing antagonism, both BTC and BCH are on the same side vs. legally protected central bank fiat.
I think this is one of the most underrated vulnerabilities in Bitcoin. Charismatic billionaires, who are given permission to be a billionaire by the government can easily use their ethos and algos to push quantum FUD, fork wars, anti nostr propaganda and a multitude of other b.s. narratives.
Agree. But network effects are hard to break. I was Nostr only for about a year but recently went back.
Could we lure X users to Nostr by Xostriches posting Nostr screenshots and links as replies on X, rather than the other way around?
I can confirm this
I still dont understand bitcoiners who are not on nostr 😅
Sure. The key is to make content online available here and then share the links and screenshots.
Yet Odell felt compelled to
Go back!
I often think that much of this BIP-110 conversation is already being manipulated by means such as this.
I think you are very correct to point this out.
Bitcoin as a system is very robust and secure. The minds of those who steward it though are easily manipulated via platforms such as x.
Not sensationalist at all. It is THE greatest vulnerability. Network decentralization is pointless if all the participants are jacked into the Matrix (Musk’s or otherwise).
Unfortunately that is the case for every single topic. Thats not an exclusive vulnerabilty of the Bitcoin topic. That said, unfortunately the bulk of the Bitcoin discussion is made there and the dumpster fire drama is not gratuitious. It reflects the high stakes and the importance of the discussion.
