If you are new to nostr, you may be tempted to simply recycle the same approaches and content you’ve used on other social networks, thinking it will just work the same here. I tell you sincerely that it won’t work. Nostr is different and you will get frustrated. My advice for anyone starting out here is to just engage with others as much as possible. Follow everyone under the sun, and then whittle it back as you find the people and content you like to follow. I hope you will stick around. 💜🚀

Great note Fren I'd also add to get weird as you'll be noticed here where as on the dead bird 🐦 app you won't be and here others probably will like the real authentic version of who you are so just be that person.

Comment and boost content you like. Search for, and use, tags. If you get lonely and feel like nobody hears you, summon @Yarnlady 🧶. 😂

Thanks for the advice. However, I am not sure if I want to follow EVERYONE. It sound a little bit risque. So I am here alone in the universe.

I really like it here, it feels like a community but it also feels like everyone talks only about politics and crypto. I was expecting more subjects, I don’t want to be rude but it’s a little bit of an echo chamber. At least people are nice to each other.
Plz don't follow everyone. That's just going to lead to broken WoT as spammers convince some to keep them in their following and lead to more work on relay operators to disable WoT on those allowing spammers into their network. I'd love if there was better list support for all the different nostr clients. It'd be lovely to create curated lists of all kinds of #newbies or even simply following lists or curated interest groups to help with discovery. Along the same lines I wish we used 'Connect' as the verbage for what we consider following. With all the usage of WoT, the connotation to connect aligns better than a follow. In my dream world the follow button would just be to add to your main content list.
I think it’s just a natural result of the types of people who are initially interested in a network like this. There has been a lot of growth over the past 6 months to a year with more musicians and other small/independent artists joining. Searching hashtags can be a good way to find topics you might be interested in. A few people spam hashtags but for the most part they’re useable still here.
Hard disagree. DO follow everyone at first and then scale back and unfollow as needed. WoT doesn’t mean anything if you aren’t following anyone anyway.
Shadow Ban? I thought that sort of thing was impossible with nostr. I thought that is the main reason to switch to nostr. Is that even possible? #asknostr

Yes, you are right. I’m following some hashtags and the content is more diverse now. The first couple of hours I’ve seen everyone reposing the same thing and being angry about different things which is fine, society sucks and we are here because we are tired of how things work but yeah… I think the more diverse the subjects are the better is to attract people from regular social networks. Personally I would love it if everyone would know about Nostr and move here from regular socials. I’m tired of censorship and big corporations controlling our voices.

I have verified this statement. Just be yourself. Some ppl will like you, others won't. And some ppl will think you're retarded. 🤷 Party on Garth. 🥳🤘

I'm actively trying to use this "space" to promote my SciFi writings. be the change you seek, as it were
Nostr is open. Client apps and relays can choose to practice any level of censorship they like within their own app or relay, but that doesn’t affect any other apps or relays. Think of nostr as giving you social redundancy, as your profile, posts, and content are not limited to one app or one relay.

We need to spread the word and get more ppl on here. More ppl = more subjects
I just saw that. I'm fairly new to the whole nostr thing but I can can say I AM LOVING IT! I love it a lot. I currently don't use those two services anyway. I like Primal mostly and use Yakihonne now quite a bit. I need to start reading up some on relays and best practices. Is it good/bad to have too many or too few relays? Is there a way to test for a "good" one? Those sort of questions I'm wondering.
I tend to agree with you. I'm one of the musicians *new* to this space I've been on for about a year. I don't get all the crypto references and memes, but i have connected with some folks - real people who I wouldn't have met otherwise. What topics would you like to see more of?
Well....if you use ditto.pub or poster.place, it fetches TO/FROM many relays for you. If you use many relays on your client, it will use more data/power/battery to download from all those relays and process the data. If you can use a super relay like ditto.pub or poster.place (spam-free ditto), you will be better off especially on mobile. Most relay admins do not do a good job fighting spam for their users like I do so using many relays will make you see all the spam

if you are new to nostr, and bitcoin, and if people _think_ you may have a lot of Bitcoin, and if they may be able to determine where you and your loved ones are, then best to be anonymous, use a pseudonym, else you may become a target

I agree 100%, takes a bit of back and forth with finding who to follow and then who to unfollow…
Ahh ... that would explain why I used Primal on my cell phone a good deal while away from wifi and since I don't pay for unlimited, my data ran out QUICK! LOL ... I'll try switching these around as you suggest and see if that isn't more efficient .
