I used to think I was being intellectually balanced by staying engaged with old friend groups I disagreed with. I wanted to avoid being in an echo chamber. But seeing some of them laugh and celebrate today’s shooting has made it clear that they have lost their humanity.

you still see the good parts in them, but they have been captured by a toxic ideology.
Exactly. Skateboarding was the thing that bonded a lot of us early on. Then covid was the great divider. Recently I’ve tried to see past the differences and come together around skateboarding. But that’s really hard for me to do if they think this is funny. It just creates even more division.
Yea I had people in a text thread listing Kirk's quotes about gun ownership as a sort of aged like milk reddit thread. Its sad cause they think they're thinking but are just programmed
I tried reading takes on reddit to get an idea of how that side of the political spectrum was reading the situation but it was just disturbing
Yea I can't even peek anymore. Can't believe I lasted on there as long as I did.
Makes me sad to know people I care about are "informing" themselves there still
