People dig on Nostr for not being a bigger thing, or being full of Bitcoiners / toxic content / spammers, but it’s literally just cryptographically signed JSON over a relatively simple open protocol. That’s it. Nostr doesn’t care who or what it is — anyone is welcome to build or participate. You can verifiably publish and subscribe to whatever content you want in a manner that fits to your liking despite what one person, organization, or government might say. That’s why I’m here. Onwards.

😆 havent seen this one before. Love it
No, it doesn't care, I agree. It is certainty still a circle jerk ecochamber today. I have been making an effort to use it more personally. I have faith it will grow in adoption at some point. It is a great protocol. I do not think it will grow as fast as Paper Bitcoin. Many do not care about owning their own identities or holding keys. It is what it is. Some day maybe a NOSTR Summer.

Cryptographisch signiertes JSON? #Bitcoin #freedom

Networks are made for, by, and of people. Ignoring that to focus on sandboxing is fine if you don't care about helping people. No one cares that "nostr doesnt care" because protocols aren't sacred. They live and die by their ability to help people. Also, your claims aren't true are they? You cannot "verifiably publish" you can sign and pray it reaches your intended readers. Nor can you "subscribe to whatever content you want" because there is no real discovery solution and you are limited to content in the nostr web. Oh, and maybe it isn't ONE person/org funding this, but it isn't many more, right?
Nobody is ignoring the concept of networks, and nobody is focusing on sandboxing, or claiming to not care about helping people. I’m saying that Nostr as a protocol does not discriminate at the base layer. Content cannot be easily censored if sufficiently decentralized across relays. Users and developers can choose what they want to do and build/pick solutions at will. Not sure what you mean. I can publish events to my outbox relays. The events are signed with my private key and others can verify that I signed them by looking at the signature. Others can subscribe to my outbox relays, download my events, rebroadcast them to other relays. Not sure what you mean by real discovery solution. I discover new profiles and content all the time. Onboarding can be improved for sure. No one has mentioned funding here. Nostr will continue on even without funding, but that’s irrelevant. I’m talking about censorship resistance despite the will of any one person, organization, or government.
Don’t you always have to “pray it reaches your intended readers”? The reader can make sure he reads notes from a known user (in single-relay-networks like X it requires just finding the user handle, in nostr it requires finding the pubkey and retrieve his notes from his outbox relays). The discovery and recommendation of content in the more general sense is more complex.

It is early. Nostr is not ready for normies, and that is fine
Only if the content you want exists. That’s what might be missing for most people.
I think nostr’s association with bitcoin represents fairness to me. I also think the flexible and minimal layout of Damus is unique in a good way. But since people are social to some extent …. if one keeps seeing posts written in a tone/voice that is annoying, it puts a dampener on things. It’s then on the individual to ignore it or to use tools for ignoring it.
hashtags like #artstr and I just found out about this one today #penstr help somewhat. also #artlist idk what helps for those who are not into those hobbies tho.
How does spaces bypass ICANN, you only register your name on chain? Also, why is it capped at 3600 spaces per year? That means most people need to trust someone to give them a subspace.
Spaces Protocol bypasses ICANN because it doesn't use their centralized DNS hierarchy. Instead spaces (names) are anchored directly to Bitcoin's blockchain with minimal on chain footprint. The 3600 annual cap is a protocol design feature to prevent squatting. Something that has plagued other naming systems. Everyone with a subspace has the option to do 100% of their transactions on chain if they wish and be treated the same as a parent space.
