Push notifications on android I think.
Amethyst should consider forking and implementing Primal's UI (I realize that's probably much easier said than done) I want Amethyst's features, but I'm also in love with Primal's UI/UX I love the stats graphs and other features on Amethyst. Also, editing is, unequivocally, a killer feature I think deleting (vs. editing) could be a good compromise though, assuming it would be less complex and have a lower messaging overhead vs. editing Immutabilty is not desirable for social media, IMO
It just has that aesthetic polish like X. I didn't have to do anything to get what feels like full functionality except a one-minute onboarding flow. The integrated wallet also has a great UI/ UX. Someone commented "you're doing pretty good, you've even found your way onto WoT relays", but I didn't even know what that meant (I had to look it up). The bottom line is that it's very polished and user-friendly, and works great out-of-the-box. Once I learned that Amethyst had edits, I downloaded it on Zapstore, put in my public key, and only a couple of my notes showed up. I tried adding relays, and some other things, but it didn't really help. I've been "wasting" too much time on here already, so I said "F-it" and went back to Primal. I'm rooting hard for edits to win though, or at least deletes.
So, your public inbox and outbox relay list only has relays that are not available anymore. Basically only primal's relay is working. That's probably why Amethyst couldn't load much. If you load your npub on Amethyst and open the relay page, you will see that all of the download and upload stats show Zero (nothing is being downloaded or uploaded). You might want to delete and add other ones like nostr.mom and nos.lol. Primal has a caching server. So I think most of your posts are loading only from their central server.
Thank you. I'll do that and give it another try. Also, my pfp was also a default pfp and my @ was a public key. Probably for the same reason.
Yep, without any relay, the app doesn't really know where to get your info from. I am surprised you are even seeing zaps and notifications.
Well, I don't know what the screen means, but none of the red ones are working. Purple pages is not a good relay for inbox and outbox and Misskey.cloud is not returning anything.
Primal has a clean look and feel, sticking to the information you need. It also has nice spacing between posts and different font sizes and boldface accents for each section (username and icons) that make it easy to separate information. The full horizontal use of the screen is also eye-catching, especially when posting media. Screen transitions are also smooth and beautiful.
Perhaps Amethyst could simplify the caption that informs about the automatic translation. It is currently very long and, because it is repeated in all posts, it ends up polluting the visual aspect a bit too. In the case of my language, this caption takes up 2 lines in each post. It could be something like: "(translation icon) English β†’ Portuguese"
Amethyst is a Swiss Army knife, packed with extremely useful features such as relay suggestions, auto-translation, likes and zaps report on each post, graphs, zap splitting in shared posts and much, much more. And, even with all these tools, Amethyst is absurdly fluid, from loading the home screen (splash) to regular navigation. However, the graphical user interface leaves a bit to be desired. In my opinion, the best UIs are from Primal (the most beautiful and intuitive) and FreeFrom (an honorable second place). Primal's integration with the lightning wallet is also worthy of applause. Of course, Primal and FreeFrom do not have the excellent features offered by Amethyst and, in the case of FreeFrom, it still has the problem of the absurdly slow loading screen.
I'm still waiting for primal to support Amber login, I wish they would hurry up so I could try it. image Free from seems to be closed source? I can't find a GitHub link anywhere.
Don't get me wrong, but another suggestion would be to display the likes/zaps report for each post in pop-up format. When this information is displayed next to the post, it gets a bit messy and a separate window would help to segragate the information.
Very well put! This is a shortcoming that even great clients suffer from. This is not only the case with Primal, but also with FreeFrom. Unfortunately, my private key has been quite promiscuous and I run risks like this by putting my key directly there. What I can tell you is, since you have a virgin private key, stay with Amethyst and be happy until Primal becomes compatible with Amber. After all, Amethyst is also excellent and, I can say, superior in most aspects, losing only in the UI and, in some points, in the UX.
Low information density. One thing I like about Amethyst notification screen is that it gives me a full view of how a note is being reacted to. That screen shows very little in the way of total reactions & zaps. It doesn't even show the whole note.
It needs to be simple to be preferred by users. Look at Instagram and other successful social networks that even grandma can use. There are people coming to Nostr every day, testing different clients and sticking to the simplest and most intuitive ones (Primal and FreeFrom). At first, sophistication comes second. I have no doubt that there are people who even give up using Nostr due to its lack of practicality, intuitiveness and beauty. For more information, the more advanced user could tap the post report button and see details about the reactions received. In fact, this post report could be presented, preferably in a pop-up window, as I suggested earlier, so as not to mix with the clean information on the screen.
Amethyst *is* one of the most popular apps with the most users though. That number doesn't even include zap.store, fdroid or people installing with obtainium or straight from GitHub.
Truthfully, I'd rather not have Amethyst become another dumbed down app with a low information density design. If a user doesn't like how it looks or works, there are so many options for them to explore. That's the beauty of Nostr. you can use whatever app you want, and all your data goes with you. Maybe FreeForm and Primal can add more features? But can they do that while maintaining their simplicity and theoretical ease of use? I think Vitor has a pretty good handle on making a great Nostr client. The number of users, the review scores, and the amount of people who post notes saying what a great client speak to this. πŸ€™
